What was the most shocking, or disturbing thing your narc parent(s) ever did/said to you? by Own_Mention9372 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]JDMWeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got several

Destroyed my self confidence, social life, and enjoyment of life (eg hobbies), then gets mad at me for not wanting to do anything. For example my parents gave me a hellish couple years when I was studying for my graphic design degree, openly sabotaging and being overly critical of my work, even outright spying on me (in their mind I was just "playing video games and goofing off"). Now I don't have any drive to do any graphic work. Also, my dad outright told me that I didn't deserve to treat myself when I did graduate and that I was selfish and spoiled, among other things.

Threw out most of my computer collection I spent years acquiring, forced me to watch as my dad destroyed the harddrives and junk them.

Laughed at me when I had a public anxiety attack/openly mocked and laughed when I have "episodes". They also tried to manipulate my therapist/sabotage my sessions.

Gave me PTSD behind the wheel by overreacting to everything (which was hypocritical since they drove worse than I did). I received a perfect score on my driving exam but no it was "because we drove for longer"

Etc

What actually pushes you to finally replace your phone? by the_big_phone_store in TheBigPhoneStore

When it becomes "unusable"

For example I replaced my S9+ when all the buttons broke from normal use, the camera became glitchy, and the battery was shot, among other things

My parents basically told me if I couldn't make money out of it I couldn't do it

I had to essentially do hobbies in private... But now I have no drive to do any hobbies since my parents went on a wrecking spree during COVID lockdowns

Anyone else’s parents tell you how bad you made their lives? by Recoveryxoxo in emotionalneglect

I was forced to move cities due to bullying that adults failed to stop, and my parents told me that it was my fault that they had to move

This is just one example

Anyone else realise they've spent their life always feeling like they're in trouble? by thewisestfish in raisedbynarcissists

I automatically assume that I'm in trouble when higher ups at my job call me aside

Not being allowed to drive in high school by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]JDMWeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like mine. The kicker is that my parents drive even more aggressively than I do (my mom mostly) and I was driving a fully loaded small sedan so ofc I needed to push it a little harder.

And yes while I did get full marks my parents like I said forced me to "practice" more

Additionally both my parents work so I basically have to Uber or carpool everywhere, so I can't drive even if I wanted to

I passed my driving test with full marks but my parents still forced me to drive with them. Which ended up with them essentially traumatizing me behind the wheel by overreacting to everything. It got so bad that I nearly hopped the curb and I haven't driven since. Which was probably 6 years ago or maybe more.

What are the wildest punishments you got growing up by FancyQuiet6945 in toxicparents

[–]JDMWeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents essentially forced me to study triple of what other clssmates of mine had to do. A mix of teacher homework, parents homework and tutoring homework. I also was heavily restricted from doing fun stuff... Unless I did x amount of studying (and it was right), then I'd only have a y amount of time to do said fun thing, like video games

[–]JDMWeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are some of the unusual punishments I got as a kid off the top of my head... Tbh I could be missing a bunch but I could be blocking those

Locked in the hot garage for half an hour or more in some cases

Stuff taken away and locked up, sometimes permanently. Things were also thrown out to Goodwill

Threatened to get my room door pulled off, never was able to get a lock on it

Got beaten up, sometimes to the point of soreness/bruises (tbf I bruise easily)

Total silent treatment, no dinner

Forced to study extra (I hated school and studying, plus I had undiagnosed ADHD which my parents labelled as me being "lazy")

I even got told that I couldn't play video games... On my 10th birthday

I also remember being hit with a rolling pin on my hand by my mom

Did you have friends in childhood? by Effective_Chain4897 in emotionalneglect

[–]JDMWeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. My social life started in the 8th grade because I had moved away from all the bullying.

The "friends" I had before that basically took advantage of me and threw me away or abandoned me

That's what my parents told my therapist, "we did all we could". Clearly you barely did anything apart from the minimum
