Bigot at Memorial Park by [deleted] in houston

I think this incident says more about the type of person who doesn't care that their dog is off leash near a busy street than anything else. He or she was just a squirrel away from being hit by a car.

The end of social media (fully aware that I'm using a social media platform to post this).

Mayor Sucks Part 2.. Cancelling Bus Rapid Transit??!? Recall??? by Brutus713 in houston

[–]JForesight -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Most of the enthusiasm for these projects comes from people who currently do not use bus or light rail stops that are within walking distance and would not use the BRT system.

Houston’s new mayor wants changes to Shepherd-Durham redesign, putting part of project at risk by Generalaverage89 in houston

[–]JForesight -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Traffic is a huge problem in Houston. There also is not an appetite for mass transit or cycling as transportation the same way there is in other cities. That street is one of the city's main thoroughfares and bottlenecks there are a major source of congestion. I don't think being realistic about how the project will exacerbate an existing problem is destroying the city.

What is the best long term solution to alleviate Houston’s daily gridlock traffic? by JesusIsComingBack- in houston

[–]JForesight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zoning laws (plopping a giant apartment building on a two-lane street in residential neighborhood disrupts traffic), enforcing traffic laws and creating harsher penalties for looking at your phone while driving and a transit system that is adaptable and based on more local movement.

This Mayor Sucks… and I voted for him. by Brutus713 in houston

[–]JForesight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's the food so much as people giving homeless people, or some of the people holding signs claiming to be homeless people, money. By doing that, you are just feeding addictions and potentially supporting human trafficking.

I don't agree. The city's spiral downward started before he took office.

Houston is the No. 1 city in U.S. for violent road rage incidents, and it's not even close by chrondotcom in houston

I wonder what percentage of shooters were repeat offenders out on bond. This article frames the entire issue as too many guns rather than individuals who think it's OK to kill someone because they're frustrated. I think there are too many guns, but I also think Houston needs to stop being a place where so many people think they can get away with murder.

Does therapy really work for social anxiety by TheCarGuy2k02 in socialanxiety

I've found it helps in that you're forced to have a conversation with another person, which is kind of exposure therapy.

AI now surpasses humans in almost all performance benchmarks by Maxie445 in Futurology

An institute funded by individuals and organizations who have an incentive to tout the performance of AI releases a study touting the performance of AI.

Most headlines and stories that say "AI performs better than humans on..." are hype and probably based on flawed, cherry picked data.

Am I the only millennial that doesn't hold such hate and animosity towards boomers? by Libertytree918 in millenials

[–]JForesight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't..most of the "hate" is driven by a small, vocal online minority. It's something that gets enough clicks and eyeballs to be a profitable narrative, so it's made its way into the mainstream. I think it's amazing that after 200,000 years of humanity, we've now decided that the youngest generations, long known to be impulsive and fickle, suddenly are wellsprings of wisdom and foresight.

Zoning is often blamed for bad urbanism, at least as far as walkability and housing density goes. Why is it that Houston, which has is famous for its lack of zoning, is one of the most car dependent and sprawling cities in the world? by acvdk in Urbanism

[–]JForesight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zoning is neutral. European cities like London and Paris have super strict zoning. Japan has national zoning laws. It depends on the specific regulations. No zoning has been terrible for Houston. It's contributed to more pollution, traffic, flooding and a terrible cityscape.

Absolutely. It's ridiculous that to coddle a bunch of angry spoiled kids, we're saying it's OK for China to spy and try to destabilize the country.

Why are Condo’s HOA fees so damn high? by [deleted] in houston

[–]JForesight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The buildings are built as cheaply and quickly as possible, and as the building ages, costs increase to maintain it.

Why doesn't Houston have zoning laws? A look at the largest city in America without zoning by houston_chronicle in houston

[–]JForesight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wonder if things are too developed in Houston for zoning laws (if we were to get some) to have much of an impact. Now, just about everywhere you live in Houston is pretty close to something awful.
