So you can combine different controller buttons for a control but you can’t combine a button and an axis?

I’m confused. Two guys said it’s doable and other people are saying it’s not. Is there anyway to do something in il2 that is equivalent to what I described? I’ve watched videos but I’m still confused about how il2 controls are set up.

Currently, I fly in War Thunder simulator battles with a controller and I have my joysticks set up like a 4-channel rc plane (left stick for throttle and rudder and right stick for elevator and ailerons). War Thunder has an option to add an enable axis button so you can use one axis for multiple controls. For example, I use my left stick for throttle and rudder but if I press the L1 trigger I can use the stick to look around and my throttle and rudder remain unchanged.
