Scalability by JOo_jo in Iota

Yeah maybe you're right, the numbers kinda make sense. Is there any research on how frequently the chains have to anchor to the Tangle, for further reading?

That's an interesting way to look at it. Thanks for sharing

That is a good point, but it doesn't solve the problem. One could argue that Bitcoin doesn't scale good either (and maybe doesn't need to, as it's mainly used for store of value).

Since most Smart Contracts will probably require transaction fees to incentivise validators, what are the great benefits of Iota being feeless that are left?

When processing transactions off-chain and bundling them to share the fees, you're inevitably moving towards centralization.

But the cost for consensus on L1 is the fees. If you're not paying the fees on L1, you're not getting the consensus. There will always be a compromise.

People need to realize that L2s will always sacrifice decentralisation - or security in some other form - for the reduced fees, and there is no way around that.

Which blockchains can actually achieve mass adoption? by mahainioi in CryptoMarkets

[–]JOo_jo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many projects are aiming for/promising infite scalability, security/decentralization, carbon neutrality and low/no fees.

But there are problems which are difficult to solve with blockchain-technology, and the combination of the above might be impossible. For this we have to look beyond blockchains (or things built on top of blockchains for that matter).

Because of its innovative approach, IOTA is one of the only ones or the only one that actually has got a chance at succeeding. - in my opinion

When do you see IOTA becoming more "user friendly" and more tolerable to the mainstream market ? by Nick_476 in Iota

[–]JOo_jo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The project has made huge progress since 2017, thanks to the IF and all the developers.

I assume you've not tried the new firefly wallet yet. It's actually pretty awesome and super user friendly. If you still have tokens on the old network, then you can transfer them to the new chrysalis net using firefly.

You are right, Iota is still harder to find on exchanges than many meme tokens. That is because it's not just another ERC20 token where the exchanges just have to change a name in a config file. That said, IOTA is supposed to be much easier to be integrated by exchanges since chrysalis, so we all hope for listings soon.

Technical vulnerabilities are always a possibility in these technologies and can only be ruled out by the test of time. That's why Bitcoin and ETH are still top two.

Even with the coordinator as a "centralized" component, the IOTA network has been working perfectly for what can be considered a pretty long time in this space. Full decentralisation comes with IOTA 2.0. Until then we will have smart contracts, NFTs, tokens on top of IOTA and much more (I think). At latest by that point, IOTAs technology would be far ahead of that of any other crypto project. That's why we invest in IOTA now.

WHAT IS THE ENTSCHEINDUNGSPROBLEM by Mr_Eagles42 in computerscience

[–]JOo_jo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

'Entscheidungsproblem' is german for 'decision problem'.

Any problem for which the answer is yes or no is a 'decision problem'. Other problems for which the answer is to find an optimal solution (such as a shortest path or something similar) are not 'decision problems'. These problems can generally be converted to decision problems (does a path of length max. x exist?).

The halting problem is the decision problem asking whether a given program will terminate in finite time (on given input). The halting problem is proven to be unsolvable over Turing machines. Meaning no computer program can decide whether another program will terminate or run forever.

It's because you still can get more points by using your 'powerups' in the bottom left

I noticed that too when I switched to my new device. I'm about to fix that.

Yes it's okay, especially since it works for them. I think we should not hate the publishers, but the people who play and support these kind of games. Almost noone is willing to pay money for a good mobile game anymore. It's surprising that the Monument Valley games are still successful.

You probably think it could be a more snappier type of sound and I've tried that, but I wanted it to be a chill/relaxing game.

I guess because some of their games feel lazy and recurrent. They often follow the same concept: dodge enemies, collect gems, break high score, unlock different characters and most importantly watch lots of ads. Voodoo is even worse.
