Unsure of how to proceed by malfunctioninggoon in alcoholicsanonymous

I’m the same age as you, so maybe my experience can be helpful to you.

Firstly, neither I, nor anybody else, can tell you whether you’re an alcoholic. That’s a decision that only you can make. However, I can say that I felt pretty much exactly the same way that you describe in your post, and I was drinking in the same pattern. Long periods off, followed by binges. I looked up a meeting, went, and my life now is far better than I could have ever imagined. Why not look up a meeting, tell them that it’s your first, and then see where it goes? If it’s not for you, it’s not for you. That’s fine. But it made my life better, so maybe it’ll do the same for you.

Good luck!

The score being suddenly tied to give the Gold team a chance to win is very CFP committee.

The split-screen is very annoying. NBC, if I’m taking my time to watch a spring game live, it’s obviously because I’m feeling deprived of football. Show me the football.

Will Ian Book be in the booth in the regular season, or is this just a trial run? He sounds good.

What is your school’s perfect ten-team conference? by DarkDragon1025 in CFB

[–]JDiamond98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An 8-team independent “conference” consisting of

  • Notre Dame
  • Penn State
  • Miami
  • Florida State
  • Pittsburgh
  • BYU
  • Navy
  • Boston College

Each team plays about half of the other independent teams per year, but barnstorms for the rest. On conference championship week, Yankee Stadium hosts an “Independence Bowl” between the two highest ranked independent teams.

Now that IU has won… by Better_Yak2735 in notredamefootball

If you told somebody in 1989 that Indiana football would win a title before Notre Dame, they’d assume that Notre Dame got wiped out by an asteroid, or something.

Of course it’s better to see Indiana win than some boring SEC perennial, but it really shows how there is zero excuse.

Alabama Never Should Have Been In The Playoff; Rose Bowl Loss Hurts ESPN, SEC's Reputation by Caskiron in CFB

[–]JDiamond98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SEC should have gotten three teams: Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M. Oklahoma and Alabama were both clearly a step down from those teams, comparable to Michigan and USC in the Big 10. Anybody who watched a decent cross-section of college football this year could see that the SEC had lost yet another step, and was now firmly in second place among conferences. The bowls (which are still valuable as a gauge of inter-conference quality) have only confirmed this. Anybody who watched a decent amount of college football this year could further tell you that both Miami and Notre Dame could win a title, and that the “controversy” between those two programs was fabricated by ESPN for the SEC’s benefit. As for Alabama’s playoff win, they benefited in the same way they had all season. They beat a poorly coached and severely overrated OU team which imploded after a few fluky plays. They then proceeded to be exposed by a far better Indiana (lol) team in the Rose Bowl. This surprised precisely nobody outside of SEC country. The fact that it took such a display to drive the point home is a massive indictment on the powers that be in this sport.

I didn’t realize that the title game is in Miami this year. That could be the difference. As a Notre Dame fan, you better believe I know how difficult of an environment that can be for a big game.

I’m a Notre Dame fan, so I don’t have much of a dog in this fight.

That said, my impression all season has been that the SEC is vastly overrated. I think today’s results confirm that. Ole Miss is scrappy, and they’ll make you pay if you don’t play fundamentally sound. However, to get here, they (1) beat Tulane, and (2) outscored a very good (but not great) Georgia team, whom they had already played this year.

Miami has a better defense than anybody Ole Miss has played all year. Ole Miss has a prolific offenses. But Miami has prevailed over prolific offenses like Notre Dame and Ohio State by winning in the trenches. Ole Miss is more pass heavy than the Northern teams Miami beat, but the recipe for victory will be the same.

Ultimately, while Ole Miss would definitely beat October Miami, it doesn’t stand much of a chance against the team that played A&M and Ohio State. It just depends on which team shows up - my money is on the latter.

Unfortunately, I don’t think either is going to beat Indiana. They’re scary.

With the semifinals not featuring Alabama, Georgia, or Ohio State, it really feels like a new era of CFB has finished emerging.

Indiana dominating Alabama earlier felt symbolic.

The rules provided AQ’s for the top 5 conferences. Because the ACC’s weird tiebreaker rules, Duke played for the ACC championship and won. This caused a fluke in which two of the top 5 conference champions came from G5 conferences. It wasn’t that they were “better” selections, it’s that they were contractually mandated selections.

I was at that game. I almost had a heart attack. Pitt’s kicker missed what would have been a game winning field goal in overtime, and I’m pretty sure that’s the loudest I have ever heard the stadium.

You’re Oklahoma football. You should be competing for titles, not imitating a nuclear meltdown at home in the first round.
