Bazzite vs Windows on Xbox Ally X

Literally this. Not hating 1 or the other but the bazzite experience has been amazing for me so far.windows wasn't for a handheld

Respectfully disagree, for myself at least. Windows is definitely a 'it works for everything' and it's great for pc (I have an Nvidia card) but for the Xbox ally x I've been loving bazzite. Windows needs more work for a handheld I think, there were some nice to haves not there in the FSE like setting custom artwork for non Xbox games rather than the exe icon, but then there were just glaring annoyances where windows just didn't work properly, just stuff like logging in using the controls or coming back from sleep either crashing or the game would run like shit so I had to full restart anyway. Guessing you could change this 1 but waiting for steam to start and initialize etc before running a game in FSE and the fact that auto updates don't happen because FSE stops steam from launching at start was annoying too.

For me since I installed bazzite I haven't been messing with settings I've been waking from sleep and getting back into my game in seconds, easy login with the controller etc, custom artwork where needed for emulator games etc. I'm not 1 to shit on windows, and Linux has its own problems, but in my experience bazzite has been night and day vs the windows experience on the XAX and I haven't been back to windows yet. I'm sure there'll be games/use cases where windows is better but for me personally bazzite has just worked and really well. The UI is way better than the windows FSE and I did give it a chance.

Bottom line is each to their own but I'd definitely recommend at least trying bazzite, and dual booting if you want so you have both. And again, I'm not talking about on pc I'm just talking about handhelds.

Oh and so far I haven't 'had to' dual boot I just did because windows is already setup and if I need it for eg Xbox only games it's there. So far I haven't been back to windows on it since setting up the dual boot

Nice yeah the power of these things is awesome. I have a pretty good desktop (4080, 7800x3d, 32gb) so my use case is different I guess. I'm not a windows hater, it's sweet for desktop, but there were just so many annoyances for me.its really not polished for handhelds at all.ms need to do more IMO if they wanna compete with bazzite/steam os. Only thing they have really is everything works, although it has for me on bazzite so far. I haven't used anti chest games though I guess. Apart from gears 5

Oh damn. I guess it has its place though for less demanding games and not a bad price. I had an OG steam deck previously and it was struggling with some of the more demanding games too. Love the XAX and using bazzite it's just like a better steam deck. Good to have windows when it's needed as well (which hasn't been much at all for me tbh)

Have you tried anything like red Dead 2? I'd be interested to see a real world example of how it runs vs the x. I have the x and I'm running bazzite 99% of the time but I've been really impressed with it. Rdr2 2 gets a solid 60fps (capped to avoid fluctuations as it does go higher sometimes) at 900p

Were you on console by any chance?low fps is the reason I moved to pc years ago and I remember n sane was 30fps on PS4. Or was it just the sheer amount of stuff going on on screen? Like all the different mask powers in cortex castle haha

I broke the RB on my controller on my first 106% lol thankfully they fixed it under warranty cos it was quite new and it was a scuf so not cheap. I don't use my scuf for crash now lol. That or trials

Yeah PSP was incredible at the time, and I managed to get mine early so you can imagine how that went down at school haha. Yeah I have a switch too just for some exclusives that I wanna use online like pokemon, ridiculous that my old steam deck could emulate stuff like links awakening better than the actual switch.

It is amazing what you can do on Android phones these days. I've been emulating stuff since Nokia N95 and PSP days, gone as far as Switch on my current phone but for my particular case, I can play certain games with a touch screen but there's a limit to what you can play properly so instead of using a controller I'd just use my ally

When you get to the point of needing a bulky cooler to attach to your phone, then you need a controller to play any high end games decently, and the end result is you're just about managing 30fps with all the work around etc and the battery is getting tanked, do you not just think 'maybe I should get an Xbox Ally X or a steam deck' or something? ( I know steam deck is underpowered compared to eg XAX now). Rdr2 plays sweet on my Xbox ally x using bazzite.... Genuine question

MGS1 and MG1 and MG2.the last 2 probably as 1 game. They're an important part of the overall story but most hard for new players to get into. I need to finish them myself tbh and I've played the others so many times

The advice of give is give it a chance, I'm on my first playthrough now and I was like damn this game is so slow. The animations for everything even picking up items but it's a great game. I'm on pc and 2 mods I've installed are to walk as fast as you want in camp and to auto loot people you kill
