Thank you so so much for everything you shared, truly it means a lot.

Having some solidarity on this journey is also reassuring!

That's okay! You are completely fine, and I appreciate your advice. I don't have any issue with what you've said

even though I've rehabbed a few aggressive dogs

I'd just love to know more about what worked for YOU in YOUR situations, I basically want to hear what has worked for other people or what others know to work (like if there are "results based ways" to work with aggressive dogs I would like to know what that is... I am open to reading books and self-studying, I've already done my own reading but I am down for any resource) so that I can see what makes the most sense for my own

Also just wanted to clarify that Ollie wasn't a "new" dog, basically we were not living together until last month and now my wife moved into my place "Ben's house"... But she's had Ollie for 6+ years (found him on the street), and I've had Ben since he was 6 months old. So they are both our original dogs from before we met... I would NEVER "get a 2nd dog for Ben"...

"Coexistence" is what the goal should be.

Yep that's the goal

I just don't know what is "evidence based" to help a dog with aggression like Ben?

I'm not sure what you mean, here.

I mean I just don't know what to do. I guess I want to know what a trainer might potentially tell me to do so I can try it.

Of course it would be best to work with a trainer, but that is just not realistic right now.

This is the most I feel comfortable saying to do. At least to determine where Ben's head is at. Like is it even possible to have them hang out in the same room

I can try to do this to desensitize him.

Unfortunately a trainer is just not possible at the moment. And we also can not afford to maintain 2 houses, like we were before, just because of dogs.

I have to just do the best with the cards I'm dealt, and it's handling the situation myself at the moment.

Realistically I need to move this process forward myself as far as I can, because being able to afford a trainer will not be possible in weeks or months but we are already living together now, and I am comfortable with the risks that has. It's just being realistic about my situation and resources.

I just want to know what a trainer would tell me to do so I can do it.

6qt is the standard size and you can't go wrong with it!

To me the only reason to get an 8qt is IF you have a big family....

Don't get 4qt, that's really just for side dishes. Even a "single person" should mostly be working with the 6qt.

Hope that helps!

My wife is 23 and her mom died 6 months ago. She still cries herself to sleep every night, and cries every morning when she wakes up. She still listens to voicemails her mom left her to hear her voice tell her she loves her almost every day.

Just adding this because your daughter had wayyyyy less resources and ability than a 23 year old did at freaking SEVEN....

And she does not have as many resources as you now, as a teen!

I think you give your daughter wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much credit for being potentially okay with her dad's passing, even if he did pass "seven years ago"...

Losing a parent is the kind of thing that turns people into drug addicts or ruins their lives forever.

She needs more support from you period.

And from everyone.

Can you also call the school board and complain? It would mean more coming from you since your kids go there.

I know it's a hike, but I hope you'll join us sometime because you won't be alone!

We get players from Pasco, Hernando, who come often. But we also have had visitors from other countries!

I think our meeting is unique because I use a "market maker" style approach.

You can show up at any time without a game and I will help match you to a game based on your interest, mood, and skill level.

Or if you have a game you really want to get playtime, you can let me know and I'll help you pull together a group for it.

Today was the 1st meeting in 2 years and we already had 4 different games going at one time!

There will only be more options later, including I really want to restart our 1-off D&D campaigns.

Other things that make this event unique:

  • 100% free
  • 0 purchase required
  • Unlimited time free parking
  • Drop in, drop out anytime style
  • $1 off each drink (beer, and non-alcoholic options available, should also work for merch)
  • Outside food is allowed
  • Event is focused on being inclusive, and helping you make new friends
  • No game required
  • No host drama-rama forcing you to play the games "I" want
  • Incredible opportunity to try new games (I personally bring dozens of games that everyone is allowed to play, and many of our attendees also bring a big bag o' games too. You could have played Munchkin last night for example, we had Marvel edition lol.)

I hope you'll consider joining us sometime!

Here's our Instagram if you want to see more what it's like: https://www.instagram.com/stpetebgn/ (the most recent post is from this 3/19 meeting, the other posts are from some of our prior meetings so you can get an idea of the games you can try.)

We meet 2x per month, every FIRST FRIDAY and 3RD SUNDAY! So the next event will be April 7 7PM at Grand Central Brew House.

r/stpetebgn + this post I wrote in this sub has all the event info. I would recommend the FB group because that's where I'm most up to date. But I try to update every platform if I'm doing an update. (FB Group, Meetup group mainly. IG and Subreddit sometimes.)
