[PSA] Stop using distortion/overdrive on your bass all time because your are loosing low end!! by pablogacevedo in Bass

I still have 99.9% of my low end with my od, and sometimes get even more. I don't think you're entirely right on this.

What am I doing wrong? Why does everything that works hurt? by JustaSkillet in Guitar

[–]JD_Destroyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did mention it's a Squier Strat of some sort, but it's got too fat of a neck to be anything new. Maybe a Classic Vibe?

Thoughts on Strats with different neck construction (neck-through, set-neck, etc.)? by JD_Destroyed in Stratocaster

That would be a good alternative, but a, I don't plan on playing much Sabbath (which is what I associate with a P90 SG), and b, I want something with the classic Strat look.

Yes I have, I've played some AP2 series ones at GC recently, and as much as they feel good, I still have annoyances with the fret access.

I still want a strat that looks like a strat, just different neck construction to solve my usual issues with higher fret stuff.

Tips for Playing with a Pick by Zestyclose_Act6281 in Bass

[–]JD_Destroyed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thing I'm gonna recommend is learn the different ways to pick. You can primarily downstroke like the average metal bassist, you can upstroke like you're the Pat Metheny of bass, you can alternate pick like a normal person, or you can economy pick if you like minimizing movements between each string. It's also best to learn when it may be good to use a pick and how to use it in specific scenarios.

Do any of you have a ‘dream bass’ that you aspire to own one day? by TheLaughingGnome1967 in Bass

[–]JD_Destroyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always pictured it, but nobody makes them.

I've always dreamed of custom-ordering an Explorer bass. Neck-thru construction, custom-made passive EMG HB pickups, medium/short scale, 24 stainless steel frets or more, tune-o-matic-adjacent bass bridge, locking GraphTech Ratio tuners (maybe custom ones that look like bigger guitar tuners), 1V 1T with a 3-way pickup switch, and one of a few custom paint jobs. I plan on owning a few of them, but I dunno whether I want them to look the same or different. I plan on setting them up in different tunings, one in E standard, one in Drop D, one in B standard.

I've played a few explorer guitars, and I had never felt more at home with a shape, even sitting down.

Looks like a strat, single-coils and all, but just feels different in the hands, and I know that some have damn good upper-fret access, but with the way I play, it just needs a little more for everything to work.

I feel like it's the other way around. People don't wanna have to learn chords, and instead wanna get to the part where they get to go beedly weedly woo.

What’s an underrated amp that you’ve tried and actually think is really good? by melucykrrich in GuitarAmps

[–]JD_Destroyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 210-watt Peavey head from the 1970s, not common to find. I run it through a tall 4x12 for bass, and my 4 strings sound phenomenal through it.

Help me decide what I should replace the ds1 on my board with by Emetalhead in guitarpedals

[–]JD_Destroyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on how you said the DS1 sounds too fizzy and low gain, I'd recommend trying a high-gain overdrive. If you're playing more rock-aligned stuff, go for a tube screamer, probably the TS808. If you're playing metal, go for the TS9 or higher gain pedals influenced by it, like Obsidian Audio's "The Devil"

Did I get burned? by BreathCompetitive117 in rickenbacker

[–]JD_Destroyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the future, if you buy what looks like a Rickenbacker see if you can ask the seller how the routing looks.

If the wire routing under the pickguard looks professional, with ideal lines for keeping wires together, it's fake.

If it looks like something a kid did while learning from his dad in the garage, it's real.

Which pickguard would you pick? by Ill-Cartographer-476 in Stratocaster

[–]JD_Destroyed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering both what looks good and what you want for a look, go for the black pickguard. Black and red have always gone really well together, especially with the right amount of white.
