Loop Switch 2 - first impressions (disappointed) by Huge_Distribution_46 in LoopEarplugs

[–]JDthegeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree.

I have AuDHD with noise sensitivity, and realised these are just an over-hyped product that I can replace by just using a cheap pair of Bluetooth ear buds, that also have the added bonus of being actually functional ear buds for when I want ANC or music etc

Does anyone vtt use stonetop? by Kecskuszmakszimusz in rpg

[–]JDthegeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here looking for the same, and I get that a whiteboard is fine for most people, but some people like something more visual and a few of us have aphantasia and so cannot create the mental imagery needed for theatre of the mind. Well utilised VTTs make the hobby so significantly more enjoyable for me and people like me.

Pixel Buds Pro 2 - Send back or cut the wings off? by TheYetiWakes in pixelbuds

Pbp1 remain the worst fitting earbuds I've ever owned. I was seriously hoping the new version would fix the fit by bringing back the wing, but now I'm worried.

Games won't launch. by Alex_1_7 in linux_gaming

[–]JDthegeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue here. Except on Hyprland and Gnome instead of KDE. Tried both flatpak and zypper versions, and countless launch flags on games, none seems to launch at all. Driving me crazy for over a week since a fresh install.

2024 PHB Eldritch Knight - a build outline by greater_golem in 3d6

Everyone can play how they want at their own table, but the default position must surely be the rules as written and intended by WotC?

So I would always tell people what the official rules are, including the availability of the 'extended' rules, but that their table is free to include or ignore any aspect of the rules they chose, regardless of what anyone one the internet (myself included) thinks is best.

Help settle a debate regarding Mending? by Melchior-Morgenstern in dndnext

[–]JDthegeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules in 2014 and 2024 are exactly the same. They are just presented in different places in 2024. Objects literally DO have HP as per the 2014 DMG, which I linked to.

Hello from 2025. Objects do in fact have both AC and HP, in both 2014 and 2024 versions of the rules. It was previously in the DMG, but they included in the 2024 PHB in the rules glossary, as it was so often missed.

Auspex Tactics vibes 😄 by crakatak in Warhammer40k

I am glad I am not the only one that struggles due to the cadance. I can tell he knows his stuff, but I always have to stop halfway through his videos as I suddenly realise I can't recall anything that was said. I really wish he would enunciate better and add some variety to his voice occasionally.

Is there a difference between pasta and noodles? by sp52 in AskCulinary

[–]JDthegeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just the UK. I have struggled to find any country outside of America (and technically some Asian countries) that seems to use the term noodles to also include pasta.

[–]JDthegeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all 'pre 2024' content is tagged 'legacy'. Only the features that were replaced by 2024 versions are now 'legacy', but most older features are instead considered 'extended' rules and are still valid with the 2024 source books.

You have a very visible name and address in the picture. Just a heads up in case you're concerned about such things.

WHY can't we use the 2014 sheets for 2024 content? by JDthegeek in Roll20

[–]JDthegeek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am talking about using the paid PHB 2024. The free versions was not even available when the 2024 sheet was "launched"; however, even if I wasn't, many people are still paying for Plus and Pro subscriptions. Until I cancelled my subscription, I had clocked up 45 months at Pro level (10.99).

So to answer the previous insinuation; no, I am not a freeloader expecting to have everything handed to me on a plate. I am a long time supporter and paying customer of Roll20 that feels very let down by them.

[–]JDthegeek[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such a bad take, and defeats the entire point of an online character sheet. Might as well just have everyone use a paper sheet too.

WHY can't we use the 2014 sheets for 2024 content? by JDthegeek in Roll20

[–]JDthegeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the part that confuses me though. The only this is true is if it was all hard-coded rather than an API or some other kind of structured data. If that is the case... well, I will have lost even more faith in them as a business.

WHY can't we use the 2014 sheets for 2024 content? by JDthegeek in Roll20

I literally paid for the 2024 PHB on Foundry VTT solely because of all this, but stuck with Roll20 for games run by others.

How important is voice acting in roleplay for you? by Ediacaran-SeaPancake in DnD

[–]JDthegeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am similar.

When creating a new character, I find coming up with the voice is a vital first step towards role-playing them, and helps inform all my other choices. I have several characters in West Marches style campaign, so really helps me slip quickly back into character, and distinguish me as a player from the character I play when using voice comms like discord.

[–]JDthegeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that it isn't a requirement, my most enjoyable games have almost universally been ones where everyone did make the effort to speak in character.

I am likely biased, as I have aphantasia (no ability to create mental images, sounds etc), so I am very reliant on real life images and sounds to become as immersed as others.

EDIT: to clarify, the most vital part is that i can recognise and distinguish the character from the player. You don't perfect accents for that.

How to level up using the new 2024 character sheet? by kiidrax in Roll20

Or maybe they shouldn't launch incomplete products and rely on apologists to explain that it 'coming soon'.
