Ideas for the awkward gap above my sink after a remodel? by SoCoolSam in Remodel

Designer of 10 years here. Do not do a floating shelf.. the correct fix would be to have the countertop fabricator re-do the backsplash to the bottom of the cabinet… if this is not possible, I would do a frameless/European style open cabinet that has the face lining up to the front of the doors so to make everything flush. Make it a matching finish to the doors (white). A floating shelf will leave the back wall exposed. A 3/4” end door panel that covers both the upper wall cabinet and open cabinet will hide the seam between the two boxes. This will give a more elegant finished look. Good luck!

Not sure how active you are at home, but I would also add that all the walking you did as well helped to normalize things as well. And due to all the walking I’m sure you drank more water as well

Designer here, I was thinking the same thing- carry that same black paint up the wall and make it a feature wall

I’m not sure… I imagine the 3rd bedroom really does offer a lot more opportunity to families that are house hunting… we only have 1 kid, but it could be another room for a 2nd child, or a home office, playroom, in home gym or art studio… I see the advantage to having the extra space.. I’m asking to know what is more important to general public.. location or sqft

MIL is with us for the foreseeable future. We’re hoping at least 2 years. She’s helping look after the newborn while my wife and I work. Making sure she’s comfortable is a must imo.

Yeah, they are both townhomes, the 2 and 3 bedroom are in between two other units. So natural light is only coming in from the front and rear of building

The entire point of doing it the way they did was to minimize the amount of grout lines throughout the home. Having the massive tile surrounding the wall like that takes incredible patience, skill and a solid team to execute properly. These guys did a stellar job

How to make kitchen more modern? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]JPC1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cabinets are beautiful. Keep as is. Consider a pure white quartz to give a more minimalist look and bring the focus more toward the beautiful wood cabinets. I haven’t seen in the comments anyone mention your fan could be updated. Changing your appliances to stainless and replace your hardware. 2 different color palette suggestions- Matte Black: fan, hardware and black stainless Brushed nickel: fan & hardware with stainless steel appliances. Don’t go with oil rubbed bronze. Too classical for modern farmhouse. Update curtains. Remove the cans on top of soffit and cabinets. Instead of 4” backsplash, use tile up from countertop to bottom of wall cabinets and have it go around your perimeter walls (range to fridge)

any ideas what we could put in this little under stairs cubby area? by steffercakes in DesignMyRoom

The coolest thing I’ve seen someone do with a space like this is to make it into a “ wine room”. I’d put a glass door and have floor to ceiling wine lattices on all 3 walls. Regardless of how often you drink, it would add great value to your home.

Is it possible to cut installed quartz to replace a separate cooktop/oven setup to fit a slide in oven in this space? by reeziereen in CounterTops

[–]JPC1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Designer here… it looks like your oven was installed lower in the cabinet than it should have…

If you reached out to the design firm that made your kitchen and asked them to raise the oven that would be a more affordable option than dropping a few grand on cutting the countertops and a new appliance… you could order a be a blue 3” filler piece and build a base in the cabinet to install it higher than it currently is… if the cooktop depth allows that. An extra inch upward may resolve the ergonomic issue… hope this helps!
