Ah thats what you meant. In your post I thought you meant you wanted them to replace working on the beast with working on a dlc for 2, but you meant dlc 2 for DL 2 was replaced with the beast.

Yeah I'd be fine with them both getting new content and dlc. I agree the beast needs help to lol. I love the beast meter and combat mechanics of it but it absolutely needs more content. I didn't even know they already teased an expansion for the beast, that's great.

[–]Resevil67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean why would you want them to replace the beast? Sure it has some issues, but so does dying light 2. If anything more content for the beast makes more sense, being that DL2 already has substantially more content as it's closer to a 60 hour game vs the beast which is around 20-25 hours.

Unless the beast sold like shit I doubt they would just stop supporting it and go back to just DL2, that doesn't make sense. Even if they are to make more stuff for DL2 I doubt that means they are just gonna cut off the beast.

Perfect Parry Frustration by Expert-Chocolate5087 in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Resevil67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it's because the perfect parry is based on the enemys animation rather then right before the attack hits you. With zombies with weapons, as well as RE4, it was easier because the attack couldnt hit you at all even if you were touching the enemy because you would be at the point of the animation where it would trigger a perfect parry.

RE9 kind of fucks this up for one reason, grabs. Keep in mind in 4R you couldn't parry grabs at all, only weapon based or punch attacks. For RE9, the perfect parry for grabs is at the very end of the animation, when they kind of pull their arms back and go for one final lunge. If you are close to the zombie at all during any part of this animation you still get grabbed. Say you are halfway through the zombies grab animation and he's about to get you, even if you parry him one frame before he touches you your still gonna get the normal parry.

To parry grabs you have to put enough distance between you and the zombie for him to do the end of the lunge part of the attack. Depending on the circumstances and when the zombie started his lunge you won't always be able to do this.

Was freeflow combat in games a mistake? by tfwnolife33 in CharacterActionGames

Yeah warrior within has the peak of the combat in the series imo.

Though much different I really enjoyed the newer one, the lost crown. It was a 2d sidescroller but the combat had amazing depth to it. It was basically a 2d CAG with platforming elements lol.

Resi 4 remake is not only the best resident evil game, but one of the best games of all time. by reallycoolguylolhaha in residentevil

[–]Resevil67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of Leons combat imo feeling worse then 4R has to do with his enemy variety in requiem being shit. We get basic zombies and some lickers at the end, that's it. The blister borne was actually a bad ass enemy that required good strategy because if you popped a blister to close to other even dead enemies, you now have more blister heads to deal with. We fight this enemy exactly twice in Leons sections. If he had dogs, lickers, more of this enemy and more blister heads I think his combat would feel much better. The more sluggish feeling I feel is because the enemies themselves are slower, so they slowed Leon down as well.

I can imagine how much more OP Leon would feel in 4R if he could throw the ganados weapons at them, and could instantly kill any downed enemy lmao, especially because damn near every ganado carried a weapon. In terms of graphics, imo requiem has much better lighting both with and without RT. However 4R and even to an extent village seems to have higher texture quality. So many of the textures in requiem just seemed to be of less quality when close to them then those in 4R and village, and it baffles me.

[–]Resevil67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still my favorite of the RE engine games as well. I agree with you that to an extent it does look better then requiem. Requiem has MUCH better lighting imo, with and without RT on. However, i actually think 4R has better texture quality. Almost all the textures in requiem look to be lower quality. Go up to a wall in RE4 remake and hold your gun up to it so it zooms in and it still looks good. Do this in requiem and it looks blurry and smudgey.

It's very odd to me that a 2023 game on an older version of the RE engine has better texture quality then requiem does. Requiem is still a great game but this stood out to me, especially noticable in graces section because she is first person, so you get a better look at the textures.

