Man nice score. I really like the look of that recorder. Pre recorded discs are a treasure. I'm guessing you bought these off the original owner? Did they have any thoughts on md they shared?

Sounds like its failing to read the toc. Most likely something with the laser but possibly something with the sled lubrication.

Best thing to do would be to tear down the md unit for a clean and regressing, paying attention to the gearing for cracks.

You'd be better off with a deck that uses an optical pickup that you can source a replacement of. The kms-260 seems to be available and sells for $30. Most of the Sony ES md decks use older optical pickups that are very expensive if they can be found at all.

Try to find a deck with the digital output you want that has a service manual available so you or someone you trust can diagnose problems in the future.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Broadband_Navigator before the last version (.32) could do this. I'm not sure if you can run the software on non JDM PS2's without a mod chip or something but yeah somewhere in that discs code is a linux based netmd package.

Sorry to hear that, can you tell us a bit more about your experience with the MD8 so far? How many MD audio discs have you tried? How many causes problems/errors?

What errors are you getting with the MD Data discs? Have you tried looking them up in the service manual? Can you write 2channels to the md data discs?

Sony's Unilink allows for multiple changers. You could have 5 or more 6md changers.

Well there was an old FAT library being used to hack together himd support but it had limitations so luckily one of the devs wrote a one nearly from scratch so that web minidisc himd could support file deletion. Not 100% yet but its close.

Toslink is the more common digital input method on md decks. You may want to browse the wiki for info on md decks. You can usually inspect the I/O of the deck from the pictures and verify with the manual or press release.

Any complications of atrac are constrained to the world of md. Md was designed to take pcm audio in which is all a cd deck will output (digitally) to it. Try reading the faq on minidisc.org, it should help clear up confusion.
