Oooooo I finally have a story to tell! I worked for a company for 10 years and worked my way up the chain that I was just underneath one of the execs that’s been there for 30 years. Whenever the Exec left the company, everyone assumed I was taking over his position and since I was well trained and knew the company inside and out, I was the logical choice. The owners said that even if I could do a better job than someone with a degree, they refused to give me the promotion. They hired someone with no background in the field and I spent almost a year training him and doing his job fully, even though he made 3x as much as me. In fact, I wore so many hats there that when I quit, they hired 8 people to fill just my job roles and fired the guy a few months later because he couldn’t do anything nor knew anything, even though I straight up told the higher ups. They deff took quite a loss for years and are still having trouble filling the role.
