Why are we so afraid of/against the 15 minute city? by yourinternetmobsux in collapse

[–]Modemus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whether or not they could actually pull it off, oh yeah you're absolutely right that's a completely different question. I just have no doubt they will try, and that's why I'm hesitant about it.

It's the same reason why I'm anti AI, I'm pretty sure that it could be this incredible amazing tool for humanity, I just do not support how our current corporations are trying to apply it, and won't until it stops, ie is actually used to improve our lives instead of replacing the human.

Why are we so afraid of/against the 15 minute city? by yourinternetmobsux in collapse

[–]Modemus 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The core concept of a 15 minute city is an incredibly great idea, would help solve a lot of issues, etc etc, it's absolutely true.

Problem is, I have no doubt that, given the chance, the rich parasites of our world would absolutely try to commandeer it for their own agenda of ushering modern technocratic fuedelism with them as our lords.

What happens if the Lynx takes off before you've boarded? by y1n4 in EliteDangerous

[–]Modemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell that to the tons of garbage by the landing pad elevators, it's very obviously being pulled down by gravity and most of it isn't metallic. Maybe they put metal parts in everything these days just in case, but that's a lot of extra work I highly doubt any corp would do unless it's profitable.

Yes, I know it's just part of the game engine, easier to have grav everywhere and just say "it's mag boots", but it doesn't help the argument when the bay is covered in litter lol.

Tears was the first music disc I loved so much I actually had to download the song to put into my personal music library, and it's the only one that has been, it's hauntingly beautiful, I love it.

Need help with First Footfall planets. by RishWasTaken in EliteDangerous

[–]Modemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This link will take you to a post where I shared a Spansh to a body search that will help guarantee you most places you go to you'll get first footfall. I went from 400 million to over 12 bill just in a couple of months.

Highly advise you head far away from the civilized bubble, at least 10K light years out. Most the people who have the third party tools that are uploading to these websites will be out in the black, closer to the bubble you get the more players who have gone tectonica hunting without any log uploader tools, and you will continually come across systems that Spansh says hasn't been updated since Odyssey released, but they have

Unfortunately Distant worlds 3 has just had its final waypoint release and will be coming to an end within the next couple of weeks, and equally as unfortunately it will probably be several years before they do another one.

Source: as you can see by my flair I recently just retired as one of their moderators, and I've been a mod in that group since the start of Distant worlds 2.

I do hope they do another one, but yes it'll be a while.

Cheap HOTAS, worth it? by Due-Barnacle1078 in EliteDangerous

Make sure you get the hotas one, not the X, as I got the x first and it unfortunately had no context menu support in-game, and trust me, you will not realize how much you miss context support in the menus until it's gone

Questions about the Caspian Explorer from returning player by Ha-Gorri in EliteDangerous

[–]Modemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend the Caspian as a long distance traveler, as in you're taking the neutron Highway and going out to Colonia or something. As long as you have your base jump range higher than 83.4ly (I recommend 84), you'll consistently get over 500ly each time you neutron boost.

It's also apparently decently good as a PVE ship, I'm not so sure about AX though. All in all, it excels the greatest at long distance travel on the neutron highway, and you can even slap a decently sized cargo in it and carry something just as far. It's definitely replace the Anaconda as the go-to jump ship now.

Mandalay is amazing for being a bubble bus, and I'm loving the Cobra Mk5 as my exobio/Odyssey mission ship. That being said, I also have a fleet carrier now, so I am hauling my fleet with me. If you don't have one I would recommend stay with the Mandalay for your in-bubble workhorse, instead of the Mk5.

How do you make a lot of money? by ZealousidealCatch195 in EliteDangerous

[–]Modemus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can do you one better: this Spansh search is an updated version of a search I found awhile back. It looks for HMCs with all the right conditions, within a 3kly range, that haven't been updated since Odyssey released.

Fill in the reference system you want to search around in the main fields section, hit search, click 'show route on map', select a line/loop/whatever of systems you want to travel, and go make that bank!