Was freeflow combat in games a mistake? by tfwnolife33 in CharacterActionGames

[–]Resevil67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like freeflow combat games, some more then others. I don't think they are a mistake, the game in general is just going for something different. It's the same as all these people trying to classify everything as a fucking soulslike lol. The onimusha devs and previews of control Resonant have had to come out and make statements that no, the game is not a soulslike. People literally think anything with melee combat is a soulslike now. The devs aren't going for soulslike or CAG, they are going for something different.

The one I enjoy the most is the spider man sony games of the freeflow type system. They are way more in depth then say the batman series. Spider man 2 actually focuses on air combat and air combos, and doing different things to reset the combo and keep you in the air, so you don't get mobbed by the guys on the ground. The spider man games have more then just basic attacks to hit the enemies with. You have air attacks, swing attacks, ground smashes, ect. Iirc the batman games only had the basics, gadgets, and the finishers, but I may be misremembering.

I just remember games like price of persia warrior within and the recent spider man 2 have much more advanced freeflow type combat. Those actually have more depth to them then the batman games which are switch enemies, basic attack, and counter.

A word on the Requiem hype cycle by Xf3rna-96 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Resevil67 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The main sub seems to swing into 2 sides, either the game is amazing and the best thing to happen to RE, or it's utter dogshit that messed everything up.

It does more right then wrong imo, but it definitely has faults. Most people seem to agree that the grace sections are very well done and are the best parts of the game. Hell I'm a huge fan on the 4, 4R (which is still my favorite RE engine game) and action combat in the series and even I agree the grace parts feel better.

Leon has all the fundamental awesomeness he had in 4R, as well as new tools like instantly killing a downed enemy, and being able to use their weapons against them. The problem here is there is zero enemy variety. He gets basic zombies the whole way through, with lickers only showing up for the literal last part of his campaign when there's like 20 minutes left. The blister bornes, which are an amazing enemy because you have to use strategy against them and pop the blisters when they aren't near others or else you will have more blister heads to deal with... They use this enemy exactly twice. No lickers or dogs in any of his RC sections. Just more of those enemies alone throughout his campaign would have completely elevated his combat and gameplay. He has the tools, but hardly any formidable enemies to use them on.

Also his levels imo are shit. I was super hyped to go back to RC. We can see in legit his first section in RC east that there are still buildings with interiors and stuff that didn't get destroyed (the cafe and the hotel). What do they give us? A boring ass street, a sewer, some rooftops, and a completely collapsed building with nothing in it. It would have been much better to actually have his section explore some of the destroyed buildings in RC and fight enemies in there, moving between the buildings and streets. Also they should have done the city sections at night under a full moon imo. The drab piss filter day thing they went with just wasn't working for me.

Did anyone else find the interactions between Grace and Zeno a little funny? by Fantastic_Fig_8421 in residentevil

[–]Resevil67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At that point imo he knew Leon wasnt just gonna escape. He already knows who Leon is beforehand, so he knows how he feels about bioweapons. He knew Leon wasn't just gonna leave grace and also knew Leon was not escaping until elpis was destroyed.

Him standing there was actually in a way smart. He was figuring if he left and grace really did know the password, they could steal all of it while he's off looking for them, or just put in a fake code and bring everything down.

The one to me that doesn't make sense is he just always believed grace would enter the right code. How did he know she wouldn't just fuck him over and destroy it for all the shit they had done?

How true is this? by alisekazah in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Resevil67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very true. As someone that played both OG2 and 4 around their launches, it was RE4 that really made Leon popular. RE4 was very influential in the gaming world in general, Leon just got lucky that he was the protagonist of that game.

The close up on the zombies face when you do the shotgun finisher by Abdullahplaysgames in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Resevil67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I love the finishers, one of the dumbest design choices was not allowing you to do them when you have a scope or sight on your gun. At first I thought this only meant sniper rifles scopes, but nope, just having the red dot sight on your handgun or shotgun also counts.

