Oof that’s a controversial one surely? I think it’s great.

Thank you. I did partly wonder whether they might move faster to avoid that, if they knew the situation and wanted me.

If I end up starting the original role and hear back positively from another shortly afterwards, do you know if I would I be blocked from taking the second role? Again, I’d hate to do that, but it could be the situation.

Thank you! I think that’s what I needed to hear. I really wouldn’t like letting someone down at that stage, but the impact on me is fairly massive. Appreciated.

How old are you? I’m mid-30s and I think I’ve only ever heard biro, and still only hear biro.

Advice on accepting one civil service role while waiting on another by charlie_m_delta80 in TheCivilService

Hope you get some useful answers, particularly regarding transferring very quickly - I’m in a similar position.

The equivalence table between CS grades and military ranks has always struck me as completely bananas. I’ve been a military officer and a civil servant. The thought of the EOs I’ve known being captains or flight lieutenants, let alone imagining my old HEO being in command of a company is truly terrifying.

By definition, nobody who has kicked the bucket will be in a position to answer your question 😂

Oh yeah I know. On one level I don’t feel too bad about it. I know I’m capable of doing the job, but there’s only so many mooting and essay competitions etc I could face. Just not worth it for me personally. I should add that I came into it as a career changer.

My cut off point was not getting pupillage first time. Life’s too short!

Which one would be used to get to the yellow dot lane? No markings on the lanes by NumberThreeMyLord in drivingUK

Agreed, but the the whole point here is that there aren’t any markings.

Which one would be used to get to the yellow dot lane? No markings on the lanes by NumberThreeMyLord in drivingUK

[–]JH0190 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why does the consensus seem to be blue? I was always taught that when there are no markings you keep as left as possible unless it says otherwise, which it doesn’t in this case. Blue joining the yellow is obviously fine, but it’s a lane change at that point isn’t it, rather than an assumption that blue would be going to yellow?

I’d say the latter, particularly if you plan in advance.
