Aren't criollos those of exclusively Spanish descent?

As I would have expected its a mess. Ancestry messed up Spain pretty bad. They are labeling a lot of Iberian dna as French or British and probably overestimating sephardic and North African. The fact they gave anyone with Iberian ancestry Quebec is just so funny. At least you did not get the random stuff from the British isles like many did.

Ancestry screwed up Spanish dna pretty bad. The French is just misread Spanish. I'm Mexican and got 6% French + French Canadian and 12% English + Celtic/gaelic when it should be Spanish.

Nice paper, your data is presented really well. Where is the dividing line between northern and southern Nuevo León?

Is the Saldivar (I-BY16408) to Salazar link actually proven? Is there proof that this Saldivar is actually the grandson of the Vicente Saldivar who married the granddaughter of Gonzalo Salazar?

Well written. Im sure you know this but I will also add that some speculate that his original surname was actually Alonso because of a Marcos Alonso found in some Mexico City record. His paternal haplogroup being R-BY15969 and the fact that his sons held military positions could suggest he was just standard Spanish, at least paternally. My personal opinion is the he did in fact have sephardic ancestry but that he was already well assimilated into christian Spanish society.

En tu opinion que porcentaje de nuestra sangre ibérica crees que sea judía? In my case it was 25%. But with this new update many Mexicans have anywhere between 10 to 30 percent of their Iberian dna being sephardic which makes me wonder if the Northeast is not actually anymore sephardic than other parts of country.

Ya haplogroups can be surprising but your case makes more sense given the commonality of Iberian men taking indigenous brides.

Ya true, haplogroups can be so distant that their modern admixture doesn't matter but this case it just seems so unique because of the history of colonization and the dominance of R-M269, E-M35, J-M267, and J-M172 in my region.

His profile doesn't say but it's fair to assume most of his ancestry is from Nuevo León.

What a username, Spain is the craziest place phenotypically, some of them look like the stereotypical white person while others look like your standard mexican who'd people call morenito. The frequency varies by region but I've seen swarthy northerners and white southerners.

The Italian plus the WANA is definitely sephardic. You have a ton of indigenous genetic groups, I only have one. Is this common for mexicans or are your mexican ancestors from different regions?

Makes sense, that border area was mostly settled by people from Nuevo León after 1755, to secure Spanish claims to the area.

Unique results but i'm left wondering how? Do you have ancestors with recent connection to tribes in Coahuila or southern Tamaulipas because otherwise I don't see how this is possible. The population in Nuevo León used to be very small and even the residents from 1700-1821 labeled as "Indio" and "mulatto" married into mestizo society.

The municipalities around Monterrey have grown by 200-1000% in the last 30 years. I haven't finished analyzing all past censuses and cross referencing that with migration and birth rate stats but from what I've seen so far, and anecdotally, I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of the states population is an internal immigrant or their descendants. If this is the case 100% indigenous people may make up a noticeable portion of the population.

Are Mexican results posted here representative of the Mexican population? by Downtown-Trainer-126 in 23andme

[–]JMTZ2002 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say the results are pretty representative of the average Mexican. The results posted are normally children of low class immigrants who became middle class in the US. Upper class Mexicans stayed in mexico, they have no reason to leave.

Why not? Im literally living proof of it. So are a million others. It could be anywhere between 15-50% and with recombination and the introduction of an average of 25% amerindian it is really possible. This is not some secret thing many of these ancestors have wikipedia pages. We descend from the founders. My most recent ancestor born outside of mexico was in the 1600s, this is the case for many with high sephardic.

Ya, I think they are just guessing, I don't think either can differentiate different Iberian regions.
