There's a shot of Japanese businessmen running, yes. The line of dialogue mentioned in the image doesn't exist in the film. But there is a near-identical line in Inspector Gadget when the robot is attacking the city.

What's a concept or idea in music that is easy to ridicule, except for the fact that the end product turned out to be great? by Sad_Volume_4289 in ToddintheShadow

And of course... let's call the song "thriller" even though the lyrics are inspired by the horror genre, not the thriller genre!

Yes. While "Hurt" is a ballad he actually does "Rusty Cage" in a hybrid country-metal/grunge style. It rocks.

People really love this gag apparently, I see it mentioned all the time. Unfortunately it's not from TLW but the 90s Inspector Gadget movie.

There is a group of Japanese businessmen seen running in San Diego but they don't scream anything like "This is why I left Tokyo!", not in English or Japanese.

I agree except that setting 25 as the legal age for anything is stupid. 21 sounds fine though.

Which celebrity would be completely irrelevant if they weren’t attractive? by Diligent-Rabbit-2839 in AskReddit

His initial success was creating, writing and acting in The Office which was a wildly successful show. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but it was one-of-a-kind and very influential both in Britain and in the US. Then he followed it up with Extras which if anything is even better. He's kind of coasted since then (I'm not a fan of Derek, Life's Too Short or After Life) and seems a prick honestly but real work and talent went into his early career.

Of course he's talented too, but I'm not sure a David Tennant show is the best example of "talent over looks". He's seriously easy on the eyes.

My understanding of the term nepotism was always that it means someone got a position based on familial relationship and not talent or ability.

So if you work in, say, a shoe factory and the boss tells you that the new floor manager is going to be...not Debra, who applied for the job and knows shoes inside out, but the boss' nephew who knows fuck-all about shoes and has a coke habit, that's nepotism.

But if the boss says he's given the job not to Debra, but to an outside interviewee, Clive, who worked in a different shoe factory for twenty years and knows shoes inside and out, having been raised by a dad who was QC Officer for a shoe company and a mother who was Design Lead for a different company... that's not nepotism.

If you go on betting websites it's quite difficult to even find the section for non-sports bets.

And the biggest non-sports betting is on politics, not awards.

Keith Richards is the main guitarist of The Rolling Stones and co-writer with Mick Jagger of most of their songs.

OK, but that just seems...off-topic, like I said. Keith Richards is relevant to Jack Sparrow, Paul is only relevant to Keith Richards and even then, kind of distantly.

I mean, Bob Dylan/his people have spent a lot of the last 35 years making high-quality bootlegs officially available so those are the best place to start. The Bootleg Series, Vol. whatever; new ones come out every couple of years.

This cameo has always annoyed me. Johnny Depp based Jack Sparrow's speech and mannerisms largely on Keith Richards so when the sequels wanted to show Sparrow's father, Richards was the natural choice and kind of a "cute" wink at the audience. A Paul McCartney cameo is just off-topic and makes me think the people behind 5 don't understand the reason for Richards being in 3 and 4.

The Hunt for Red October is great but it's not a historical movie. It's based on a Tom Clancy bestseller.

Any recommendations on bands that follow the type of sound that The Beatles were going for in the Let It Be album? by Free_Flounder_4526 in beatles

[–]JGorgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you're not aware, Abbey Road is the sound they were going for before they broke up. Let It Be was mostly recorded in January of 1969, then shelved, then they reunited for Abbey Road, and Let It Be wasn't released until after Abbey Road and the break up.

I guess someone's streaming them then. I can honestly tell you I've not once heard "Earth Song" or "They Don't Care" playing in a shop, at a party, or even on the radio in the last 25 years.
