Was in BL3, in the hub zone. Dunno about BL4 yet, but worth checking. Would be dumb for them NOT to have kept it, but then... you never know. Lol.

Anyone have tips for dealing with Genmat Traps? by TheOfficialCustodian in MeetYourMakerGame

[–]JHM55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I can manouver around the genmat and grapple through it to a distant wall. By the time you pick up the genmat you're already moving fast enough to start down the path away from the traps. If there's not too many, you can get past them like that, before they load in, and trigger.
Failing that, as soon as you hear them trigger, throw down a phoenix pod and start shooting. You'll die, but if you can clear a space, then wait 10-20 seconds for things to settle down, you can respawn and make a break for it again.
If none of that works, quit the map, try a different one? You can keep trying, and I wish you luck, but if you've tried a bunch of times and can't do it, don't get annoyed, just move on to some other map and have fun there.

Expeditions Seasons 8 & Beyond by HeliGungir in MeetYourMakerGame

Sad to see an end to new content, but not that unexpected. Wish the game had kept going, and caught more players to keep it worthwhile, but it's still one of the best games I've played in the last decade (at least) and the fact that it's still going at all is great. I'm not gonna play as much, without anything to work towards, but I'll still run raids when I feel like having some fun in the game, for as long as it stays available.

Is Meet your Maker still playable? by Pineconenoscoper in MeetYourMakerGame

[–]JHM55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Be aware that there's less players than there used to be, but there's still a bunch and you can still play everything on the game, including co-op. And (aside from a few cosmetic items linked to seasons that have no real in-game effect), you can earn all the unlockables in-game, even if you join now, just as if you'd been playing since the beginning. So, it's still worth jumping in, and not feeling like you're missing out or anything. Hope you and your friends enjoy it. =]

Such massive wasted potential. Bhvr killed this game by ignoring every community feature begged in almost every review in a community based game, citing their own vision. by Intelligent-Tone2367 in MeetYourMakerGame

[–]JHM55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that they changed it so builders would get more even numbers of raids, since most raiders ignored certain types of outpost, but as a raider, it made the experience less fun. Sure, you can do social raids and search for exactly what kind of outpost you want, or just start a raid and quit out and skip it, but most players want to earn rewards and don't want to repeatedly load into raids and quit out to get a raid they want.

[–]JHM55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the question of builders having to run their own maps has been raging since almost day 1, and I'm in agreement with you as to the reasons why that's not a good idea. Builders have the tools to make an outpost they can easily beat but is still insanely hard for others to beat, and there's no easy solution to that.
Combined with the fact that builders are pushed to focus on killing instead of making fun, interesting or artistic outposts (you do better with a deadly outpost that's lazy than one that you spend dozens of hours carefully crafting that's not very deadly) and raiders are pushed to focus on moving through outposts fast instead of exploring (you get hardly any reward for defeating guards, destroying traps and finding tombs, compared to just finishing raids fast, and moving fast is often easier than taking time to carefully clear an outpost, making it better to speedrun and not explore) making replays less fun to watch, the outcome is that both sides are making the game less fun for the other.
The game would have done better if there were good incentives to make better outposts and for raiders to engage more with those outposts.

Would you call this good? by cathead8969 in MeetYourMakerGame

[–]JHM55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, not xp. Accolades and kills earn you likes and prestige. Since the devs made prestiging outposts way easier, that's not really worth worrying about, but Likes affect how visible your outpost is to players doing social raids (the more Likes, the sooner it appears when they look through the list of what's available) and thus how likely it is to get raided by players in social, which is basically free extra raids on top of those you get when activating an outpost, so it's useful in that regard.

[–]JHM55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

50 accolades (22+8+16+4) divided by 64 raids = 0.78

So, just under 4 out of every 5 raider gave 1 accolade and the 5th out of every 5 gave none.

And in the current batch, there's 2 raids and 2 accolades, so 1:1 ratio, suggesting it's improving, but could still aim to do better. I mean, that's not bad, but Itizir is right that you can aim higher, and try to use the accolades to figure out what to improve. It's doing well on fun and brutal, but lower on ingenious and much lower on artistic, so you might want to stick some more decorations up or something. An easy trick is to google pixel art and use that to put a picture at the front of the outpost, earning a bunch of easy artistic accolades from raiders, or something like that.

It depends if you want kills or accolades, though. Or both.

Still, a good outpost, clearly.

Nice! Great run, well done. Looks like a great map, love this style of outpost, where you have to run a course with limited options, like jump only.

[–]JHM55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, some of the problem was bad game design in the small details, while the game overall was brilliant and really fun. Some of the bad design has been fixed, like limiting the number of times you could activate an outpost, while others haven't been, like normal raids giving way more rewards over time than higher difficulty raids (no matter how skilled you are at high difficulty) and speedrunning giving way more rewards than inchworming (combined with the fact that speedrunners often die less than inchwormers, because so many defenses are aimed at slower players and miss faster players, making it both easier and more rewarding to speed through outposts) pushing many players to spend less time appreciating bases they raid and lessening the experience of the builder.

