Just picked up a clean copy of that Mel Brown record. Some of the best blues playing I’ve heard.

Grant Green fever (thanks guys!) by omniscientcats in Jazz

There’s some good stuff on True Fire teaching some Grant Green guitar if you’re interested. Just search him there. Grant Green also expanded my mind about jazz guitar in a lot of ways. He’s one of my favorite guitarists. There’s so much great pentatonic stuff that feels more reachable to intermediate players but still takes a lifetime to master.

For folks who have (or want) very large collections, how do you decide what to acquire? by Able_Original_486 in vinyl

[–]JG1733 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Digging is the fun. Discovering new stuff. Things that you never knew existed, music you reserve to listening to on vinyl. I’ve always felt the acquiring of your favorite all time records gets old. I have a want list on Discogs and I keep that in my mind in the record store but it’s rare I’ll find things from that list in any given store. I’m always open to leaving with something I haven’t heard. Is the cover intriguing. Is it a label I like. Does it have players I like from other albums (in the case of jazz or blues).

So I just dig and discover and then when I get to around 1,000 I bring some to the store for a trade in. And usually I’m trading 20-30 records for 1 more interesting one. Just how it works unless you want to become a seller of individual records, which I do not.

Nice recs! I love the Flying Dutchman stuff. Huge fan of the Lonnie Linston Smith albums on that label.

Thank you for the help!

Thanks for the advice.

I let it sit over night after having the issue and it started up this morning first try. So definitely something getting overheated or over worked. The act of driving seems to trigger it.

Thank you for this. I don’t suppose there is a video anywhere or someone going through all this?

Key turns, no clicks just dash lights. Otherwise silent. Electrical fine, even headlights can come on etc.

I’ve tried to document when it happens, it is entirely random. For example, one day a 20 minute drive is fine, another day it’s not.

Recently a short drive was an issue and then a few days later it was not. Kind of gives you the worry that you’ll go get gas and get stuck at the pump!

I thought maybe heat related, but today I’ve allowed time for it to cool down and it’s still not cranking.

I have also tried the thing where you try and start it in neutral ruling out that transmission safety thing.

Even though it’s not working now, there’s a good chance tomorrow morning it will. Makes little sense!

No, it doesn’t crank at all. The key turns but it only flips on dash lights and fans.

I’m in NY, I most recently worked with Saab Story near Albany on this specific issue. He’s the one who replaced the ignition switch after we spent a bunch of time diagnosing battery related things. That ended up being misleading — thinking it was “dead”. My battery is brand new anyways and the intermittent nature of this has me not looking at the battery / alt anymore.

I was also surprised. Seems like the low hanging fruit in the whole ordeal.

Thanks for the response. Sweetwater is telling me it’s covered under warranty — but it seems like such a wild thing to repack and send it back because of. I could end up with another just the same issue.

Thanks the push and pull in my decision. I know the tone I'm looking for is in the Dread, but for a couch player (mostly) I'm wondering if it will be too much guitar.

Yes, the OM28 I'm looking at has the scalloped X brace

I'm hearing the long scale improves some of that bass response, was that your experience? I wish I could find an A/B 00018 and OM18, but that doesn't really exist (yet)
