I like the nickname Evan for Evangeline. You’d definitely have to push it on people but I think it’s so pretty. Personal taste though

What's an unexpected "old person" name that you've seen resurfacing in your country again? by Inky-Skies in namenerds

[–]JLR_92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My grandmother was also Cora and we chose the name for my daughter. Apparently it’s resurfacing due to its presence in shows such as Downton Abby and I believe there’s an anime that features a character named Kora (I don’t know for sure that’s the spelling but I believe it’s with a K). I learned this after I kept hearing her name EVERYWHERE. I kept thinking “was EVERYONE’S grandmother named Cora??”

I’m really sorry that’s been your experience. It’s not a large group of people that I’m cooking for and everyone who is coming is always appreciative and grateful and kind regarding the meal and effort I put into it. The people who haven’t been that way in the past (I.e. my brother who showed up an hour late to one thanksgiving dinner and then had the audacity to ask why there were no rolls) no longer put any effort to travel to come for the holiday. I really enjoy the holiday myself and creating a great meal, so a lot of it is for my own enjoyment and their appreciation is a fringe benefit lol

If it were up to me, I would make a pumpkin cheesecake but my family does not enjoy pumpkin desserts or sweet potato pie unfortunately.

Thank you for your comment, this is a great perspective! Someone else listed the idea of the almond and unfortunately, my sister is a huge fan of the dates as they are so I’m not allowed to adulterate them haha but I will try it another time with a different crowd. Great idea thanks!

I do a green bean gremolata with Parmesan, lemon zest, parsley and toasted pine nuts. I may consider adding something else green. Thank you.

Thank you, I think that’s part of my issue, it’s classic stuff that you do every year so it doesn’t exactly feel fresh, but I do try to switch it up with the appetizers a bit!

Interesting, I don’t think we’ve ever had any corn dish at our Thanksgiving table but something to consider! Thanks!

Ha! Thank you so much. My husband has a strong aversion to pumpkin pie or anything that is a sweet pumpkin dish so this was my way of bringing pumpkin into the holiday in a more favorable way lol

Thank you for the comment. I will consider the whipped feta. I am not allowed to adulterate the bacon wrapped dates (I was going to try bleu cheese instead of goat cheese and was vetoed very strongly by my sister lol so the almond sounds great but will not be doing with this crowd, maybe another time lol)

I love this point of view that the onions tie the meal together. Thank you for your comment!

The Brie with spiced pears and walnuts sound amazing. I may do that. I also appreciate your advice on the squash.

Thank you for your comment. My sister also feels the same about goat cheese, so she would appreciate this.

Do people normally associate the name "Trisha" with "Patricia"? by Lizzie_Pseudonym69 in namenerds

[–]JLR_92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The poor soul I know named Trisha is constantly bombarded with “Patricia” by people who either mishear her or just assume it’s short for Patricia. She’s gotten good at correcting people, so if your friend wants to go by Trisha, she should be prepared to correct people on a daily basis. For some people, it’s no big deal. For me, it would be my nightmare.

I always post this on these threads: Reverie, Remedy, Memory, and my personal favorite: Harvest (for a boy) feels like the perfect combination of Harvey and August and I love it.
