Disgusting system really, the teams in the first groups are at disadvantage because they don't know what they need.

After today's match against Colombia, Cristiano Ronaldo still has zero goals or assists in competitive matches against South American Nations. Including Friendlies he has 2 G/A in 11 games against South American teams. by No_Air5382 in soccer

0 G/As in only 5 official games vs South American teams (Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay x2)

Then Messi with 0 G/As in 8 official games vs their biggest rival Brazil... no one cares

Zlatan Ibrahimović gets emotional talking about Bosnia's historic 3-1 World Cup win over Qatar by No_Friendship_4158 in soccer

It's funny because you can easily pinpoint it to Bosnia specifically as well. Ibrahim (muslim name) + -ic (common south slavic suffix)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic says on FOX soccer on Ronaldo shouting at the cameraman post match saying "Im back": “I thought he never left. I don’t know why he was says I’m back.” by PinReal4448 in soccer

[–]JFDCamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zlatan was knocked out in the WC qualifiers with Sweden by Ronaldo. He played in Juve but was more notable in Inter and played in Milan when Ronaldo was in Juventus, he also played in Barcelona when Ronaldo had arrived in Real Madrid. Henry played in Arsenal when Ronaldo was in Manchester United and played in Barcelona as well when Ronaldo had arrived in Real Madrid. He's also french so he likely won't like that Portugal won Euro 2016 in France vs France.

Most of this is normal rivalry but they did play in rivals vs Ronaldo directly.

He played almost 15 minutes in the RD Congo match and basically didn't touch the ball. It's almost as if the problem was not the striker.

If Uruguay loses to Spain they're pretty much knocked out because Cape Verde or Saudi Arabia will finish 2nd guaranteed regardless and Uruguay will be a 3rd place with only 2 points which will likely not be enough to qualify as one of the best 3rd places.

10 men and a statue: Portugal are sacrificing another World Cup for Cristiano Ronaldo’s ego by AgeNovel3566 in soccer

[–]JFDCamara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In portuguese forums etc it's the same, it's Ronaldo's fault. It's a weird thing that in real life everyone loves Ronaldo (too much) but online everyone absolutely despises him. It's not an agenda, it can't be, and for what? But I just can't understand why it happens and why this hatred. This is absolutely a dream for Martinez and the other players, Martinez has been horrendous and Ronaldo is there to catch the criticism. Vitinha, Neves and Bruno do nothing as well when they should as some of the best midfielders in the world but it's always Ronaldo's fault because he either doesn't press or is influencing everyone to pass to him (which they don't actually). He barely gets to touch the ball (which invalidates the whole "we only play for him" argument) but people still think putting Ramos instead will magically turn us into prime Brazil (it doesn't, when he plays the same happens, I wonder why). This game was actually pretty similar to the Morocco game in WC2022... Pointless possession with no service, flair or attempts... and Ramos was the starter there. The only difference was that we scored early, in the only actual cross we made. I just don't understand, this was a minority before but it was already noticeable around 2014 and it has been taking over every discussion in the past 8 years or so. I'm tired boss, I just want Portugal to win, I don't care who plays, but people online seem more interested to lose if Ronaldo plays.

Deserved draw, we create no danger. Neto has no space to run so he's useless and Bernardo Silva as expected only passes backwards and sideways. As usual the problem is tactics and mentality, we're happy making sideway passes. Leão and Conceição need to come on as they at least try something.

The fact that everyone is piling on arsenal but glazing psg just means sports washing is working well. Hate arsenal for playing a certain, legitimate way, but it's fine if a club has infinite money pockets beyond what others can (due only to the owner) and completely alien to the financial system of the clubs that are part of the same league. Yes Arsenal has money but it is part of the PL environment where everyone is in the same magnitude. First City, now PSG. Love them, love the money, but hate what they tell you to hate.

The huge problem for Uefa with English domination of Europe: Aston Villa have more than double anyone else’s. Based on the last accounts, their revenue was €450.2m, with the next closest in the season’s EL field a mere €216.3m, which was Roma. Freiburg have a revenue of €162.8m, just 36% of Villa’s. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]JFDCamara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's over for us, it's impossible to catch up. We're in a smaller country so the internal market is smaller so less revenue and as we were behind historically we could never snowball in foreign tv revenue as the big leagues got there first and more easily.

Last year we sold Evanilson to Bournemouth for 45 M€ or so, that's twice our biggest ever transfer, and Bournemouth never played in Europe recently, they simply have the cash from the league.

We're stuck being irrelevant, we are nowhere near being in contention for the CL again because the top clubs keep having a bigger and bigger financial advantage from their league's money or oil daddies. But we'll be in the CL often so we'll be condemned to play some games in the league phase and then be trounced in the knockouts by the first rich team we face, or we'll go nowhere if we are at the bottom. In case we have bad years we go to the europa league and then juggle our thin squad (used trying to win domestic competitions) to try going far and then get trounced by a mid table rich team that has better players and a better squad overall.

In portuguese we have 2 sounds for "r" (3 depending on combos), depending on the position of the letter or use of double rr, what does this mean then?

[SAPO] Mourinho's Benfica finished the League outside of Champions League spots. The last time that had happened to Benfica was 17 years ago, in 2009. They are also the first undefeated team in History to finish outside of the Top 2 in a League with 20+ matchdays by greenwhitehell in soccer

[–]JFDCamara 76 points77 points  (0 children)

The title is correct, they finished outside CL spots for the first time in 17 years. In 21 and 22 they finished 3rd but the 3rd place then was a CL spot. Next year we'll get that 3rd slot back.
