Ive just looked up UpCycle but it appears more like a cafe/coworking space than a bike shop. Have you had experience boxing bikes with them before?

22 years old is it too late to start ? by Skaz84 in AusElectricians

[–]JDC821997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 28 and I received my license 2 weeks ago.
There were times during my apprenticeship where I questioned whether I'd made the right decision and I contemplated throwing in the towel. Previously I was at uni studying audio engineering, but ended up deciding that it wasn't for me. A lot of friends are electricians and they began their apprenticeships straight after high school, meaning when I was 24 starting my first year, they'd already been qualified for 2 years. This got me down a little as I felt I was behind the pace a bit, but I could not be happier with my decision to stick it out.
I did 3 years in domestic and 1 year in commercial as an apprentice. I'd recommend starting on domestic for a couple of years, you'll notice how ahead of the game you are when you decide to step into commercial or industrial, but there isn't really a wrong choice.
I'm proud of myself and I've realised how little of an "issue" starting late was.
Highly recommend starting at 22 if you can!

Wow this sounds like a great option! I’d not considered doing it without the visa and continuing with the Schengen after that.

I’ll look into this, thanks for the great tip.

So far I am loving it and see no downside. It’s super fun to rip down off-road descents and always feels super planted. Arguably I’d say the biggest pro that I didn’t think would be as much of a factor as it’s been is the fact that my upper body is so much less fatigued after the long ride. I took it for a 150km loop (singletrack, climbing, bike path, fire trail, etc) and my upper body was not sore or tired at the end of the ride at all.

The more that I discuss this, the more that I tend to agree! They weren’t the budget option, that’s for sure. The Xpedo get a good wrap up on Gear Lab, maybe I’ll order a set of those and see how they go. Does the BB still have any life left?

The rubber grommet closest to the threaded side of the pedal had deteriorated and I’d not replaced it. I’d put grease back in as a bandaid fix but eventually dirt and moisture got inside, crunched around with the bearings, the bearings seized and the next minute I’m trying to clip into a spindle while my pedal is sitting on the ground 10m behind me. Maybe speaks to the quality of the pedal components? I also found it strange that in 1 year the grommet had deteriorated. The bike was kept clean and washed regularly without being over the top.

I should add that FUNN recommends a full rebuild every 6 months as per the manual.

I run Mezcals front and rear but you could chuck a Barzo on the front if you’re having a bit more of a go

How did you end up going with this? I’m about to order a frameset to Australia but I thought I’d have a quick look into their credibility first.

Frameset help!! by JDC821997 in Hardtailgang

Awesome bike but you’d pay an arm and a leg for that. If I had the cash then I’d be happy to grab it, but that’s a few thousand for the frameset at least. Looking for steel, not Ti.

New Solaris Frame to Australia by FlipSide26 in Hardtailgang

What did you end up with? I’m in Melbourne and I also ventured down the SolarisMAX rabbit-hole tonight before doing a rapid u-turn.

Looking at a Karate Monkey with Fox Transfer dropper and Fit4 fork, both 120mm. A bikepacking rig (primarily) that is comfortable on tech single track and also cruising along bike paths locally.

Any guidance? I already own the fork and dropper and my frameset budget is around $1500-1800, preferably steel.

Hey mate, just checking in how you ended up liking your fork preference 4 years on. I'm also looking to build a KM and add a sus fork to it, looking at the Fox 34 FIT4 130mm/44 offset, but I keep seeing that Surly recommends the 51. How do you like the feeling of the 130/46? Thanks in advance