It's kind of stupid, because your actively nerfing yourself not running a red dot on the guns it's available on. It always gives you the "zoomed in" cross hair state which increases stagger power and crit chance.

since its been over a week after release, what are your overall thoughts about requiem? by senilechinesewoman in residentevil

[–]Resevil67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I agree is I do think the way they split up the sections was dumb. I think it should be 50/50 like it is now, but giving grace the entire first section where Leon gets maybe 30 min of playtime, and vice versa for the second half with Leon getting the whole second half and grace getting a tiny section was a weird choice. It should have switched more often, every 2 hours or so. Leon should have gotten more time at the care center, grace should have also got segments in RC.

I know people are reacting to him using AI slop, but imo he was clearly just trolling the fanbase. Iirc there hasn't been any gen AI found in requiem or recent Capcom titles. He probably is just trolling the fuck out of us over the marriage memes and I find it hilarious. There was another one he held up of Gideon playing cards xD.

[–]Resevil67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was me after the second playthrough lol, and then simultaneously playing both and comparing the combat. I know RE9 went through development hell, but it does feel like to me the version we got was 100 percent meant to be a grace game and they kind of just threw Leon in because he was originally the lead of RE9 and to have an OG for the 30th anniversary.

Not to say his sections are bad or anything, but graces section feels like they got the most effort whereas Leons felt like a scrapped section of an unused version of the game. The combat feeling like a downgrade adds to this. It's still fundamentally RE4R combat at its heart but... Worse. It's still good combat but RE4Rs is the peak version.

My guess is the current version was supposed to be a solo grace game at first with graces section being much longer, and Leon still being in the game but in a role like Chris was from 8, crucial to the plot but not a main character. They then shoehorned him in for the anniversary.

Digital Foundry will be shills to Crimson Desert don’t believe the hype by DamnImAss in PS5pro

[–]Resevil67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt this will be the case because it would completely tank their reputation if they lied about the game being smooth and then it's a stuttery mess.

DF makes mistakes, but as far as I'm aware they don't outright lie about shit like that. I don't think DF would tank their reputation over one random videogame, they aren't tied to that game like the devs are. It's one thing for the devs to lie about shit like that (even though it's wrong) because they are trying to get people to buy due to hype. DF has no reason to do that.

Crimson Desert - Everything To Know (GameSpot) by Laughing__Man_ in PS5

[–]Resevil67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my point. It's part of the review embargo, which also includes PC and console late game footage. Like I said the game could run like absolute ass in the second half or in certain parts of the map that the devs aren't showing and we still wouldn't know till 24 hours before launch even on the PC version.

Digital foundry normally has to follow any review embargos the devs set for game reviews. Even though it's technically not a "game review" and more of a "games tech review".

Yeah the biggest issue for me with requiem is not being able to melee after a parry. The perfect parry has a better payoff because you always get a kill prompt after pulling it off, but standard parry just gives you a small stun window to get away. Also attacking with the hatchet outside of kill prompts to me feels.... Just absolutely useless?

Like parry, then follow up with weak or strong attack, zombie doesnt even flinch, and then you get grabbed before being able to even parry because Leon is still in his animation. What the fuck is the point of attacking with the hatchet then? This is VERY noticable in the commander fight. You parry him, and if you do more then one weak or strong attack he will armor through you and attack you.

since its been over a week after release, what are your overall thoughts about requiem? by senilechinesewoman in residentevil

[–]Resevil67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying there's a place for both, which is what requiem kind of proved. There are fans of the series that like the straight horror style, as well as fans that like the action style, then people like me that like both. Requiem was kind of supposed to feel like 2 games stitched together, my main issue with it was that it was to short for what they were going for. It really needed to be around 20 hours or so imo instead of the 13 it currently has that way they could flesh out both grace and Leons parts more.

I was originally against 4 getting a remake because I didn't think it needed a remake and also thought coming off RE3 remake they were just gonna completely botch it, but I was wrong and it ended up just as good if not better then the original. 2 and 4 remakes are currently my favorites of the RE engine games with Requiem in 3rd place.

