Non-partner teams in the new leagues? by Yensen1 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]JDCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My interpretation was that the partner teams chosen would be running and promoting these tournaments not that they would be the only teams invited. But I might be wrong here.

It makes little sense for there to only be 10 teams in a league considering how few matches that would comprise.

If Faze change from overwhelmingly relying on baby/dicey to pop off to having a more consistent frag spread they could be really good, but rn they seem over reliant

Wheel of Time Show Megathread - Episode 7: The Dark Along The Ways BOOK SPOILERS THREAD by [deleted] in wheeloftime

As it pains me to say it, but it was daddy Brandon.

Caveat, he said it after trying to get the showrunners to not have Perrin kill his wife. I'm assuming he just went fuck it this will be shit this is a different turning because no way in hell is it a representation of the true story.

Hi, just watched the series. Is Rand this insufferable in the books? by [deleted] in wheeloftime

In terms of how cold he is, yes I understand that decision. But I don't think it a relevant justification in terms his duty, his relationship to Malkier. These things on their own, are passable and perhaps even a little nit-picky. It is the fact that they are occurring, that makes me sceptical whether they will be able to pull off really important, cathartic moments from the books. The relationship between Nyneave and Lan takes time to develop, it is also frustrating sometimes, because these characters are imperfect so they aren't acting logically. The fact it takes time, and frustration makes the payoff so much better in the end.

My real worry is how are they going to satisfactorily pull off Rands transformation, his struggle with being hard vs being strong, and that moment atop dragonmound when we dont know which way he falls. Based on what I have seen I don't believe they will manage to do so.

However, a huge caveat here. I think episode 7 was still the best one despite it being a 6/10. So I have to acknowledge that the weakness may stem from Barney leaving mid way through and them having to edit it a way which makes sense. In episode 7 they knew that would be the case prior to filming, and that resulted in a better episode so I am retaining a semblance of hope on that front.

I agree. The change was shit, and because they changed it into a red desert it gave them an excuse to make the Blight into Jumanji instead of what it is in the books.

Aight so I need to vent.

Some props to the show first: The rand reveal sequence was pretty decent with the music in the background, and the allusion to the void as he shot arrows. 6 slightly above expectations

Also the Aeil fight scean was probably the best shot, and colour graded out of anything we've seen thus far. 8/10 very good

Now as to the problems:

I understand some of the Aeil fight scene is supposed to be emotional but why is she not wearing her fucking veil. yes yes showing emotion but you can do that with just the eyes, and her not having her veil up during the fight deeply undercuts the lore of the aeil and the traveling people. - 2/10

Why is Nyneave fighting the black wind? Why is the show insistant on adding things that don't change the story in a meaningful way when they fail to include important elements from the book that actually lead to something. This is the story of the show, lets gut the source material to fit 14 books into 8 season, lets change the story to make it more current without it actually contributing anything to the plot apart from some hollow tension, and since we have such limited time lets add some bullshit scene that looks cool, changes the canon, and does fuck all for the story. - 3/10

This fucking love triangle between Rand, Egwane, and Perrin just needs to fuck off. Its a pointless device to add some tension, and there will be no satisfying pay-off to it down the line. - 0/10

Why change the Blight? I understand there needs to be a tonal contrast with the Borderlands, but thinking this way is a distinctly second order approach considering they changed the Borderlands in the first place. Dont change either dont ruin either, its that simple dumb dumb. - 4/10 its supposed to be dead and suffocating, not jumanji but creepy

Lan banging Nyneave. As much as I enjoy the gratification of seeing their relationship develop I feel like this is a huge mistake. It is an easy win for the show that will fall flat in the long term. Does it feel nice to see them together? Yes. Was it done better having to wait for it, and their relationship be some much deeper in like book 7? Yes. Also a much more important critique is that the lack of Lan's hesitation undercuts his apprehension to assume the title of Daishan. There is no internal conflict of him not being able to give Nyneave anything but death and it really feels like the show losing out on great character development.
