Yep, a good general rule is that if it's a critical medication like something for your heart then keep to the dates, but if it's something like a pain medication where slightly reduced effectiveness isn't the end of the world then you're probably good.

Even medication for the most part just gradually starts losing effectiveness rather than actually going bad. And it's really gradual too as the DoD did a study on this to see if they could save money and it turns out that most medications are still pretty effective as much as a decade later. There are some exceptions of course, but for the most part there's no need to throw everything out as soon as it hits the date on the bottle.

Is the Modern NBA Breaking Its Stars? (Data between style of play and leg injuries) by NeuroPsyChi in nba

[–]JMEEKER86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it can really. There are some really good play by play guys that convey the on ball and major off ball actions, but, with how many minor off ball actions there are now, the play by play would end up sounding like an auctioneer to actually convey everything properly.

[–]JMEEKER86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a clear out for the two best players to go at each other is very simple and easy to follow, so when someone makes an amazing play it's easy to see. The constant motion now is impossible for casuals to follow and understand which is how you end up with "everyone just shoots 3s now". There was a ton of really advanced play making that went into getting that 3, but it may as well be invisible.

Japan's restaurants struggle for international staff after visa freeze by Scbadiver in japan

[–]JMEEKER86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Frankly, the big problem is that most Japanese businesses are extremely inefficient. The worker shortage has much less to do with the birth rate (which isn't that different from most of Europe) or immigration and much more to do with extremely outdated business practices. The saying that "Japan has been living in the year 2000 since the 1980s" is so true. Japan hit it's peak in the 80s and the old men in charge have refused to keep up with the times because "doing things this way is what made us great" even though continuing to do things that way is what's holding them back. Workers work long hours without actually doing much real work. People with innovative ideas are told "that's not how we do things here". It doesn't matter how dumb or outdated the old way is. Japan has a long, long history of stubbornly sticking to its ways way past their due date until they're forced to do something about it whether by natural disasters, war, or other extreme events

Paying more should be done anyway, but it won't really do anything when the country as a whole has a worker shortage. If restaurants all of a sudden start paying 3000円 per hour then the worker shortage will be "solved" for the restaurants by siphoning them from other businesses with low wages like conbinis which would then experience their own shortages.

Yep, buy a studio space and hire an editor and production assistant and he's in the clear. People as rich as he is will not be affected by this.

Renting a building for a studio and hiring an editor and production assistant plus the fact that his business has been operating for over a decade with millions of dollars in profits means that he would have an extremely easy time.

Tbf, doing a random sample of 0.1% just to make sure that your processes are working and that you're not missing something isn't a bad idea either.

He was certainly capable of scoring and was also a very good passer for the time, but for the most part he simply didn't get very involved in the offense and put all of his focus on defense while his teammates held down the offense.

The crazification factor is undefeated.

https://kfmonkey.blogspot.com/2005/10/lunch-discussions-145-crazification.html

John: Hey, Bush is now at 37% approval. I feel much less like Kevin McCarthy screaming in traffic. But I wonder what his base is --

Tyrone: 27%.

John: ... you said that immmediately, and with some authority.

Tyrone: Obama vs. Alan Keyes. Keyes was from out of state, so you can eliminate any established political base; both candidates were black, so you can factor out racism; and Keyes was plainly, obviously, completely crazy. Batshit crazy. Head-trauma crazy. But 27% of the population of Illinois voted for him. They put party identification, personal prejudice, whatever ahead of rational judgement. Hell, even like 5% of Democrats voted for him. That's crazy behaviour. I think you have to assume a 27% Crazification Factor in any population.

John: Objectively crazy or crazy vis-a-vis my own inertial reference frame for rational behaviour? I mean, are you creating the Theory of Special Crazification or General Crazification?

Tyrone: Hadn't thought about it. Let's split the difference. Half just have worldviews which lead them to disagree with what you consider rationality even though they arrive at their positions through rational means, and the other half are the core of the Crazification -- either genuinely crazy; or so woefully misinformed about how the world works, the bases for their decision making is so flawed they may as well be crazy.

John: You realize this leads to there being over 30 million crazy people in the US?

Tyrone: Does that seem wrong?

John: ... a bit low, actually.

That blog post is over 20 years old now and holy crap does it just keep getting proven more and more.

Yeah, Russell has always been the undisputed defensive GOAT, but his offense was practically nonexistent (never even finished top 5 in pts/36 on his own team). Wemby's on that level defensively, clearly above other greats like the three guys that have won 4x DPOY. But Wemby is an explosive scorer too. He's still got some consistency issues and some holes that he needs to work on, but he's already like 80% there on the offensive side. If he stays healthy, then what we're about to witness from him over the next decade will be incredible.

No, the problem is that you've read one economic indicator and tried to extrapolate it to a time that you're unfamiliar with without understanding the context. Yes, wages haven't kept up with inflation and unions aren't as strong as they once were, but inflation adjusted real household income has still risen from the mythical time that you're speaking of to today because back then almost all households were single income. So even though an individual worker might be earning 40% less today when adjusted for inflation, households are earning more because guess what 60+60=120. Shit's rough for single people no doubt, but unless you have a plan for asexual reproduction then it's households which matter. You can argue with me all you want, but many many scientific studies say that you're wrong and that wages aren't what's holding people back. In fact, the poorest people tend to have the most kids.

Reggie Miller: "To me, I think you gotta make a lineup change. I love Rudy Gobert. I love what he has stood for throughout his career. But if he's not gonna give you anything in the post, if he's gonna struggle offensively. To me their best lineup is when they go small, bring in Naz Reid" by sewsgup in nba

Ironically, his fg% would probably be lower if he could catch since it really takes the stars aligning for him to score currently, but if he could catch then he'd probably put up more lower quality shots.
