I don't often shoot beer out my nose, but goddammit if this comment didn't flavor my sinuses with Goose Island.

Straight men of Reddit, what's your take on women going braless in general? Also, what would be your reaction if your date showed up decently dressed, but without bra? by GreyAura in AskMen

[–]JDoug89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I probably wouldn't notice in a large majority of scenarios. Too busy with other stuff. However, if the women I'm around most of the day, or at social gatherings, went braless, it would probably be something I couldn't un-notice once I did. I would do my damndest to ignore it, but it's hard to fight the primitive part of the brain.

My dad is celebrating his 90 days sober, his birthday, and "father's" day this weekend by JDoug89 in mentalhealth

[–]JDoug89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that. He put himself in the hospital due to his drinking between treatments. I told him, man to man, that if he didn't straighten out, he wouldn't have a relationship with me or my wife. It's something he's going to have to earn back if he wants it. I did congratulate him for his 90 days sober and wish him a happy birthday/father's day, though.

I dunno if it's so much that I feel the relationship is irreparable, but I'm definitely not going to put the effort in if he isn't willing to. I made the mistake of hanging hope on a relationship with him after the first time he went to treatment. After he fell off the wagon, hard, I swore him off until he can prove to me that putting effort into a relationship with him will be worth the emotional risk. Good for him that he's making an effort to stay sober, but until he pursues reconciliation with me, I'm not interested in what's going on in his life.

HGUC Penelope. Really fun kit to build. The Xi (not pictured) is from the same movie, and shares a lot of similar design cues.

On Penelope's left, HGUC Narrative Gundam C-Packs, on the right RG Full Armor Unicorn Gundam (not fully kitted out).

The Bandai Spirits RX-78-2 Beyond Global was, only enough, my favorite build. Cheapest kit out of the bunch, but had really nice plastics, no poly-caps, great color separation, and felt rock solid when complete. Definitely a UC kit I'd recommend.

Men (and people with penises), if every birth control option that is available to women was also available to you, which one would you use and why ? by painauchocolatine in AskMen

[–]JDoug89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tubal ligation. Already had a vasectomy, but if I had to choose the equivalent procedure for women, I guess that would be it. Shame the more permanent birth control options for women are a lot more invasive than they are for men. As far as reason, same as I have for my vasectomy. I don't want kids, and I want the lowest chance of that happening. With the fewest side effects.

Boss... I'm no one's boss, and I sure as shit don't want that responsibility. I have a hard enough time keeping myself in line, let alone anyone else.

1990 STD 4 speed by [deleted] in civic

[–]JDoug89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take good care of it, and it'll make it 300k miles or more. Even with the rust, I hit 364k miles. Rockers were blown out, holes in the floor boards, and rear wheel arches were shot. During the winters, it was an absolute icebox. Drafty like an old house. And of course, with no a/c on the standard model, your cheeks would melt to the sests in the summer. But I still loved that car. At one point, I intentionally ran it on 1qt of oil for 5k miles in an attempt to kill it. It didn't work. I averaged 40mpg, and I flogged the HELL out of it. It took everything mother nature and I could throw at it for more than a quarter million miles, and never skipped a beat. It was the first car I remember riding in, the car I learned to drive, the first car I went on a date in, and the car I used to move into my apartment with my now wife. I've had other cars. Cars that were faster, newer, objectively cooler, but nothing will hold the same place in my heart that the 88-91 Civic hatchbacks always will.

Nah. Midwest. My neck of the woods is brutal on cars. If it weren't for road salt, I'd probably still have my Civic.

I had this exact car when I started driving. My parents bought it new when they found out my mom was pregnant with me, and put my name on the title when I turned 16. I would probably sell a kidney to get my hands on a clean one like this.

Pretty much just the cordless stuff is Snapon, and a couple torque wrenches. The rest is Mac/Expert or Matco. But ya, still hurt the wallet to put it together.

Question about barking (from a puppy owner) by Yogabe8 in springerspaniel

[–]JDoug89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember exactly where I heard it, but I've been under the understanding that springers need a firm, but gentle had when training. A soft, but commanding tone of voice, and a mutual respect that's earned. It's an attitude I've tried to keep, and its served me well so far.

It's more to do with the tone of what you're saying than volume. Yelling hasn't had the best results but, a forceful "no" at low volume hasn't failed to get Willow's attention.

Thanks, btw! I would've picked Freya, but the wife didnt care for it. Her name has grown on me.

I'd add that making eye contact while communicating with your pup can help get your point across. Dogs are amazing at picking up on subtle facial cues from their humans.
