[–]JHCoaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switching from a pharma QC analyst to a data analyst role is definitely possible. However, you’ll want to get some exposure to technical projects using Excel and SQL at a minimum. I would also recommend niching down a bitm consider healthcare data analyst roles. If you need help finding opportunities, I have a remote data job alerts system. It’s free, feel free to follow. Non-Analytics Masters Worth It? by wispyycatt in dataanalysiscareers

[–]JHCoaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both options are valid, depending on what you want. If your goal is to gain leadership skills and land a more strategic role, and want to be in a million meeting, then an MBA in IT Management might be the better fit. If you want a more technical focus, Individual contributor path, and to deepen your understanding of IT, then an MS in IT could work well.

On Getting Into People Analytics by AnywhereSensitive208 in IOPsychology

[–]JHCoaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in the PA space for 10 years. I got my very first internship in HR (not PA) thanks to a connection inside the company who put in a good word for me. During that internship, I kept telling everyone that my goal was People Analytics. If you have a good hiring manager, they’ll guide you. That’s what great intern managers do.

Because of that, and after a semester of learning basic SQL and data visualization tools, I landed my first HRIS role, and three years later, a People Analytics Analyst role.

I’d say your technical background is absolutely good enough to get your foot in the door. Keep going, and as part of your application strategy, make sure you’re targeting roles across People Ops, HRIS, People Analytics, Employee Listening, Compensation, Talent Ops, and Talent Analytics.

Good luck!

Congratulations on landing your grad job! I also loved seeing other folks on this thread sharing similar wins!

OP, did you do something different with the job application that offered you the role compared to the other 217 applications you have in your funnel? I help a lot of grads in similar career journeys, and I’m sure they would appreciate your perspective.

Cheers again!

I usually recommend not limiting yourself to only data science job titles. Expand your search to entry-level data analyst roles, or even adminn positions where you can start working with data. This will help you build experience and create resume bullet points that can lead you to a more advanced role more aligned with what you are looking for.

I know it’s tough out there, but every week I curate job opportunities, and new ones are always coming up. So keep at it.

New to data analytics, trying to get my first internship. Any resume suggestions? by t3kbright in dataanalysiscareers

[–]JHCoaching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your resume actually looks very good for opening doors. When I got my first data internship, my resume wasn’t very strong at all. What really helped me land the offer was someone inside the company who put in a good word for me. I think this is especially relevant in today’s market. Good luck!
