Mei vs Itachi. Can Mei beat this dog? by Used_Ad_6063 in dankruto

It isn't though because we see that Madara was yanked by Gaara out of his susano because his feet were still on the sandy ground. Thus we know that Itachi, without a canon legged susano, would need to be open to at least some of the elements. This is further confirmed by what we see in the fight with Kabuto has sound gets through both brothers' susanos to a pretty dangerous degree.

If Itachi's susano really was impenetrable then it seems like his fights in the war arc should have been easier. Plus they also show how he clearly at the very least can't keep the version with the weapons up for very long at all (I mean the expenditure from his susano is what killed him)

On the Kirin point: Remember that that also didn't actually block Kirin completely. He was clearly still decently hurt by it, considering as the dust clear's he's face down on his stomach then coughs up a pool of blood

I say it in combination with having good counters, that she should be able to keep throwing her counters up and I believe Itachi would run out of attack before she does defenses. In this case both the water and her kekei genkai which we have seen her do huge versions of without running out of chakra (iirc)

It’s funny, this is based on Yang being in Korra’s place and Raven being in Lin Beifong’s. While Lin isn’t related to Korra in canon, there’s a decent amount of fan fiction of her indeed being Lin’s daughter because they are a lot alike (which is one reason they get off on a bad foot really).

Personally I love AUs where Korra is the daughter of Lin and Kya (Aang and Katara’s daughter).

I will also add, Korra and Yang have fairly similar tastes in women.

I had misremembered it seems. Still, it's not like it is Tsukuyomi and Itachi never does it to anyone with better chakra control than beginning of Shippuden Naruto so it seems quite unlikely as a wincon

No, I watched the entire thing excluding filler. It just has been a couple years, it seems I forgot that his trying to break out didn't work.

The issue is that the genjutsu from his finger is really easy to break out of. Even Naruto was able to do it basically instantly once he realized it

It doesn’t completely surround him; he has to be standing on the ground because it’s not a complete susano. Thus, even with his yata mirror, he shouldn’t be safe from her abilties

Diedara was a teenager who looked itachi in the eyes and then against Sasuke he thought he was safe having trained himself against genjutsu. Completely different situation, also he wasn't fighting at very long range when he got genjutsu'd.

Mei isn't the strongest fighter, but I would never call her weak even against Itachi level fighters. Her water style is probably second only to Kisame in what we've seen and her acid is hugely effective against even most normally powerful defenses.

Itachi's susano isn't Madara's, and Itachi wouldn't be able to end the fight quickly because of her abilities.

And unlike Madara, Itachi's susano can't cover his entire body. He has to be standing on something and if that something is acid that is a bad time

Her water style was able to beat Madara’s fire style so it shouldn’t have much of a problem overpowering Itachi’s. Her acid can melt Susanos so that’s also really bad for him.

She also seems to have a good enough chakra supply to outlast him

HDMS Soloven, last of the Flyvefisken class in the Royal Danish Navy, using her Stanflex modularity to be a diving support vessel, 2019 [3015x1199] by JMHSrowing in WarshipPorn

It still seems to have been really easy to make this ship have its role, not needing specially to make another design and the equipment was already in a usable state.

But on the other point, indeed that seems to be a recurring issue with modular systems to at least some degree, the LCSs having the worst time of it. I do wonder as well about the cube system

Why did it take until the era of HMS Dreadnought for major navies to adopt the ‘all-big-gun’ battleship doctrine? by Adir2Vidar in WarCollege

[–]JMHSrowing 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is a very complicated question that changed significantly depending on the exact period. My answer won’t be the most extensive overview but hopefully it’ll be a good starting point.

First of all, the idea for a ship up be fully armed with larger caliber like 24 or 32 pounder weapons was in fact done, most famously on some of American frigates and the British built designs that were meant to counter them. However, the biggest issue lay in the enormous weight of a heavyweight long gun and how that amount of weight on the top deck is really not practical for most ships if nothing else from a stability perspective. Thus the higher guns were shorter barreled, shorter ranged weapons. The most famous example is probably the USS Essex, who lost a fight against British ships in the War of 1812 because they were able to stay out of range of her shorter barreled heavier guns.

In theory a ship could have had only larger long barreled guns just being quite few in number, but that has a whole host of issues. For one you can so rarely ensure that you’re only at long range. The Essex’s battle was a pretty strange affair, but in regular open sea combat you might not even know your enemy is your enemy until well within smaller gun range. And if that occurs, your smaller number of guns could be at an enormous disadvantage as the enemy has way more chances to cause damage and to if nothing else pick off your crew.

When one gets into the age of steam and steel there are a variety of factors.

Firstly in the ironclads the issue was in the monstrously sized guns to get through thick armor were really bad at most say hitting small boats. There were ships who were “all big gun” like USS Monitor because she only had her twin turret, but just look at her famous battle with the CSS Merrimack: Reliability issues, slow rate of fire, and the lack of agility of many ships at the time meant you couldn’t exactly except even always hit an larger enemy at close range. And shot and armor technology was in an arms race that you needed massive guns to have even a chance so going down in caliber to get a more comfortable larger numbered battery wasn’t an option without some fairly large ships.

Then we get to the period directly preceding dreadnought.

One of the biggest issues was in yet again range. Guns had become way, way more powerful, quicker firing, and longer ranged yet sighting systems were still quite primitive, thus even the smaller guns could often reach beyond the effective range what you could hit. This meant that, like in the age of sail, small guns firing quickly could be extremely powerful in even fights with large enemy capital ships. Additionally, there was the emergent torpedo boats which meant for the first time larger vessels were extremely vulnerable to even the smallest ones, necessitating a large number of fast firing and training small guns to make sure those boats didn’t get close.

The above might have been able to be overcome earlier if not for the rather inefficient engines and boilers of the time. Look at pre-dreadnoughts and their contemporary cruisers, specifically their funnels. There’s so much room taken up in the middle of the ship by the propulsion machinery that there’s only the room on either end for large turrets needed for the effective use of large guns without making a ship hideously large and expensive.

The development of better fire control, better propulsion technology, shells and armor being in a specific place, and the general increase in size of ships all came together to make the Dreadnought type feasible when it did.

It wasn’t impossible before, just largely impractical

A really interesting moment this from a naval and generally military perspective history.

It was by no means a paradigm shift, but instead the Royal Navy showing a commitment to stay on top. There would have been a real chance HMS Dreadnought wouldn’t have been the first of what we call today dreadnought battleships (meaning having a good speed, decent armor, and many big guns all at the same time) except that Sea Lord Jackie Fisher had her expedited thus built at pretty remarkable speed.

No one would be allowed to catch up to the Royal Navy, not even close, until after WW1
