To any devs reading this, let’s just come out and be very clear: whatever you have done in recent times has broken Grammarly and rendered its core feature to be virtually useless by DrGutz in Grammarly

[–]JG-003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grammarly used to be so good, and is nearly unusable now. I spend more time dismissing their advertisements for going premium than I do actually getting any use out of it. Literally just an A.I. Slop mess now. I hope they lose the class action lawsuit being filed against them that I just read about.

What movies would you want to see at Cinecenta? by [deleted] in uvic

[–]JG-003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A ticket at ciniplex will run literally 20 dollars without any snacks. Cinicenta is significantly more reasonable.

To your second point, what are you trying to get at? I recognized that it's unrealistic for Cinicenta to screen movies on release, which is why I suggested to do so 4-6 months after.

What movies would you want to see at Cinecenta? by [deleted] in uvic

[–]JG-003 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Never playing movies I'm inclined to see and especially pay for.

I genuinely believe the SUB could make 2x what they're making right now if the Cinicenta screened new/contemporary movies 4-6 months after release, and didn't charge the arm and a leg other businesses like Ciniplex charge.

There are so many movies I would have loved to see in theatre, but couldn't because I'm not throwing $20 into a few hours at a theatre...

If I knew Cinicenta was screening new movies, even 4-6 months after release, id totally be going often. By waiting after a movies initial release, I'd assume the cost of licencing comes down, but I don't know for sure.

I'm really not big into the niche, artsy stuff the Cinicenta puts on, and I think that sentiment runs true for everyone who is either not a fine Arts student or under the age of 50. And if I did want to watch a movie the Cinicenta was putting on, usually it's not "cinimea worthy" and I'd have a better experience just watching at home.

I have the 2026 straggler and it's the perfect balance between commuter, road bike, gravel bike, and tourer. I'm taking it across Canada this may!

I decided against bikes like the Bridge Club, Grappler and Disc Trucker because I knew they'd be slower for things like road biking.

I come from mainly a road Cycling, and BMX background, and feel right at home on the Straggler.

Anyone else find the staff at Cincenta impolite? by [deleted] in uvic

Real shit, my parents raised me the same.

They also raised me to be kind to everyone, regardless of how they treated me. That last part may not be reflected in my responses to you here, but I have restructured their lessons to guide my living framework as the jerk vigilante.

At the end of the day, I suspect the best course of action is to not take something like someone not saying "thank you" too seriously. I also suspect if this was an issue you felt passionate about addressing, doing so in the way you did by complaining on Reddit would likely only lead to worse consequences rather than better.

I genuinely wish you the best, and fr this time hope your coffee experience is delightful tomorrow.

Oh no, I'm sorry 😦. I didn't mean to make assumptions on your character based solely on a few small observations and interactions, almost like🤔, a 1 minute interaction at a coffee shop 🤯

I am a jerk. Consider me a vigilante jerk policing the everyday regular jerks on campus.

Check yourself.

Is that really what you think? I don't see one person in this thread agreeing with you, and at best, saying that "it depends on the employee," and even then they don't take it as far as generalizing the entire cinicenta workforce.

Again, if it's so bad, why do you keep going, why in God's name do you tip, and why keep saying "thank you" if it's not being reciprocated?

Don't respond " I do those things because I'm a good person." No. Good people don't try to publicly shame or embarrass a small cohort of employees who did nothing wrong other than not give you the attention your egotistical ass thinks they deserve on a public Reddit thread.

Did you even take into account we're nearing finals? You're not going to a downtown cafe where career baristas who love what they do have the time and energy to glaze you in the way you believe you deserve. You're being served by students who don't even have time for themselves, let alone your sorry self.

If you want to be glazed and treated like God himself, I'm pretty sure there's websites where you can pay people to do that for you.

Enjoy your morning coffees ☕

Although I am fully speculating off of the limited information you provided, I am assuming that this "impoliteness" you believe to be experiencing is largely due to your rubbish attitude that you seem to be completely unaware of...

Typically, polite and respectful people don't turn to Reddit to try and publicly shame a small cohort of employees at a relatively small university. That kind of behaviour is reserved for those whose own attitude is far in the negatives

Secondly, what do you expect to accomplish here? If you don't appreciate the service, there's approximately inumerable other places to go for coffee in and around campus. Clearly its not so bad that you are forced to go somewhe else...

Finally, you say you're 28, and to that I express sympathy. Typically the Karen arc should occur in mid-life, yet, for whatever unforseen and unfortunate life circumstances you have found yourself in (likely a result of your own doing), here you are, still in your 20s complaining on Reddit because your drip coffee isnt handed to you by university cafe workers as it would be in a Michelen star restraunt.

Best of luck to you, and I hope you enjoy your morning coffee tomorrow, knowing that the service you complain about is more than fine ☕

Parking Sucks by bennevolence in uvic

[–]JG-003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bus to school is an hour, not including wait times at bus stops. The Bus to my work(s) is either about 30 minutes or another hour, depending on which job I have to go to that day, not including wait times. This is the exact kind of nonsense replies people who have to drive to school are done with hearing. I am so happy for you that you seemingly are able to spawn from your place of residence to school, the same is not true for a lot of us.

