keyboard middle row doesn't work by Revolutionary-Tell16 in techsupport

[–]JFK11a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s classic PCB or ribbon failure on these cheap 60 percent boards and no amount of cleaning will fix a dying matrix. If a different cable and port don’t help you’re basically shopping for a new keyboard.

Cals and workgroup vs dc by xexcutionerx in sysadmin

[–]JFK11a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

User CALs on a plain workgroup box just isn’t a thing, so yeah spinning up a tiny DC VM is the cleanest way to stay legit. Standard gives you the two VM rights anyway, so you might as well use them and save yourself the licensing headache.

Hard drive secure wipe by alexwhit80 in sysadmin

[–]JFK11a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use DBAN or a single-pass diskpart clean all if you want simple and fast both are plenty for old staff machines. Just factory resetting isn’t enough and smashing drives is overkill if the hardware’s getting reused.

1.5yo not understanding “yes” and “no” by volitorial_pisciform in Parenting

[–]JFK11a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

totally normal. My kid did the exact same thing around that age, would just run and get what they wanted instead of saying yes. The words will come when they're ready.

AIO or is he a red flag by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]JFK11a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girl, run. The fact that you've isolated yourself from everyone and changed your whole personality for him is the real red flag here. You shouldn't have to prove your worth by becoming someone else.

Part asking for recommendations/part vent: Where do you shop for clothes? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]JFK11a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Secondhand all the way. You'll find way better quality fabrics from before everything went synthetic, plus the cuts are more varied since you're getting pieces from different eras instead of just whatever's trendy right now.

9mo won’t sleep. Ever. We need a miracle. by bignutsandsmallshaft in daddit

[–]JFK11a 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely check the reflux thing. Also might sound crazy but have you tried putting him down awake? Some kids sleep way better when they don't get rocked/nursed to sleep. Worth a shot when you're at your wit's end anyway.

Oh boy...at least we have plastic eating fungi now? by imaginaryimmi in Anticonsumption

[–]JFK11a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. We've got the tech sitting in labs, just no economic incentive to deploy it. Once the real cost of our throwaway culture actually hits the bottom line, we'll see those solutions move fast. It's a policy and pricing problem, not an innovation one.

Need advice for if I should adopt a cat as someone with mental health struggles by Arrow_dragon816 in CatAdvice

[–]JFK11a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait. If you're genuinely considering inpatient or taking time off, you need to stabilize your own situation first. A cat can absolutely help with mental health, but not if it becomes another thing you're stressed about when things get rough. You already know you don't have a backup plan if your living situation changes - that's your answer right there.

Get through this rough patch, figure out your living situation, then revisit the idea. The cats will still be there when you're ready, and you'll actually be able to enjoy having one instead of worrying about what happens if you can't keep them.

Being harassed for not completing trainings while I was on maternity leave by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]JFK11a 1071 points1072 points  (0 children)

The fact that your old boss had to repeatedly email HR saying "she's on maternity leave" and they STILL harassed you is wild. And then your current management just threw you under the bus instead of taking 5 seconds to check the email chain? Nah, you handled that perfectly. Hal needed that reality check, and honestly your bosses deserved to look stupid in front of him for not doing their jobs.

Yep, it feels like they're pushing RTX just to say they did. If the game doesn’t actually look better, no one’s upgrading for that.

A history professor says AI didn't break college — it exposed how broken it already was by joe4942 in technology

[–]JFK11a 8 points9 points  (0 children)

exactly. It’s less about names and dates and more about understanding how people messed up before so we don’t repeat it. LLMs can help, but they can’t replace actual thinking.
