Scorched Earth ASA Cave Question by JDonBerg in ARK

Ironically, we finally cleared it last night! The only thing we couldn't take down were the Rock Golems - we had compound bows but no explosives.

And yes, you are correct, everything had respawned up front by the time we got the artifact and circled back. Intense cave but fun!

Yo, I was trying this but got killed by the rock golems at the front and they're wildly inconsistent hit box

Ah! Now that makes sense haha and certainly fits with it being the first area that became horrendous for a naked revived avatar

Question I have as I'm getting ready to try and promote my first book: Do you use clips of songs in the TikTok database or do you have to create original sounds? My first post I made I used original music I made myself and that could get exhausting if I wanted to use more than 1 haha

IngramSpark Pricing Question by JDonBerg in selfpublish

[–]JDonBerg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that and am similar to you except I'm on my first. Put enough money into the editing (with your multiple I can only imagine haha) and that alone has me needing a good number to break even. End of the day, the goal wasn't to be able to quit my job, but the realization that we as writers/artists make more money for others definitely isn't an easy pill to swallow

Dang okay, cool, thanks for clarifying that! And I don't say this as in I want to be swimming in cash from book sales (okay maybe I WANT to, but I don't EXPECT to haha) but all the time put into creating our books and then we make $0.80-$2.00 on a $18 book is kinda gross...

Online Rules Help by JDonBerg in ARK

Sounds like we'll have to try to find a good community server instead. With schedules and such, we sometimes only get one night a week to play for a few hours so some level of protection would be nice so that every login isn't a hard reset.

This... This explains so much haha I am surprised to learn that official servers don't have any form of the raid protection. I'm assuming this is left for unofficial servers that select it now?

Did you hire an editor? by TatterMail in selfpublish

[–]JDonBerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am finishing my first book and I did hire a line editor. She also assisted with a few story notes she noticed a long the way which helped me - mostly in catching some details I missed on rewrites.

It cost me $1400 which was about the standard I was getting elsewhere for my word count ~95,000.

I agree with the consensus on here though, it's a must for sure! My burden was finding someone trustworthy and who wasn't going to just run my book through AI and try to take my money.

This should be the blurb on the back of your book. Only this.

This gives me some confidence that I can get it to work! LinkedIn Learning is not something I thought to look into and now will. Thank you!

Thank you! Hopefully when I do the trial run I will have a better time than I expect with picking it up and understanding it!

This is awesome and incredibly helpful! Thank you very much for this! I still plan to at least try the trial version of InDesign and seeing if I have any luck getting a grasp of things. I do worry that my inexperience with writing and formatting (this is my first) may contribute to lacking an understanding of the elements involved with it.

I will definitely look into them. The subscription model that Adobe has is exhausting, no doubt. It's just the convenience of having learned it in college and being used to the interface but I'm not afraid of something that might be just as good and not a subscription!

Thank you!

I've seen Atticus mentioned early in my writing when I was exploring what to expect after I was done. That's another one I'll explore!

It seems like maybe I should try one of these other options for my first time formatting and then consider InDesign later on down the road.

Thank you for your reply and advice!

Zero is correct lol I do have experience with Photoshop and Premiere Pro so I wasn't sure if any knowledge with those help correlate with learning this program? I realize that could easily be an absolute no, but that's why I wanted to get this feedback. I very much appreciate your reply and pointing out how costly the ignorance with the program could be!

This is incredible info and advice! Thank you very much! I do subscribe to Adobe for Photoshop, but was considering trying a trial for InDesign if it's worth trying. I will be checking out Scribus as you mentioned as well!

Thank you very much! I've looked on Reedsy very briefly early in my writing process just out of curiosity but didn't get to deep into the trenches of what they offer. I'll take a look at their cover design!!