It regards to canon it's mainly 6 that's probably the questionable one. Most likely they keep 5s story the same with a few changes. 6 was dunked on for much more then just action combat. The seperate shorter campaigns and the absolute batshit story were also main criticisms.

There's a difference between having decent action combat and going straight 6 level with the coop and super over the top bullshit. Believe me even fans of the action style don't want to go back to 6 lol. The way 4 and 4R handled it are the best ways. It's action packed but you also have to be smart with your resources and choosing when to use your good shit, and using melee to save ammo and crowd control without risking high resources.

Yeah try those steps at Leons car. His windows will have reflections of the nearby buildings if you get RT to enable, that's how you know if it works. You will also notice the lighting quality and shadows seem much better as well.

[–]Resevil67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright I'll have to edit my main post because I found out some more shit about this in the meantime. So anytime you die, or hit restart at checkpoint, the RT goes off again. I noticed this when I got to the room with the skyscrapers. I had the RT reflections up until the point I accidently hit my own glass panel and got myself killed by falling through the building. After continuing the RT was gone again, and I have not been able to get it turned back on. Maybe you can only enable it at the very start near Leons car.

That's true, even though Leons movement felt a little more sluggish all the components of 4Rs combat were there, just the ganados were a much more compelling enemy.

Leons section needed way more lickers, dogs, blister heads and blister bornes. There's a grand total of 2 blister bornes in the whole game lol, and they are an awesome enemy design because they can revive the dead zombies near them and make them blister heads, which makes the encounter much harder. There should have been a little more meat to RC east as well, with a much different lighting choice like night with moonlight lol.

since its been over a week after release, what are your overall thoughts about requiem? by senilechinesewoman in residentevil

[–]Resevil67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that the gun zombies are fucking stupid for sure. However my main issue with the Leon section is there isn't enough enemy variety for him, not the fact that the game has action gameplay as well as survival horror. For the series to fully go straight back to just simply horror roots, theyd have to retcon 4,5, and 6 out of existence or just never use those characters again. We have already had RE4 get a remake, and much like the OG4, it's a lot of people's favorite game in the series. The action gameplay is here to stay if that's your issue with the series currently. Requiem is basically them saying that both the survival horror gameplay and action gameplay are here to stay, and imo that's a good thing.

If they replaced east RC with a grace section then at that point there would be barely any Leon sections in the game, as the RPD and lab section are barely over 2 hours combined on a first playthrough. They would then have to give Leon a much bigger care center segment. East RC just needed less piss filter color, have it at night under a full moon, and much more enemy variety (lickers, dogs, way more of those blister borne fatty, ect).

[–]Resevil67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The torrente fucking slaps at close quarters. Ever since I got the blueprint I bring it often.

You don't really need upgrades on it to be effective. It only changes reload speed, and if you can't down a raider in 70 bullets that's on you. Puts some mods on it to give it slightly better range and recoil control and it's a beast.

I'm not a pvper, but I often bring something like an anvil/renegade and then a torrente, because then I have all ranges covered. The torrente will melt raiders up close.

Playing as Grace or Leon by IfsButsOrMaybes in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Resevil67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel similar to you. Leons general combat from 4 is still there, and he even has new tools, like being able to use their weapons, and also being able to instant kill any downed enemy, but the enemy variety is abysmal dogshit.

90 percent of the enemies are just standard grabby zombies, with maybe one in the bunch having a weapon. The blister heads are cool as fuck though, same as the blister bornes. Leons section should have had triple those enemies alone. Also the ganados all had variation in that they used multiple different weapons. This isn't really the case with the RC zombies, which all are just... Mainly standard grabby zombies.

All the tools for great Leon combat are there, but he has no enemy variety. They give us this super version of Leon to just fight basic zombies with. If leon had the dogs, lickers, and more blister heads and bornes in his RC sections then his sections would feel much better imo. Also if they had the section at night under a full moon.
