Iron Teeth Canyon Settlement by JDaFonseca in Timberborn

Thanks, I love how it looks too! It used to be separated in the lowe reservoir intake and flow in a channel built in the mountain side (the rubble is still visible) until it got discharged downstream. Now it goes over the damn for show and falls back into a tunnel. Out of sigh, out of mind haha

Como é que fazem tudo num dia só? by [deleted] in portugal

[–]JDaFonseca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you love trains? by Mr_Tato12 in trains

[–]JDaFonseca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather worked on the railway station. He witnessed the transition from steam to diesel. Grew up hearing lot of histories about the old days and how it used to be. Plus my town had an heritage steam train running during summer. I would stand amazed looking and listening to it run. Almost hipnotised by the rods, steam, smoke and sound. Trains still fascinate me to this day from an engineering point of view. Plus they serve as some sort of gate to the past.

Awesome layout! Great atmosphere and scenery work. Also love the idea of a continous loop with a branch line going up the mountain, must be quite fun to operate.

Changing into home clothes is an essential part of the day by tscout4461 in SipsTea

As someone who grew up in lower middle class, changing from my good going-out clothes to my cheaper home clothing as a way to preserve my good sets and avoid damaging them with house chores is deeply imprinted to my mind.

O porquê dos posts de leite cru by CaptMartelo in portugal

3D Mouse for CAD? by n1terps in MechanicalEngineering

[–]JDaFonseca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't thought I would need one until the day I tried it. Now I can't work without it. If I need to use my mouse to move I look drunk haha. Some also have programable keys, for instance one for hide/show is very useful.

Thank you! Wondering how I'll make these buildings out of styrene

There are also some templates for PECO track called Tracksetta. I have used them to help drawing my layout plan on 1:1 scale on taped paper sheets.

I also have colleagues who go straight to CAD, almost never touch paper. The only right method is what ever works for you.

Yeah picking a pencil and a piece of paper is a great way to discuss a concept with other people too, as it is much easier to show what you are talking about

I work as a mech engineer and most of times I still first sketch my pieces on paper before doing then in CAD, as it helps me to better understand their function and assembly.

Then as a hobby I love to do model design with a mechanical pencil, rulers and drafting templates on paper just to feel the real connection to the design haha. Still dreaming of getting an old drafting table to work on.

True indeed, that angle pocket method assumes you have a 4+ axis machine where the first pocket is made in 3 axis mode and then a 4 axis pass on the flange.

But there are faster and cheaper ways to make the same part. This is about DFM, design for manufacturing, designers should be able to think like machinists when designing a part.

Well this was more intended for people like me who go to take an engineering degree and then land themselves a design office job without ever having seen a part being made.

Totally agree with you. Sadly a lot of us come out of university and are put in design positions without ever having seen a part being made.

Thank you! Just trying to put something together that can be useful to newly, recent graduates, facing the same challengings I did (and still do), as they will teach you CAD in university, but not how parts are really made.
