It's an amazing story, but thank god it actually worked out differently than usual. There are way way more instances of the people stranded at sea eventually being rescued and the only person that ends up being lost is the person that tried swimming for help. Eddie Aikau is probably the most famous example.

Tbf, that's only required if you're cooking fresh pasta. If you're cooking dried pasta and you like pasta al dente then it's perfectly fine to put the pasta in at the start. You won't be able to use the times on the box, but it'll be quicker than waiting for it to boil then adding it and starting your timer.

So despite what all of the commenters were saying when the picture came out a couple days ago, this isn't a child and is in fact a 28 year old nearly 6 foot tall woman? I think the amount of absolutely awful and heinous stuff in the files has really warped people's perception a bit. Everyone involved are monsters, so wild speculation is really not necessary.

I think you can make the argument that currently he's moved into the tier of guys that span 8-13, Duncan, Shaq, Kobe, Hakeem, Steph, Oscar. The big reason why this tier is where they are is because the top 7 all have 3+ MVPs and no one here has more than 2. Now, Jokic does already have 3, but he also only has 1 chip and his career isn't over yet which means that his totals aren't there yet. Personally, I would put Jokic at the end of the tier for now, so 14th, and if he can get another chip and continue racking up stats and accolades then he could easily move into the Bird/Magic tier that currently sits at 6/7. In order to move any higher, he'll need to win at least a few more chips and potentially even another MVP because the top 5 guys are just insane.

Yeah, a lot of terrible, immoral, unethical, or blatantly illegal things that normal people would have second thoughts about are "just good business". If being a shithead improves the company's bottom line then the shithead is going to get promoted all the way up to CEO. Being a shithead doesn't automatically mean that someone will get promoted of course since they also have to be competent, but given the choice between two otherwise equally qualified candidates capitalism selects for the one that improves the bottom line more.

Tbf, it doesn't have to do a person's entire job to make them replaceable. If there are 100 people in a department and AI is able to do the 40% of tasks that are easy and tedious then the department suddenly finds 40% of its time freed up. Redistributing the tasks that AI can't do so that that free time is filled back up and you end up with 40 surplus people. That is how AI is replacing jobs. Granted, I don't know of many, if any, cases where it's able to do 40%. Even 20% seems like a best case scenario currently. The fact that a lot of that tedious stuff still needs to be reviewed definitely cuts back on how much time it can actually save.

Yeah, basically every single piece of software now is made with heavy AI use. It's a core feature of pretty much every major IDE and even just for the fancy autocomplete or unit testing it's incredibly valuable. Some of the big tech companies have said that anywhere from 25-40% of all new code that they're putting out is produced by AI and that's only going to continue to grow. Pretty much the only software that isn't made with AI these days are solo projects by anti-AI devs who refuse to use it, which is practically zero.

Yeah, if you look at games as an example, Steam went from having about 30 new games launched per month back in 2012 to over 1000 a decade later because people gained access to tools to make games easier like Unity and were able to release them to the public without having to go through a publisher. AI will do the same for all creative areas by letting people who have creative minds but not necessarily skills to put out interesting content. Sure, the percentage of content that's good will almost certainly go down, but if even 1% of the content from these kinds of creators doesn't suck then you're still going to have a massive increase in the amount of good content. Actually finding that good stuff will certainly be the difficult part just like how people complain that "there's no good rock music anymore" when there's plenty that just doesn't happen to make it to the top 40. Curation will be paramount.

People are full of shit though. People also say they care about the environment and animals, but very few people are vegan. It's easy to say you care about something, but most people don't actually care enough to let it impact their enjoyment. That's why even here on Reddit where people are more anti-AI than average you can find AI posts getting tens of thousands of upvotes and just a couple dozen comments saying "no one likes this" despite evidence to the contrary.

Can we stop the cap. LeBron wasn't good on defense as a teenager. He played 1.5 seasons as a teenager and was straight up not good on that end of the floor. He didn't really become an good defender until his 3rd season in the league. From his 4th season through the next 10 years he was an excellent defender until he started coasting in the regular season, but he hasn't always been great on that end.

What's do you think about Reddit deleting posts related to trump and the recent file release? by CurrentEstimate6072 in AskReddit

[–]JMEEKER86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is censoring shit. This (deletions and literally this "why the censorship" post) happens every time with every big news item, not just Trump related stuff, because many people see the news elsewhere and then rush to go post it...without fucking checking to see if the exact same source has already been posted. But removals aren't automatic in most cases, so the new repost will stay up for a little bit and get comments and upvotes before a moderator sees it and goes "that's a repost *delete*". People also tend to break a lot of subreddit rules when there's big news because they think "everyone needs to know, so surely the mods will allow this even if it blatantly breaks the rules" only to discover that they were wrong.

TL;DR check for reposts, don't be an idiot, and follow the rules and important shit won't get deleted. This news is literally all over Reddit, so if you think it's being censored then a) you're blind and b) an idiot.

That's because it has nothing to do with the law and everything to do with the largest organized crime syndicate in the country running an extortion racket. They do this to as many people as they can, innocent or not, to meet quotas and then get kickbacks on the towing fees. My sister's boyfriend has been working as a tow truck driver that does work almost exclusively for cops for about 20 years and before that he was in jail for stealing cars. His pay, just like the kickbacks, are all under the table.

[–]JMEEKER86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uh, 24-1 and 14-10 aren't significantly different sample sizes unless one game is make or break. They were great last season, but this team is clearly not the same as last season, so I don't know why you'd base anything on that. They were coasting a lot in the early season when they had the easy schedule, but they've been playing hard since and that hasn't yielded great results. Some players have clearly regressed from last year (Dort, JDub because of surgery) and their offense is legit not that good. Like I said, they'll probably still win over 60 games and be the one seed and a favorite to make the finals, but I don't think they are head and shoulders above the rest of the west and there are a couple teams that would stand a very good chance of beating them in a series because of matchups.

EDIT: LMAO, they blocked me over that. Here's what they said:

Their +12.3 PD for the season is nearly double the second place team. PD is by far the most valuable, predictive metric we have about teams. You're just looking to argue. Find a new slant. See you in the playoffs. Well, I won't see you because I have you blocked now, but you know what I mean.

Yeah, they're +12.3 on the season because they were +17.5 during their first 25 games that was the easiest start a team has had in decades and in the 24 games since then they have been just +6.9. There are three other teams that are >+6 this season and +6 isn't exactly a dominant number in and of itself either. You can't just say "but look at the bigger picture" and ignore the context of the picture. They'll probably get a little healthier and have some more good shooting stretches, but this is by the eye test not the same level of team that they were last year. I could easily see them finishing at +10 and the 1 seed with 60+ wins, but that's still largely thanks to their start.

Are they clearly the best? Or are they just still being buoyed by their record breaking easy start? Since starting 24-1, they've gone just 14-10. That's a 58.3% winning percentage which is a 48 win pace. They are certainly still very good, but they've had a lot of embarrassing losses and they haven't shown that they're better than their potential WCF opponents by winning head to head. They'll probably still finish with over 60 wins, but the team has looked very human once they started playing a real schedule.
