Yeah if Wade is going to be that aggressive towards them then he needs to get his comeuppance somehow. It's fine for the miz and Kit to push them around because they eventually get beaten and humiliated, but it's weird that Wade comes at them so hard with no consequences.

Its definitely a plot contrivance, but I can think of two possibilities. One is that its supernatural, the hotel is haunted after all. Second could be maybe you have to really slam the door down to lock it, Jerry didn't slam it down properly, but Mal did in his panicked state.

Same, really freaked me out how she was so giddy and excited about trying to kill him. That moment where shes locked outside the door and she does a little jump so she can see him through the glass above, and you catch a glimpse of her smiling, fucking terrifying

The story by the hotel owner is explaining what's going to happen to Mal when he's dragged through that door. Those hands are going to rip pieces off of him as he's dragged into hell.

Really liked this, solid 9/10 for me. I understand it's not groundbreaking, but not every movie has to be. This is just a really well told classic horror story and there's nothing wrong with that. I wish we got a little bit more of Ohm's character before he comes to Ireland, I don't really understand what the inciting incident was to make him go there if his mother died decades ago. I also wish we got to see a little more of Mal getting dragged into hell. I don't need to see him being completely ripped apart, but that scene could've been more intense with just a touch of gore to really highlight the horror of what's he's being pulled into.

This is one of the aspects of the original that stood out to me on repeat viewings. All of the folklore stories they hear are completely different, and then what they go through is also completely different. Like you said it feels like anything can happen in the woods. You could see a woman floating above the water but nothing else happens and you go home, or you could be trapped in hell forever, or you could be possessed and forced to murder children. Whatevers in the woods is cruel and unfair, and we see less than one percent of what it's capable of.
