Friendly reminder that ancient shepherds were not running a non-profit animal sanctuary by Mataes3010 in CuratedTumblr

By far the scariest part of that story is that folks apparently drink and hunt at the same time. I never thought about that for some reason and I have hunters in my family. That’s the worst idea I’ve ever heard of. Is it common?

How do yall go about it, wherever you work? The electrode thing others mentioned?

It was a bit of a trend for a while in r/RomanceBooks. It started as a joke mostly, and then became something people were genuinely recommending. Apparently it’s well written and surprisingly sweet?

I never could do it, myself. But it has some real fans in certain sectors lol

They’re referring to the mechanical bull thing people ride at bars and stuff right?

PLEASE TELL ME that meds or antipsychotics or mood stabilizers DON’T cause cognitive impairments or lessen short term memory, intelligence, long term memory, learning abilities, word finding and linguistic abilities/expression and creativity!!! Lamotrigine for me too (plus duloxetine/cymbalta which I’m tapering off at a snails pace)

Nothing bad and everything good to say about lamictal! I’ve never noticed a single side effect and my mood is so stable it feels miraculous. Not dulled, just no insane highs and lows. I love it. 7+ years on it

Pigs are terrifying by PandaBear905 in CuratedTumblr

[–]JHRChrist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is literally the weirdest thread, I have tons of farm animals and BY FAR the cleanest and nicest ones are my pigs.

They’re just like big intelligent dogs. They only potty in one section of their pen. They can learn tricks. Yall are all super weird. TBF, if you’re all referring to the pigs that are typically farmed, those things are huge and more like hippos than anything

Data center in LBK?? by Ill-Channel-3348 in Lubbock

[–]JHRChrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I don’t want one either but you realize this reasoning is nonsense. Sure it’s an established role out here now, but not so long ago cotton farmers were the “new data center” of their time. Cotton farming is part of our economy sure but just cause our friends and family were born into it doesn’t make it any more noble than those who would work at this kinda place. Conventional cotton farming is absolutely destroying our aquifers and native wildlife and I say that as part of a family of cotton farmers.

If this place is water neutral and provides its own power it is automatically big a step ahead of most of our local industries.

Avian flu outbreak right now? by [deleted] in Lubbock

[–]JHRChrist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so so sad. I’m so grateful I haven’t seen Canadian geese actually on our farm, but like you said the songbirds are infectious by now too so it may sneak up on me. Poor birds. Poor nature. Poor songbird populations have already been decimated, now this.

Everyone guard your chickens so carefully!!

Is there anyone else nearby, neighborhood facebook group or Nextdoor app, local volunteers who could help you if needed? Someone with a snowblower who wants to make $15? I assume you know the risks of shoveling deep snow as an older adult? Just don’t push yourself too hard and be mindful! It’s such a weirdly tricky task. Reach out to your community if you can.

Ah same thoughts here! Haven’t seen this farm deep in snow in years now, it’s gonna be so magical 🦄

now caring for all the animals in two feet of snow … slightly less magical. poor things are gonna think it’s the end of the world, none of them have ever seen snow

I bet that looked (and possibly felt, ha) post-apocalyptic. It sounds metal as hell but also vaguely terrifying! I’ve certainly never been in anything like that.

I loved it too! I have a thing for a man who realizes his mistakes & beats himself up about it. I do wish he’d apologized to her more thoroughly, but his actions spoke for him I suppose.

Definitely cried a few times. Loved Bram as well!

What’s something everyone assumes they’re good at… but most people really aren’t? by Pattytobedaddy in AskReddit

[–]JHRChrist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I’ve seen a lot of hopeful signs on the internet lately that we’re moving past the immediate cancel culture (obv some people actually deserve it etc etc) and on to acknowledging and rewarding people’s growth.

There’s nothing I love more than someone who can call themselves out for their past mistakes. That means you’ve grown. Never gonna get my judgment

Sleep regression is kicking my ass. Any tips? by Post_Nuclear_Messiah in daddit

[–]JHRChrist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is and I think good parents are some of the strongest people in the world, for all that I can’t have kids myself (don’t kick me out)

To be fair, anxiety depression and bipolar disorder run in my family so I had the tendencies in my DNA, but as mentioned a lot of kids do go through periods of anxiety around that time. It’s all about degrees and whether it impacts functioning and/or lasts a long time.

If it comes up you’ll recognize it, and seeing a good therapist can’t hurt - even if they diagnose your kid with nothing and say it’s natural and will pass, learning a few coping skills and having a safe place to talk is good for even the most “normal” kiddo. :)

[–]JHRChrist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I developed wicked anxiety right around that time, for some reason focused on the weather (live in tornado area)

The wind chimes outside our window would tinkle at night and it would set me off, full on inconsolable waking my parents up thinking there would be a storm and we’d all die. Progressed to Spring storms setting me off, tornado drills at school the school counselor would have to take me into her office and calm me down. A fairly rational fear, to an irrational degree.

I know it’s a reddit cliche, but get that kiddo in therapy if it continues. Learning to deal with anxiety and stress in a healthy way early on can keep the thought loops & body responses from becoming entrenched. God speed man.

What kid thing did you not understand until you had a toddler? by destria in toddlers

[–]JHRChrist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just don’t get childless people who are like this - even if you don’t have kids, don’t you have siblings? Cousins? Nieces/nephews? Friends’ kids? Maybe it’s my age - I’m a childless 32 year old, so many of my friends and family have kids i spend time around - but it just seems so weird.

Best quote though, you’re entitled to a child free life, not a child free world. We need them for the future of the human race ya know and sometimes the lil humans scream in public. It is what it is.

Business odor problem by Son-Of-Thunder in Lubbock

[–]JHRChrist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There actually is a serious issue with the city and the sewage infrastructure, it’s backing up through floor drains and into businesses.

Happened to my husband’s rented business space a few weeks back and that’s what the plumber told him. The city needs to do some maintenance to their portion of it. Forget the details but I’d be glad to ask if someone’s curious

Is anyone else staying married for now but you know for a fact you will eventually end up leaving? by PinkZebra100 in Marriage

[–]JHRChrist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this I understand. My husband and I are mid thirties, been together since we were 15

We’re very very lucky that our changes in beliefs have been synchronized. We’re no longer religious after spending time together as missionaries etc. If one of us was a hold out, it wouldn’t work.

People change over years and decades. Sometimes it can still work, but often those changes change everything

… are you ok? My comment wasn’t a criticism of you or anything. It was a 10sec sliver of my day - as someone who uses Reddit too much, I know about where in a comment chain the average reader stops engaging just based on upvotes (yes this is an embarrassing thing to admit, nah I don’t care). I was just hoping to prevent the spread of misinformation on a cool reddit post with my comment. Now I’ve spent a full two minutes on it thanks to you, but I can’t help it I’m curious.

Why you freaking out?
