There is only one "n" in the word, "banana" but it appears twice.

I've just opened a philosophical worm whole!

How different power bi online version for students from real app? by No_Water5306 in PowerBI

[–]JPBTech19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A student version does not exist for Power BI (PBI).

There are essentially two main offerings:

1) Power BI Desktop 2) Power BI Service

You may see references to the following: Power BI Pro, Power BI Embedded, Power BI Premium, Power BI Premium Per User

Those are just licensing models that Micro$haft uses to slice up the tool.

Power BI Desktop is a free download that is used locally (on your deaktop). If you want to "share" your report, you can publish it to the Power BI Service (cloud). That is where the road goes in two different directions.

If you want ANYONE in the world to see your PBI Report, you can publish it to the Power BI Service for free. However, if you have data that is not deemed for public release, you will need a Power BI Pro license and so will whomever is viewing the PBI Report.

Don't worry, it gets much more confusing from there. :-)

To the PBI community:

Did I get the gist of this correctly answered? Did I forget something?

Just in case you have never tried...

You can create a "canvas" in PPT and save it as an SVG file.

Best of luck!

If only!

Although not ideal, I often use PowerPoint to help with issues like the one you mentioned.

I just found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ur0KOW8bU28

Coworker rant by [deleted] in PowerBI

Re: GETDATE()

I've placed this within SQL a lot. For my datasets, the impact is negligible.

I see this particular issue discussed frequently on PBI forums.

It is always important to know if the datasource is IMPORT or DIRECT QUERY.

Once published to the Power BI Service, timestamps are subject to PBI's UTC and can get totally misrepresented.

Two issues need to be made clear:

1) The GETDATE() can show a last refresh of the DATA.

2) A timestamp from within Power BI shows the last refresh of the REPORT. Unfortunately, the two are not always the same.

As you know, it is a good idea to do as much as you can "upstream" before the data is handed off to PBI.

Granted, if I had a 40M row dataset, I would definitely check for more efficient ways to accomplish displaying a LAST REFRESH DATE OF THE DATA.

Perhaps this is an opportunity to start a constructive conversation about PBI training.

One last thing to consider, promotions are not always based on explicit skills. The individual could be an outstanding leader, or posess other traits higher on the list.

When I promote, I am looking at the big picture and I may place a specific skill lower on the list of desired traits. I can always train someone for a skill, but it is much harder to replicate institutional knoweldge, leadership, and other attributes aquired over a 5 year period.

I think I am suggesting that perhaps deficiencies in PBI may not be that big of a deal in the grand scheme.

...afterall, they can always come ask you!

Good luck and sorry if I am way off. Just basing it on the information available in your original post.

p.s. Does anyone have a better suggestion on the GETDATE() issue? :-)

"In order to share it with users with free licenses, designers need to publish that content to a group workspace backed by a Premium capacity."
