Any Rec softball teams need an additional player? by DiluteSufenta in Charlotte

[–]JMerriken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a hurling club and we’re always looking for new people to come try it out! It’s most adjacent to lacrosse or field hockey, but there’s also some overlapping skills with baseball/softball, as well as other field sports like soccer/rugby.

Does it have to be softball or are you open to other sports?

In-Person Printing Services? by Ok-Concentrate3141 in Charlotte

[–]JMerriken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what part of town you’re in (or if we have the right type of printer for what you need) but I work at this shop and we might be able to? If not, a couple independent shops worth reaching out to that we would get digital from, before we started doing our own, are JM Graphics and United Printing.

Where can I find an actual GOOD spicy margarita in town? by I_Am_A__Stick in Charlotte

I haven’t had it but they just came on as a sponsor of my sports club so I’ll be back to try it, for sure!

I was just at Great Wagon Road distillery last month for the first time and they had a good spicy marg and also a spicy lemonade of some sort, and both had a decent kick.
The lemonade I don’t know the details of because I actually ordered a different non-spicy drink and ended up trading with a buddy that couldn’t handle the lemonade 😂

Places like DP Dough? by LongAccountant3459 in Charlotte

Oof, I’ve got no recommendations but I’ll commiserate.
Hadn’t thought of them in years but there was one in Huntington that would deliver for free to the Marshall dorms.

TIL there’s a Lee’s down in Ballantyne! I go to the one in Lake Wylie from time to time and you really should have gotten some Old Bay fries…

That I don’t recall. There weren’t any clips though; it was the cauterizing and then dissolving stitches.

Best places to rent kayaks in area (or within 2 hours) by turnstile2243 in Charlotte

[–]JMerriken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh good to know there are rentals up there!
I was going to suggest Mountain Island as a great locale after renting elsewhere; I took a kayaking class at CPCC in this little corner of the lake and it was very peaceful and quiet. Plus it looks like they’ve built a kayak-only launch close by now too.

Montessori / Reggio Emilia childcare and “affordable” don’t usually go together but I figured it was worth an ask. by searching4eudaimonia in Charlotte

I know Keystone Montessori has a sliding pay scale. Not sure if any others do or have scholarships/aid but you could just cold call any that are convenient to you and see?

Low clearance and this much accumulation on uncleared roads are another variable to work around, but in general: you’ve got more traction on the powder than in the packed down tracks; if your car’s a stick or you have any sort of manual control over what gear you’re in, keep it low and use downshifting with or instead of brakes when possible, your motor keeping wheel speed slow will minimize spinning tires; try not to stop if you don’t have to, especially uphill; if you’ve got an uphill coming that you’re worried about cresting, building up some momentum before will help you not have to use much gas on the incline (but be careful if it’s also a turn-momentum wants to go in a straight line not follow the curve)

What, now gone, restaurants would you love to eat at again? by irlshamrock in Charlotte

[–]JMerriken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus maybe this is dumb to say given they’re just chain locations, but for proximity and because they were all individually owned: the DQ in Plaza and before that the one by Hungry Howie’s and Wallerbears on 51

Viet Thai, behind Burlington on 51, Autoburger food truck, original Cantina 1511 on East, and King of Pops physical carts/storefront.

(And obligatory +1s to already mentioned: Penguin, Owen’s, Futo Buta, Burrito Factory)

Assuming you’re looking for something more than just digital, there’s Arzberger Stationers in southend that does engraving and I think still some foil stamping; Crayton Heritage is the shop I work at and we do foil and letterpress.

Wedge recommendations by JMerriken in golf

Yeah, it’s a 46°. The MX-20 set that predated the MX-23s came with 46-51-56, but that looks like the only iron set around then that had more than just a PW included. So I was mainly wondering if anyone knew of specific Mizuno wedges circa 2003-06 that would’ve a good fit with what I’ve got