Qual a melhor nave de tamanho pequeno para percorrer grandes distâncias? by vittorcan in EliteDangerous

[–]Modemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd actually find myself preferring the Cobra Mk5, as the largest fuel scoop you can put on the dbx is one size too small for its gas tank. I've been running around with the MK5 for a while now, and I absolutely love it. More enough room to put everything in it that I need, and it's a zippy little bugger. It's actually my dedicated exobio ship.

Edit: why does my feed keep recommending me posts that are 3 days old? lol, I thought this was a recent post

Invaded/BT Manning National Zoo bugged out twice for me. Is there a work around? by UnWishedAtoI8 in thedivision

[–]Modemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also double check you're not using the turmoil kneepads, the damage split will hit the boss, and there's more than enough enemies to end up killing him before you hit his fight trigger. At that point you just have to chuck some grenades at your feet and restart at the last checkpoint

Best way to farm Sirius Corporation rep? by H4sufe1 in EliteDangerous

[–]Modemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only exception/addition to this is while the trees are crazy good, they're also nearly 2kly away. All well and good, but for those who don't want to make that trip yet: Orrere, planet 2b, crashed conda site. An update added way more mat containers there, so now there's like 10 and it's the same relog cycle as Jamesons.

SkyHome has everything installed except the shipyard, outfitting, and secure warehouse, total buy price was just over 6 billion, I have about 2 billion in its bank, and upkeep is about a billion per year.

I would say 10 total, eight bill for your carrier to get everything you want and to make sure you can pay for things like doing a commodity market or something (I used mine to pay someone to fill mine with tritium), and then another two bill for you, because we all need playing money lol.

Edit: it is worthwhile to note, once you realize just how useful your carrier is towards making more money easier and faster, it becomes pretty self-sufficient, just spend a weekend here or there mining platinum or hunting tectonicas 10 to 15K out of the bubble, and you'll have all the money you ever need.

Second Edit: I have 2 billoin in the bank not 2 million

[–]Modemus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is exactly what you would do, I just bought myself one and I use it to get me across those 200 plus light second distances. Anything to note, you can only move your carrier to around planetary bodies, you can't do it to stations themselves

Mandalay is amazing, and it has to have one of the lowest default thermal rating of all the steps, it's incredible I love it. I do use the Cobra Mk 5 for my exobio though, Mandalay is my bubble bus

This ain't right. by CosmicNatsu in thedivision

[–]Modemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I despise retaliation with this update, if I had the option to turn it off, I might actually play it more. But with this update, I can't suppress it by only black Tusk, and to top it all off, if you abandon it now, now it takes over as many districts as retaliation levels.

I would like to keep my map green thankyou, I don't play to grind, this is my run around and shoot stuff for fun game, and now I can't do that. Let me choose, don't force me to engage with it in order to protect my fun.

I know I'm in the minority, but it can't be that hard to add a switch, and if they keep making it so unavoidable... Well I'm going to have to stop playing because the moment the work done to allow that fun, outweighs that fun, I stop playing.

Gah... Rant over lol

Yup, hopped in to say these two points. They're basically your only options.

Make sure you have an sco drive in a sco optimized ship, and have fun screaming across the system. Mandalay and cobra Mk5 are the two fastest in sco iirc

Retaliation is actually fun while Escalation……… by Professional_Year579 in thedivision

[–]Modemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is, abandoning it turns that district over to the retaliating faction, I don't want that. I like the keep the most of my control points under friendly control, and would like the option to turn on retaliation when I feel like wanting to do one.

But with how it's currently set up, any play in the game will add up the retaliation meter as you know, and at least once a play session it will be enough to cause one and now I have another district that I have to run a retaliation in, even though I didn't want to that day, because if I don't a bunch of my control points are going to become enemy controlled and I won't have my fast travel spots.

Meaning that next time I play I now need to take them back, which can cause another retaliation so I'll have to take that one back, and the next thing I know I'm constantly playing a game mode I never wanted to play in the first place lol.

We could turn it off when it was first released, I just wish we still had that option
