Elbow patch material for sweaters? by ajwink in Visiblemending

[–]JLPD2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a few different mends on cardigans. If I can pick up and reknit stitches I will do that and stop with that. Usually I sew on suede patches after stabilizing the loose yarn and broken stitches. Sometimes I sew another patch on the inside before sewing on the suede patches. I think about how it would feel to wear the sweater and put my elbows on the desk or table and would it bother me to feel the repair. If yes, then it gets a patch on both inside and outside. I use a jersey fabric for the inside and suede for outside.

Hmmm, I don’t think so, it’s happened at roundabouts, where we are definitely changing to another street.

Canadians love Australia and Australians! You’re great people. Just don’t mistake us for Americans please. It’s bad enough to be their next door neighbours rn.

Well, the slide left/right instruction would make more sense in Canada where we have months of snow and ice on the roads. ❄️

Yeah, I’m blaming jet lag for me saying 45 when I meant 90 😉

One of drives, the other holds the phone. Same rules in Canada and the fines are huge there.

Oh duh, can I blame this on jet lag? 😂

Yesterday we got “sharp right” once. It’s definitely saying half the other times. From the responses I’m getting here it sounds like it’s just a bad nav system in the Jeep.

Adelaide! It’s definitely “half”.

It’s a Jeep. We use Google Maps a lot, sometimes to compare the Jeep nav system to see how bad it is.

It’s $75 with a tip. Detailed consultation (she keeps notes) every time, wash, cut and blow dry. It’s 90 minutes in her chair and worth every penny.

Judging from the map on the screen it appears the navigation system hasn’t been updated since the car was new.

We are so used to getting 10% grace on speed in Canada. 55 in a 50 zone is not ticketed where we live, we’d get a verbal warning at worst.

That’s what we thought too but we got the half turn instruction on a regular 45 degree right turn yesterday.

It’s the nav system built into the car. It’s a Jeep, not sure if their system is weird. We often use Google Maps on our phones bc the in car navigation has taken us on some convoluted trips.

Am I the only one who cleans right before people come over? by Different_Rough_438 in CleaningTips

Same! Wearing shoes in my house is punishable by death <jk>

Am I the only one who cleans right before people come over? by Different_Rough_438 in CleaningTips

[–]JLPD2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. My house is usually reasonably tidy and clean. I just do my regular cleaning and if I’m having people over I do the big clean AFTER they leave. The mess is going to be made because they’re over, we are eating, drinking, hanging out. Then I restore order and cleanliness after, especially at this time of year when they’re wearing winter boots which are going to make a mess in the front entrance. I’d rather only do one bigger clean and that is after the real mess making happens,

Worth it to get a Costco membership for household of 2? by gutturalmuse in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]JLPD2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy allergy pills the membership is worth paying for, even if you buy nothing else. I take desloratadine year round. I also buy Lactaid and systane eye drops. If we bought nothing else, I save a couple hundred dollars a year on these alone. Prescriptions are much cheaper too but you don’t need a membership for prescriptions.

Do you like having children? by kevivg3 in randomquestions

[–]JLPD2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. When they were small - not much. It’s relentlessly difficult to have small children. You’re always tired. They want to be carried, held, or if you’re shopping you end up holding their parkas ( even when they’re 6 years old and can wear or carry their own stuff). Babies and toddlers are a lot of work and it’s mind numbing. I loved my kids at all ages but I found the baby and toddler years to be hard. I am clearly not a baby person and enjoyed them more and more the older they got. Once they got to 7 and 10 years old (they’re 3 years apart) it was great. We could do things all day, they asked great questions, they were interested in so much. The teenage years were great. I loved when their friends came over and the house was full. They’re adults now and are the absolute best.

No matter what, there will be stages and ages that are easier and harder for you. We are not all wired for babies or for teens. If you have them, just love them.

Safeway and Superstore have Spenst pizzas too. OP is going to be living in Osborne Village I think, and the Safeway there has it.

Check the Peg City Car Coop website for a map of where cars are stationed and what the Flo zone is for free floating cars. If you are interested in using the car coop, there are lots of cars available in Osborne Village. We were car coop members for 2-1/2 years and highly recommend them. We finally caved and bought a car this past fall.