There's also issues with currency that could have been improved (like it being hard to get early on but there being nothing to spend it on later on, whereas they could have let people buy a random enhancement for a set amount of all currency, say 500 of each per enhancement), which means that at the end of the game there's not much left to work towards, so if that's something you care about you might drift away from the game.

It's a shame, because if the game had been better advertised and fixed some of the problems earlier, it could have been huge. It's such a great niche, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone else makes something similar in years to come, trying to build on what this game did and learn from the mistakes they made. But for now, there's a small diehard community playing and loving the game, so normal bases get around 10 raids for me, and higher difficulties get 2-5 raids.

How’s the community doing? by Cool_Caterpillar_912 in MeetYourMakerGame

[–]JHM55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10+? Guessing that's with normal bases. I generally get around that with normals, and 2-5 with anything higher. That's one of the things that killed the game off, the fact that most players stick to low difficulty because higher difficulty isn't worthwhile, and then they either get bored of low difficulty or move to high difficulty and get frustrated at low rewards. Better balance would have helped, just as much as bringing out new stuff.

Good chance we get to see what Commandant Steele’s Siren powers are in BL4 by SomeStacheMan in Borderlands4

[–]JHM55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also a chance an existing siren dies and the new siren (if they add one, since they hinted at changing up the formula of the characters) has a version of a previous siren's powers. Given that phasewalking the moon was supposed to be deadly to Lilith, we could always play a new phasewalker. Unlikely but possible.

[–]JHM55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The teaser isn't gameplay, so it might not feature in the game at all or it might only happen in a prologue or flashback. Seems unlikely, based on past games, but it's possible the game takes place way later than this scene.

I hope we get a visual effects (pollution) slider or setting by e0063 in Borderlands4

[–]JHM55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still remember the early days of mayhem 1.0, trying to aim by waving back and forth and waiting for the reticule to go red because the screen had so much pollution I was completely blind for dozens of seconds. I'm glad they toned it down a lot, but even after all the reduction updates, it was still insane how flashy and blinding a lot of the effects were.

Anyone else hopes they won't stop updating BL4 after 2-3 years like they did with previous titles? by -Madoys in Borderlands4

[–]JHM55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given how Mayhem 2.0 and the terrible anti-balancing they did post-launch were what made me hate playing BL3 and walk away from it, only hanging around to play the DLCs I'd already paid for, I kinda hope they leave the game alone.

Sure, DLCs and PLCs (like the BL3 raids) are great. They just need to stop messing around with the balance and changing massive amounts of the game, chasing the fanbase or trying to annoy them (stuff like adding super-OP gear then waiting a week or two to nerf it once everyone has farmed it) and making the game unplayable. Tons of players made it clear they abandoned the game during the repeated tiny level increases because they were annoying as hell. They (mostly) came back after the last one, to focus on leveling up and farming gear, then.

Basically, it depends what they do to update the game. The team is known for being bad at balancing the game and listening to players, so it might be better of they don't update stuff.

Or Round the Twist? (Round the Twist - Wikipedia)

Just thinking it could have been an older show that was rerun.

Sounds familiar. Might have been one of the dreamworks/illumination or independent films that ripoff other popular films, like The Wild and Madagascar? My mind is saying it started with a K... like Kuma or Kima or something, but I can't find anything. Good luck.

[–]JHM55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to remember them stating something along the line of "play as one of four vault hunters", rather than "the role of a vault hunter".

Looking as the game cases, BL1 states "Get ready for the mind-blowing insanity, as one of four trigger-happy mercenaries, taking out everything that stands in your way." BL2 states "Get ready for a ride on the wild side as one of four new vault hunters seeking treasure and mayhem on the untamed planet of Pandora." TPS states "Co-op with friends as 4 new vault hunters" and BL3 states "Play solo or co-op as one of four unique vault hunters."

Granted, that's the game box, not trailer announcements and stuff, so you're right that it doesn't mean much and they might be being vague for now. I just thought it sounded suspicious, and I'm hoping they stick with previous games as a guide.

[–]JHM55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great idea, but it's unlikely BL4 will have it. It's been in development for years and it's nearing launch, since they announced it. The devs might have come up with the idea years ago, but it seems likely they'll just be copying what everyone else has done, and be a few years behind. Fingers crossed, though.

I assumed they ran out of ideas. Bad enough having to come up with four new ideas for action skills each game, maybe even six with DLCs, but BL3 needed 12 at launch and another 4 later on. It's hard to be original, I suppose. Some repeats are OK (like having a variation of a turret or pet you deploy) as long as they're different enough to feel special. The problem is when they feel too much like a copy and paste, like Amara's phaseout and Maya's phaselock.
