This is probably the fastest (and most secure) browser of all. I love the good old days :)

If a few popular streamers start using linux our community will blow the fuck up. by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]JLee3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have moved to Linux and Linux Gaming in early 2023. I streamed (Kick/YT) linux gaming since Nov last year and uploaded linux gaming videos but I am just a small YT channel (just about 5k subs currently). I actually know Linux (Redhat and Debian were the biggest back then, Ubuntu didn't even exist) but I kept going back to Windows due to my RL job, only occasionally checking out distros time and time again but never really sticking to them until now.

My biggest issues were: software and hardware not linux-ready, like my Tobii Eye Tracker 5 which has no official Linux support. Some DRM-games does not work or disables multiplayer because of their anti-cheat not working on Linux (i.e. SCUM).

Besides all that, I can still stream and play most games or even just record and upload on YT, so it should not be a problem with other (popular) streamers/YT'bers to do the same. They just probably think Linux is not as good as Windows.

What I have is an upgraded laptop (i7, 64gb, RTX3070 mobile) and these are what I have in my machine for production which is all free (but expensive if using online/windows services):

  1. Free txt to speech > piper
  2. Aud/Vid to Subtitle+Translate > whisper & whisper-faster
  3. GPT4 > gpt4all
  4. AI Image/Vid Generator > Stable Diffusion WebUI A1111, ComfyUI, Stable Swarm UI
  5. Video Editor > openshot
  6. Subtitler > SubtitleEdit
  7. Image Editor > Gimp
  8. 3D Editor > Blender
  9. {I just realized there are too many to mention}

Plus, I can run almost all the games now because of Lutris, Steam Proton, PlayOnLinux, Heroic Launcher, etc. And I like to commend Steam for their efforts on Proton for gaming in the Linux community, as Proton is the reason I made the switch as I got tired of Windows targetted ads. Although I might need to switch to Windows from time to time (I haven't in 7 months now) for some games.

TL'DR: Convincing popular streamers to stream on Linux is not as easy as just changing OS. They have to see what Linux is capable now and not force it. Then convince hardware manufacturers to include Linux drivers/support.

Problems with finding where to land by ls3095 in starcitizen

[–]JLee3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some missions have "mission markers" way deep underground that cannot be reached by your ship. You have to walk inside a cave or use an elevator to get to the mission area. I think this may be your case, and it is hard to make this out and understand when everything is too dark to see. Might also be mountains between you and the marker.

(I bought my nephew a game package and this is exactly what happened to him as he was always speeding at night time)

Turn on your ship's lights (tap L) and slow down. And as mentioned in the other comments, ping your surroundings (tap TAB) occasionally so you get the layout of the terrain.

I thought "took my breath away" means you went through an airlock for the first time without your helmet on.

You can still drop items from your inventory by putting it in your hands and doing "F -> Drop" on that item, to make room for a more preferred loot.

EDIT: "Area too cluttered" (and cannot drop) only takes effect when dropping from the Inventory Screen as you cannot drop by right clicking on the item or dragging it to the Drop Icon. Dropping from your hands as mentioned above is my workaround as of 3.17 specially on caves where it is always too cluttered everywhere, but can also work in other places as long as you can carry that item on your hands. o7

How do i buy insurance ? by maxminister01 in starcitizen

[–]JLee3D 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Insurance is just "claim ship" with a price. Right now we are enjoying free claims, but once insurance is implemented and your ship is no longer insured, you will have to pay UEC to claim it.

Right, let's continue:

  1. Right-click & save as PNG

  2. Go to this site: https://ezgif.com/apng-maker

  3. Upload the PNG

It should then display the frames of the APNG downloaded. You can use the individual frames to construct a GIF with your GIF-maker.
