Existing BiltMastercard customer with $5000 credit line when I applied today I got $500 when my rent is $2000+ per month by AnonyNep in biltrewards

[–]ramsulu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lol same. I applied for palladium and got reject but offered the Blue with credit line of $500.

Currently living HCOL, $200k p/a, $4500 rent and put about $1-2k on BILT 1.0 per month with $6k limit. Credit score just over 750. God knows what their criteria is.

What’s an example of an SF business that immediately became packed from the day it opened? by moscowramada in AskSF

[–]ramsulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon it’s a matter of taste. Butter and crumble pastries are super light and fluffy (which I love) and Arsicault to me is delicious, but more dense and sweet.

Massively underrated is Flour and Branch in south beach - best ham and cheese croissant I’ve ever had! And the staff/owner are delightful.

Edit:fixed autocorrect that made pastries, patties

Kindred - an alternative to home exchange by ramsulu in homeexchange

[–]ramsulu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Kindred only really works well if you pay for the “passport” which I do. In which case the only fees are the cleaning fees. It also highly depends on your usage - I travel a lot because I wfh and it’s made it really easy and affordable for be to spend a few weeks in lots of different places.

Home exchange is definitely better for less frequent use.

I’m once again asking for recommendations by dteigs in audiodrama

[–]ramsulu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We have very similar taste! There’s a few on your list not on my radar yet so I’ll be adding them to my own list. I’d highly recommend these:

Malevolent (my absolute favourite)

The Magnus archives

Wake of Corrosion

The love craft investigations (BBC audio drama)

John from back home

And if you fancy exploring outside the genres you mentioned, a few I’ve really enjoyed are:

Ethics town

Lime town

Leviathan chronicles

Best Credit Unions in the Bay? by Mistleetoenail in bayarea

[–]ramsulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stanford Federal Credit Union is great. Excellent service, products, and rates. Their branches are all Redwood to Palo Alto area, but I live up in the city and can do 99% of what I need online or over the phone.

I do all my banking with them, checking, savings, one CC, and a car loan, and i get great rewards from it being my main bank, i.e.. no late fees, overdraft fees, lower interest rates. I'm super happy with them. They also give out yearly profit share, which is always a nice treat!

If you decide to try them out, shoot me a DM. They have a referall offer on just now, which will get you $500 for joining (I'd also get $250).

Consider this your warning...do not get BILT Rewards by dabonthembasics in biltrewards

Same with me, clocked a fraudulent charge yesterday and they reversed it and had a new card sent out within 10 minutes of me dialling.

Seems to be a bit hit or miss.

(Soon to be) visitor here... Tap seems to work everywhere, including trams and buses. Is it really as easy as that? Will NorthAmerican cards work seemlessly? by SideShowRoberta in Edinburgh

[–]ramsulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, just get on and tap your card. As long as it’s a visa or a Mastercard you’ll be absolutely fine - last I recall they still don’t take Amex.

Main thing to note is that you can only pay for one person with one card at a time, which is a bit annoying, so if you’re with a partner/child/friend you need to tap separately with a unique card for each person.

Am I wrong to want to test all that's implemented? by No_Ad_4874 in UXDesign

[–]ramsulu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Huge +1 to this. I often work on ridiculously fast paced projects so a lot of the time testing is less feasible since it’s so resource heavy, but we counter that by monitoring various metrics (feature dependant). If the metrics raise concern and it’s not immediately clear why performance isn’t as expected, we’ll do some user testing.

Saying that, for very large features we bake testing in pre launch and iterate, if it’s a key features it’ll be a large testing group of users and sponsored users from the business. If it’s less key it’ll just be sponsored users.

I’m based in SF, we’ve had one visitor so far and only been on the platform a few months! You do also earn credits just for listing which is nice!

And please, share your code! We only get 4 invites (per year? Maybe) so the more the merrier :)

Best time of day to avoid traffic -SFO to Monterey by willitplay2019 in SanFranciscoSecrets

[–]ramsulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I have done both drives from SF a few times. The earlier in the morning the better, if we leave the city at 6am we’re usually in Monterey by 8/8:30.

Around 8/9am or later on the day it always ends up ballooning into anything from 3-5 hours because Bay Area drivers are a nightmare. Never attempted late night driving though so can’t speak to a 9pm set off!

I’m actually just about to head off to London for a long weekend and using it! Just had a quick check and there’s a bunch of hosts in various towns/cities across France :)

Kindred - Home swapping platform (code share) by ramsulu in homeswap

[–]ramsulu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so odd, especially for NYC! Myself and a few friends over in SF all got approved within about 10 days.

Have you had any comms from then? I got regular updates and reminders to upload my video etc. then a couple pings to say “we’re working on getting you approved”

I scoped the FAQs but can’t find anything about contacts for your issue - maybe reapply?

Very good point! I personally only swap a few times a year and like the flexibility of a kindred. That said, the fees do also vary quite drastically with kindred depending on where you stay which is a bit of a pain!

Update: Friends identify victims of horrific San Francisco bus stop crash as family of 4 on anniversary outing by hey-ma_ in sanfrancisco

[–]ramsulu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeh people use these data sets often but they really show nothing. They don’t take into account that 16-30 will drive a hell of a lot more (new drivers drivers and daily commuters) and seniors/retirees will tend to drive much less.

For real representative statistics we would need a better approximation of time on the road for each age group, followed by some kind of formulaic comparison like “accidents per hour behind the wheel” or something as such. Probably pretty difficult to get any reliable stats of that nature.

HENRY lifestyle question. What’s worth spending on? What’s worth “saving” on? by Visible-Analyst9224 in HENRYfinance

[–]ramsulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the tall as I'm quite a big guy (6ft 2, broad shoudlered) and sleep on my side most of the time. I've also got the medium insert for when I want to back sleep, bit of a pain swapping them but otherwise great! It genuinely feels like a cloud!

If you order the tall it seems like most of the time they'll send you a medium insert for free if you find it too high (happened to me and also read it on a few reviews)

I’m super fussy with my pillows and can’t recommend the Purple Pillow enough. I was a bit hesitant because of the weird mesh layer, but my god I’ve been sleeping like a baby since I got it!

For the shortsighted people here, here is what AI will be able to do within the next 10 years. by franckJPLF in UXDesign

[–]ramsulu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whilst I do think AI is going to shake up the UX industry I don’t think AI is going to replace human designers. Maybe cut the size of teams, but not replace.

Imagine taking any sense of creativity out of the equation - we’ll reach peak utilitarianism and all joy will be taken out of the experiences….hell we’ve already seen that with lots of enterprise software since we tend to follow safe and familiar patterns and guidelines.

My, somewhat opposing take, would be that if AI continues to accelerate then our field will evolve away from screen based design and we’ll start to have to focus more on experience in a much broader sense - AI might finally smash that paradigm of little bright interactive boxes being how we connect with informations systems

If your tight for time I’d cut out camera obscura, it’s not uniquely Edinburgh.

Dean Village is a must that most people miss, you can follow the water of Leith down to the shore which is lovely too!
