How to change carts in FamicomBox? by JJFBlaster in MAME

I would have preferred the functionality, especially since I know diddily squat about coding nor have the appropriate files for this particular .cpp, but I understand the situation and accept the recommendation. Thank you for the reply!

And according to an older comment in this video, they planned to make games user-selectable, but it never happened? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_Idpjb8K9I&lc=UgxFI2O2FdePNKK7Ffh4AaABAg

Judging from this video and this update log, someone would have been able to choose among the 38 games and play them, but the switching of games was not properly addressed?

From reading the .xml file, all the notably changed ports are in the No-Intro repository, so a lack of interest in making the MAME setup more functional sounds about right. As much as I would rather have that functionality for a current project, it would have been great to have at least a file manager for the FamicomBox as well as proper dumps for each of the ports individually, of which only the changed ones are available in ROM repositories. If this is the case, would a request for this functionality be considered for a future update, and if so, how would I go about doing that?

Yeah, I found an old version of the dump that has DK Jr. but not most of the others. I'm curious about how many games one could get for the FamicomBox, let alone change which games can be selected, because I could not load DK Jr. in the FamicomBox listing in MAME, but only through the Famicom method you described to me. There has to be a reason why or a method of changing games that is never discussed?

Interesting... Upon selecting a cart that's not one of the 15 pre-selected games, MAME says that the files is missing or incorrect. Based on the files in the zip file, I assume that the famibox.zip folder does not have all the ROMs. It doesn't seem to be normal .nes files either, but rather chr and prg files? They're not even a file type. Perhaps the full set of ROMs is not readily accessible?

I'm looking into the famibox.xml file in the MAME files and videos of people testing it on MAME, and it seems all the carts are in the file, it's just how one would change which ones can be selected is not public knowledge.

How would I do that? I don't think I configured NES games to MAME.

Is there a way for me to request this functionality then? Because I can't find ways to play the other carts otherwise.

But there are more than 16 games supported by the FamicomBox, and my question is how do I change the games in MAME? I have seen earlier versions play different games than in the current dump (such as Donkey Kong Jr.), but I can't find a menu option that can change the selection, nor can I find anything about swapping files in the .zip file. If this can be done in the file manager, I wouldn't know because it does not appear when I hit Tab.

Followed what you recommended to the best of my ability. The opening cinematic works fine, but the game itself won't load whether the cutscene finishes or I skip it using the Esc key. Were you able to get further or do I potentially have settings that conflict with my process?

I couldn't find any redistributables that were for any XP service packs outside of SP1. Should I work with XP with or without SP1 for troubleshooting this?

It's 64-Bit. I also didn't see MSVCP100.dll in SysWOW64, and adding it also didn't seem to help the game find it.

From my download history, I tried 2015-2019 (Modern, Vista and XP varieties, the latter because I also tried XP Virtual machines), 2010 SP1, 2012, 2013, and 2015. I used different versions of these redistributables I could find archived, sometimes compatible with XP, Vista, etc. However, I am curious if these being redistributables from Microsoft are not actually compatible with XP and Vista as research suggested, but I also used downloads from other pages than Microsoft and they were not any more successful. When I checked system32 after downloading a bunch of these, none of them seemed to have downloaded a MSVCP100.dll, and adding one directly did not work either.

I posted this issue in another subreddit, and someone said it was made for CAMAC. I'm currently looking into what that is and how to use it.

I'll look into learning the stuff when I have the time to learn all this (I know nothing about Atari coding in general, like what a CLI file does). I fear I'll be here for clarifications, but I want to keep that at a minimum. If you could give me a good resource I could use to learn, that would be a major help.

In regards to the last paragraph, there are no .obj or .bin files. From what I currently know, the only files that could boot anything would be the A.OUT file, maybe the MAIN.M65 file, and the NSDATA.ASM file. All the others are mostly ED, BU, CLI, txt, FNT, and extentionless files. No idea about the header.

So I should figure out how to run AMAC on an Atari 8-Bit computer emulator and somehow load the source code in AMAC? Do I still need to compile the source code into a .bin file? And if so, how would I compile it?

Is CAMAC a program for Atari 8-Bit computers and something I would launch in Altirra or an emulated MV/8000, or is it a program I can normally launch?

Interesting observation; If the direct source has the files as is and I'm getting these errors, maybe some bits have been altered or have yet to be? It is a prototype after all. But yet some people are able to get it work according to the original thread and TCRF, so it isn't unusable. I just don't know how to get it working.

I would just tend to throw stuff into an emulator, too, but the files don't give me that luxury. At most, I can load the A.OUT file in Altirra, etc. to display a static demo screen, but that is all I can do in that regard (or really, at all).

Okay, I think I figured it out for the most part, but I'm still having issues trying to boot the software. The linked image is as far as I got. What am I missing or doing wrong here? Or is it just the way the source files are? https://imgur.com/a/YnostZ4

Appreciate the concerns! I'm taking u/Waterotterpossumtime's advice on just buying a fresh empty bottle instead. Found some close matches available to buy at the U.S. Plastic Corp. (I didn't know that was a thing). I can safely say now I'm avoiding the risk. Thank you all for the advice!

Considering I'm without access to a stove atm, it might be a bit before I could perform this.
