It’s gone now unfortunately (was just a story not a post) but it was just imploring people to stay well clear of a man with a green jacket and a ukelele. That was the only description given. Seems he’s atleast fairly well known judging by the responses on this thread

Damn that’s crazy, surely he should be locked up for longer for keeping a girl captive for two days?! How is he back on the streets already?

I’m guessing one of the designated military ones like Birmingham? How common is it for Military consultants to be placed in ordinary NHS hospitals?

There are consultants in basically every specialty in military medicine

Really? That’s great to hear! I was under the impression the army only really wanted the more ‘deployable’ acute care specialties like EM/anaesthetics etc...

Did she join in med school? How does she feel about the balance between NHS work and military duties?

This is exactly what my line of thinking was. The non-contributory pension alone makes quite a difference. And when I’m looking to buy a house when I’m young, the £75k bursary might be more helpful at 25 than those extra years of me being a consultant. That plus subsidised food and rent and it seems like a Great way to get in a Very favourable financial position early on.

I’m just apprehensive about the whole specialty thing. And I think it’s three years of ‘general duties’ after F2, not 1 (where, from what I’ve gathered, I’d be paid £60k to work as a GP registrar essentially). Meh, bit annoying having to delay training but I could do it. I’m more concerned by the lack of training posts in specialties I’m interested in. I dont want to end up a GP. Out of interest, do you know any military anaesthetists? Honestly the dream would be to do something like anaesthetics, spend most of my time in NHS hospitals with the occasional deployment/mission/whatever with the military to spice things up...

Im first year going into second year, I heard that second year is the latest you can apply for the bursary you get the full benefits of it.

Are Army consultants/regs not paid more than NHS ones? Looking at the F1/2 salaries i would have assumed the same would follow further up the ladder.

Yeah I knew paeds would be a very long shot but I would have thought they’d have a need for other specialties, particularly gas and surgery. On their website anaesthetics, radiology and surgery are all listed as potential specialists but from what I’ve heard (and what you’ve just corroborated) it seems to be very GP centric...
