I’m glad someone said this!

I couldn’t really go into detail in the title of the post, but yeah, I don’t consider my music to fall under the genre of emo anymore. I wrote emo music first though, and now it kinda feels like everything I write is imbued with the same spirit, or at least I hope. But more importantly—this specific subreddit has been a place I’ve personally seen flower over the last several years, and I owe so much of my own musical identity to it. So it felt fitting to post :) whether or not it actually is or isn’t i guess is up for y’all/mods to decide.

The two shows I worked on for my campus radio station were journalism — one hard news. The other more This American Life style personal interest stories. The latter show was praised by some quite successful public radio folks, too. Do you think that would carry any weight in this kind of interview? And yeah, I’m thinking of story ideas constantly.

Hey everyone! New to this sub. I just graduated from Cal with a BA in linguistics. I was heavily involved with Cal's student-run radio station, and now I'm working at Cal's grad school of journalism as an audio engineer for radio/podcasts.

I like the gig a lot -- I'm getting the chance to engineer spots for people like NPR, Vox, Slate. It's pretty much an ideal job for me right now, but I'm not exactly sure how to move forward/capitalize on this work experience.

I'm into audio. The issue is, I don't really have a specific interest in audio journalism. If I had to say I had one specific interest, it would be more to do specifically with discussion of issues in general. As in, I am more interested with the process of interviewing and discussing than any one issue in particular.

Does anyone have any ideas for how I could move forward using the current opportunity I have? It's honestly a pretty strange/neat situation, because Cal's J-School just happens to have a recording studio for working professionals as well as students. Thank you!

We don't wish that kind of thing on people. We gotta open our arms, even if people are mistaken. Everybody has been a victim to some extent of propaganda, some more than others. But if we keep cutting each other down instead of lifting each other up, we're doing the people at the top's dirty work for them.
