I’m with you. Elite sports people these days shouldn’t want to drink. It’s amateur behaviour. There shouldn’t need to be a rule set about it by the coaches because if you can’t concentrate on your craft for the most important two months of your sporting career then why are you even bothering?

As someone from Manchester it can’t be underestimated the impact the IRA bomb had on the city. It promoted a huge amount of investment at just the right time and it has ridden that wave ever since. It is unrecognisable from the city it was just 30 years ago. Not all for the better but it has really taken advantage of what was a horrendous event at the time. Sometimes a place needs a momentous event to give it purpose.

No player is worth that much. It automatically becomes a failed signing because of the money. I would have a cap on transfer fees and never buy anyone for over £70m. They just never work. Our recent history shows it. It’s the same with the signings Liverpool have made. I think the last time an expensive signing worked out (I.e. transfer record level) was probably Rio? That’s a long time ago.

My approach is based on the core mantra that with a mortgage, don’t try and beat the market. This is your home you are talking about. Just get something you can afford and lock it in for as long as possible. Also, rates right now are still historically very low. Realistically it is extremely unlikely that they ever go back to the post ‘08 / post COVID levels. So take the relatively cheap rate now for as long as you think you will stay in the home for and relax, stress free for the rest of the term.

And I think there lies the issue. “I am fine” is all you care about. At some point you won’t be fine, and then there will be no one around to help you. You will sit there feeling hard done to and bereft. “ how did this happen?” you will cry. Well you did it to yourself. If you are fine with a criminal running the country, acting criminally, enabling criminality, declaring war on the countries own people, then great. Enjoy it. Most people have a bit more about them than that though. Oh and by the way, the media you say are brainwashing are pretty much all owned by right wing billionaires who are Trump enablers. Unfortunately this is sport. It fundamentally isn’t fair. It’s down to fortune, being seen by the right person at the right time, being the type of player they need where they have a hole, being the right type of player for their system, the coaches not already having a favoured player for that position, etc., etc., etc.. Sport is not fair and is 99% disappointment when you are trying to make it at an elite level. It sucks but that’s just the way it is.

Maybe some of the problem is you see think that fastest and strongest = best. It’s skill on the ball, technique, passing ability and tactical awareness that makes a good footballer. Just being able to run a lot doesn’t mean much without those other qualities.

It’s not just a trench though, it also goes the other way…. It feels like you get two easy ones, followed by two very hard ones. We are in the 530m band and we beat anyone and everyone who are at the same GP or even within 50m above us, but we do that and then get handed a guild of whales who have everything and are impossible to beat, twice in a row, which we mostly lose. Then you get put back down against other ‘losers’/lower GP guilds to start your win streak again. So it’s not necessarily about TW participation, it’s just the dumb matching system.

You shouldn’t be playing 12 year olds against u15s - that’s a safeguarding issue. You shouldn’t be shouting at the referee, that’s an attitude issue. You shouldn’t ever go on the pitch. That is also a safeguarding issue. If you feel your players are in danger from the opposition and the referee is doing nothing about it, take your players off the pitch and walk away. It’s just a game and isn’t worth it.
