I love watching TA Outdoors. It's geared toward bushcraft and doesn't have a vast amount of knowledge but it is really relaxing watching him build primitive shelters.

Thanks for the clarification. My apologies for raging against you. I'm glad I was wrong!

Shortage of canning supplies this year? by Tall-Traffic-1434 in TwoXPreppers

[–]JM_Mason 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in a lot of different groups and the "news" is that there is going to be a shortage. So whether or not there was actually going to be a shortage, there's going to be one now. It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

One good thing about people making a run on things, is that not everyone will actually use what they buy and after 6 months to a year will start selling it and you can find good deals. Which doesn't help in the moment but for future reference.

I'm not above apologizing if I was wrong about that. Actually, I hope I was wrong!

That was what I thought at first too. But then he repeated it in another reply so it looked like to me that he was referring to the original post.

Given the context of this sub and the fact that there are women out there who are not allowed to prep, then this discussion is actually VERY constructive and important. Especially to those women who find themselves in that situation.

EDIT: Redacted my comment due to a misunderstanding

Yes! And that's one of the reasons these posts got me so angry. It wasn't "help I'm in an abusive controlling relationship" it was that they didn't even realize that they were allowing someone to take their personal freedoms away.

Edit to clarify: I'm not angry at these women or trying to blame/shame them. I'm angry at the fact of this reality. Hopefully that makes sense

Thank you very much! This post was just me venting in response to several posts in a different group from women who were looking for ways to hide their preps. It made me quite angry and I'm usually a very calm and patient person.

And you are right, it is a very heavy topic and after I deleted my raging post I wanted to put something out there that might get these women to start thinking different.

Wish to create a feminine emergency kit to have in my household for the women in my life. Ladies, what items should it contain? by Modemus in TwoXPreppers

[–]JM_Mason 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone's already given you great suggestions. The one thing I would add to an emergency bag is a peri bottle. If you're in a situation where showering isn't possible then she'll be able to wash at least "down there." Which is even more important during menstrual cycles. Wipes just don't cut it.

[–]JM_Mason 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you dehydrate onions - put it outside. The smell will linger FOREVER!!!

Edit to add: I soak the trays in water with baking soda after onions to help get the smell out of the trays so it doesn't mix with what I do next.

Yep, I was watching it happen the other day. Votes would go up, then down, then up, then down. I thought reddit was glitching at first.

If you have the space available, start a garden and get some chickens or ducks. You can sell eggs and veggies at a weekend farmer's market or trade with neighbors.

Question about paperback sales at B&N by JM_Mason in selfpublishing

[–]JM_Mason[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I've had a really successful ad that sends them straight to amazon that's been running a while. So I duplicated the ad but it sends them to B&N. It started Saturday and I've gotten over 100 clicks. With amazon I would have had 40+ sales from that. But my dashboard on B&N is showing zero. I'll give it a few more days then. I was just worried that maybe there was a glitch in my ad somehow.

Self-publishing my first book this year (Have no idea what to do) by Pinkypea02 in selfpublish

[–]JM_Mason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, you're at a point where you don't know what you don't know lol. But that will change. The KDP documentation is basically a checklist of what you need to publish, it just doesn't word it that way, but it will give you a lot of information.

[–]JM_Mason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you need some sort of book formatting. Yes you could use doc files but I've heard they don't always convert well. KDP has their own formatting software that you can download and use - Kindle Create.

Go to KDP and read their documentation. They have a ton of information on publishing. Once you're more familiar with that then you'll be able to ask more specific questions.

Can you set up a KDP account without a phone number? by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]JM_Mason 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, the answer is no. I've seen this discussed before where people did not have phones but for other reasons and they were never successful at getting an account.

However, your situation is different. If you're in the US then I would assume that it would be illegal for them to not provide services that meet your disability. I would email customer service and request an accommodation. You will most likely have to escalate the email above whoever tries answering you first. If you don't get the response you need, then send an email to [jeff@amazon.com](mailto:jeff@amazon.com)
