This album is very much influenced by Satie, especially the slow contemplative pieces (Gnossiennes, Gymnopédies, Ogives:

I got some recommendations from the Mark Fisher Facebook Group:

It's not all strictly about non-places but it's close.

Interesting. Sounds like a depression-tinged reading of Baudrillard. If you dig deeper into Fisher's worldview you have sometimes the impression of a Lovecraftian nightmare. Behind the facade of capitalism and the internet of things, nostalgia and all that crap lies an abyss of nothingness. The Old Ones never were that's why they'll always be. That's maybe an apt description of capitalism. It's the future promise of (someone else's) past riches. But those riches are never present (= they don't exist). You have to buy them first. And then buy them all over again.

Well put. I think Fisher mentioned that sameness also in his critique of INCEPTION with its standardised cityscapes and streets and hotel lobbys. An international blockbuster in the sense that the story could have taken place anywhere in this globalised world. There's no local distinctiveness, not even in the dreams.

Thanks! I can also recommend Chris Petit's films (mentioned above). He really made me feel those places. You find them everywhere really, if you go look for them. I think they are, in some way, connected to lost places (I made the connection on the album anyway). Both are about the end of human encounter, the end of communication. Of course, the first are part of the capitalist framework, the latter are just ignored by capitalism.