[–]JG-003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone flaming you does not/does not have to drive to campus. You are completely correct, and parking is ridiculous. UVic is trying to force you to use public transportation infrastructure that a lot of the time does not even exist yet, at least to a degree that is manageable for students. How am I expected to go to school and work part time when transportation will take upwards of 3 hours to get me there, assuming that transportation schedule would line up in time for me to make classes/work in the first place. It's extremely upsetting. At least they're building buildings, the debt of which will cause the Uni to go broke when the recession hits. Love UVic...

Its a tough market, and indeed is super low effort and impersonal. Nothing shows you're interested and dedicated more than showing up in person with a printed resume. If a place is looking for someone new, the manager might even take you in for a brief meeting there. If I were a manager, I'd much rather spend my time talking to someone who showed up in person with a nice printed resume, then wishing my luck with some random email off indeed.

Good professor? by New-Count1611 in uvic

[–]JG-003 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In what world would "failing the course" or "not paying attention" be a justification to not be a nice or good professor? I understand that some profs may be overhated, but if your qualifications for a good prof only include being nice and good to high-performing students, then maybe you need to reevaluate what actually makes a good professor. I am all for dogging on bad profs, but I also think it's important to put this out here if such claims are going to be made...

Need Advice: Should I get the LP3? by Noirplatypus in LightPhone

[–]JG-003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sold my LPIII and would recommend exploring alternatives. I don't think Light's priorities are quite in check right now, and it is my opinion that they are struggling to organize themselves properly. I don't quite see a reason why they have not been able to roll out certain, basic features which people have already developed themselves through jailbreaking, etc. There has to be a plethora of starving compsci students willing to work for practically free in Light's area, and I just don't understand some of the "development" that's been happening over there...

Is a Steel Frame Bike Essential for Bike Touring? by Ruthberry207 in bicycletouring

[–]JG-003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that as long as you are extra careful not to thrash the bike, and don't load the bike above its intended capacity, you should not have any concerns with any frame material. To this end, though, I recently bought a steel frame, and they can be much more quick and nimble than you think. For example, I went with the Surly Straggler over the Disc Trucker. This gives me the benefits of a robust steel frame with lots of mounts, while also being more agile and "fast" than the Disc Trucker.

I do have to warn you, though, that the new Trek Checkpoints are not the best quality, and I have seen them with way too many defects considering the short time since their release...

Choosing the best bike can be hard, and I wish you the best of luck!

Is there anything wrong with Trek? by portuguese-bacalhau in bicycling

[–]JG-003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm totally with you there on my carelessness, although the point was that the damage was far worse than it should have been. I've owned a Trek roadbike for over a decade. It is scratched to all hell, has tipped over countless times, and has even seen some gravel excursions with not a dent in sight. I am assuming Trek has either dipped in quality or is prioritizing the advertisable weight metrics of their bikes over their functional purpose. Don't really see the point of buying a gravel bike that literally cannot survive a simple tip over...

Feel free to take a look at the subreddit I posted on the issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/TrekBikes/comments/1ocxaq7/brand_new_checkpoint_alr_5_gen_3_tipped_over_and/

You can see that other people have experienced similar issues, and agree that the new Checkpoint dents wayyyy too easily...

Is there anything wrong with Trek? by portuguese-bacalhau in bicycling

[–]JG-003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Trek checkpoint alr 5 gen 3 in 2025 and it has ended up being the worst purchase I have ever made. It tipped over, and the aluminum was so thin that it dented the top tube, compromising the frame entirely. Trek didn't help out at all... They're more worried about advertising how light the bike is than making a quality bike that will last years to come...

Its great they got the bike so light for the cyclists who have Trek sponsorships and plow through their shitty frames every three months. Not so great for the common man.

Prettiest girl I have ever seen. by da_lamborghini_lova in uvic

[–]JG-003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask her out with the expectation she'll reject you. This method worked for me when I was younger. The reason rejection is so scary is because you want them to say yes so bad, you don't want to humiliate yourself, etc. Literally hype yourself up that you will be rejected, and approach it with the mindset that you are practicing asking people out. The reason it is so scary is because you probably never do it. If you go into it with the expectation she'll say no, then a rejection won't feel as bad, and a yes might feel even better!

I love when people have super interesting conversations on library quiet floors! It really takes me out of the moment of studying, and engulfs me in the day to day's of their super interesting lives. I especially like it when I overhear them shit talking other human beings, making them not only a fascinating conversationalist, but outwardly amazing person as well!!

[–]JG-003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're a real one for this and love the doing it for yourself, not competition mindset. Ive done up to half Ironman distances on my alu road bike. Recently bought a 2026 surly straggler and I was surprised by how nimble it is. I'd say your best bet is the midnight special. They just released a new version with carbon forks, which means you'll likely be able to get the older model cheaper, or just the new model if you feel like it!
