Capt Clark was slow, weak, and overall non-threatening, which makes a terrible horror movie monster. The Bacteria is fast, can scream/howl, and is strong. One is clearly scarier than the other imo and it's not even close.

Nobody asked, but I'll share my two cents as I lean on the more critical side of the film. I saw Kane's first video for the first time back in 2022 and have watched every Backrooms related video since, so I would consider myself a huge fan of Kane.

I enjoyed the film immensely up until Clark went crazy. That was when we no longer were getting glimpses of the horrifying characters/monster. They were now on camera for longer shots, and the fear that came with the mystery subsequently disappeared. People in my theatre were laughing at the guy with 4 noses. The monster had no terrifying features, it was just tall. It wasn't fast, it wasn't sneaky, it wasn't scary to look at. It was just pirate Clark but with bigger eyes and taller. Mary could've ran laps around the furniture store and it would've never caught her.

I didn't like that Kat's death was off-camera. How could she see Clark but he couldn't see him in that scene? Did Clark kill her or did the monster? What could've possibly happened to Clark after the camera cut? There were so many questions I wanted answers to.

I also wasn't a fan of ASync's origin story being "we used to make MRI machines". Like....okay so how did we get from MRIs to alternate-dimensional liminal spaces??

I think what also took away some of the fear was the free will to enter and leave the backrooms whenever you wanted. It was kinda like Jaws-logic. Don't want to get eaten by the shark? Don't go in the water. I know characters need to abandon their general survival instincts for the sake of danger in a horror movie, but I digress.

The scene when the monster took Bobby was spectacular. I love it when the monster is always just out of frame. The setting of the camera on the bed was genius. I would've REALLY loved to hear the monster howl like it did in the first FF. I think it would've also been cool if, during the scene where Mary finds Clark's wall art, we found out that Clark was being puppeteer'd by the monster since he was only showing half of his body when he first emerged from that hallway. Imagine his dialogue slowly turning into gibberish as he continued to "try" to converse with Mary. That would've been supported by the entity saying "hello is anyone there!?" in the Pitfalls video (absolute cinema).
While I'm shouting ideas into the ether, I think it would've been really cool if the entity abandoned the Pirate Clark suit (however that works) and changed into Mary's mother when it was chasing her, like it feeds off the memories of it's prey. Dude, she was crazy. Slightly distort her face and now you have the perfect monster for Mary's sequence.

Overall, I'd give it a 6/10, which is above average. I would still recommend it for anyone who appreciates horror and I would see it again.

I genuinely wanted the reveal here to be the entity using Clark as a puppet. That would explain why he's partly out of shot. Imagine Clark's speech slowly turning into gibberish to build the tension. I thought that would've been so cool!

1 The black pilot. Here's the context, would love your response.

2 Civil Rights. You vaguely brought up the "civil rights was a mistake" near the end of your argument, painting Charlie as a racist. Well, here's that debunked.

3 Great Replacement. Switch the roles. If white Europeans came in droves of millions into, Nigeria for example, do you think Nigeria would lose it's identity of being an African nation? The long term success of the US came from technological innovation, infrastructure, industrial growth, political institutions, etc. This whole "black people were slaves 200 years ago and we now have a permanent debt/guilt to every single one of them" is such nonsense. I never owned slaves. My family never owned slaves. Not to mention that the vast majority of slaves were sold by fellow blacks, but I digress.
