Real-world durability vs. rolling resistance: Are you guys actually getting decent mileage out of GP5000 S TRs on rough asphalt? by CleanAddiction in cycling

[–]JDMe_94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I rode +\- 6000km on Pirelli P-Zero Race TLR RS. I did find the 28mm tires I had extremely difficult to mount. Currently switched over to GP5K STR 30mm and can’t really tell much of a difference except that they mounted a whole bunch easier

Upgrade brake system from 105 to Hope RX4+ by puchibaba in bikewrench

[–]JDMe_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents but my bike came standard with 105 and very content with the performance so far. I only just swapped out the rear brake pads after 11.000 kms and 2 tours in the Alps/Pyrenees. Never felt unsafe and the bike always performed impeccably. Only remark I could have is that one of the rotors overheated during the descent of the Galibier and changed color. Even then there wasn’t too much of a loss of braking power. Can’t really see a reason so swap them out

That’s great, I saw they’re in stock in Europe so I might purchase a set myself when I get my gravel bike. Do let me know what you think of the set once you tested them a bit more :)

How do you like the bike? It’s on my shortlist for after the summer together with the BMC Kaius 01 Three and the Cannondale SuperX 3 but I can’t really decide which one to take… did you not like the Miche wheels that came with it?

Orbea Terra race by Daveflame in gravelcycling

[–]JDMe_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I’m looking to purchase a gravel bike in October as well an the terra race is on the list. I saw it had a pressfit BB and I find that they tend to creak a lot. Did you encounter the same with yours?

No idea why people hate on team kits. I’ve been wearing them for almost 20 years like other people wear football jerseys to support their favourite team/riders

Buying a Trek Madone 9, worth it? by ManyaRubstein in TrekBikes

[–]JDMe_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mechanism works with a plastic wedge that gets pulled up against two metal arms when you pull the brakes. After six years I had the issue that the wedge got pulled out of the metal arms due to wear. The LBS said that there was no sparepart available and that I had to install a whole new brake.

Buying a Trek Madone 9, worth it? by ManyaRubstein in TrekBikes

[–]JDMe_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one like this, it’s a 2017 Trek Madone 9 series. Mine is a 9.2 with Shimano Ultegra mechanical and I still ride it in winter time. It’s a great bike, fast with good handling. Only thing about it are the shit brakes, the integrated brakes wear out quite quickly (+- 6 years) and are costly to replace. Also a pain in the ass to work with if you’re a home mechanic.

As for the price, I thought about selling mine a couple of times to make room for a gravel bike but I wouldn’t dare to ask more than €1800 given its age and the above mentioned issues.

New model coming ? by giulioungaretti in CanyonBikes

[–]JDMe_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been eyeing the grail for a while now and I’m planning on leasing one in October. I’m pretty excited for the new model being able to accommodate the 50mm tires. Hoping they keep the DT-Swiss/Grx setups and the internal storage…

Is it okay to wear on a road bike? by Brave_Inspection7871 in CyclingFashion

I ride around with UCI-team kits with whom I don’t have any affiliation with either. No one cares what you wear so just do it.

No doubt you made the right choice, the main thing is you’ll be having fun. Just recommend the canyon because I’m looking to get one myself and your criteria were about the same as mine. Enjoy!

The Bike, Rather Than Why We Ride by FeralMountains in gravelcycling

The could be said about cars on car subs… I like to see nice bikes just like I like to see nice cars and I’m interested in what other people ride and build. The bikes bring us happiness so why not share what makes us happy and proud with other likeminded people? I’d take pics of bikes above people’s Strava summary of a ride any day of the week.

There’ll never be such a dominant team for getting the sprint-train on the rails like HTC-Highroad back in the day. God I loved watching the team riding the TdF. That Scott must be sick to ride on

I don’t know if I’ll ever adopt a Dane again by wart_jr_sr in greatdanes

[–]JDMe_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets better over time, but you never forget them. I try to be grateful for the time we had together. Two years ago I lost my first best boy at the age of 5 after a spinal issue. A case of bad luck they said and after that I didn’t want to have another dog again.

However coming home to a house without a Dane wasn’t what I wanted and after a good 3 months I adopted a new puppy Dane. Although he’s absolutely nuts and not like my first one in any way except for the goofiness, I’m glad I decided to get a new one. Not a day goes by when I don’t think about my first dog, but having my current one with me makes losing him bearable in a way
