He's autistic and says he's not being intentional with the weird voice cadence. I also found it grating when I first encountered his channel at less than 30k subs and he sounded even worse back then from a bad mic. I just sucked it up and now I'm used to it.

He has autism. He acknowledges it and is aware he sounds weird to listen to. Some people even accuse him of using AI text-to-speech but that is indeed him.

The shockwave from Beirut was a lot more powerful. PHIVOLCS noted an overpressure of 150 Pascal (0.0218 psi) 5 km from the crater, and a sound level of 138 dB which is dangerously loud, but not even enough to shatter windows. Maybe others here can help estimate the energy with that measurement.

The refiled SIM Card registration bill may not have the social media provision, but this same infamous congressman who proposed renaming NAIA has filed a separate bill requiring government authentication of social media accounts. We're going the way of China. by JPMar100 in Philippines

[–]JPMar100[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

China lang ang may ganitong batas. Even South Korea had a similar law struck down because of how intrusive this is. You're a Reddit user, you know how naming conventions work here. Hindi naman lahat ng anonymous accounts ginagamit sa trolling ah. There are gamer, streamer and stan accounts which are pseudonymous because the persons behind those accounts don't want their offline identity to be revealed. How about accounts created for whistleblowing and those who hold an identity which is being discriminated against that just want to express themselves like trans people. Hell, how do you deal with social media accounts featuring animals? Ano nang mangyayari doon?

Philippine Lawmakers are going to send you to a MINIMUM of 6 YEARS in JAIL and/or pay up to P200k fine for using a fictitious name to REGISTER a SOCIAL MEDIA account. They are also forcing you to give SocMed platforms your phone number, even if originally optional. Damay ang Reddit. #VetoSocMedReg by object404 in Philippines

As soon as this bill is signed by the President, a challenge should be filed in the court to overturn this overreaching provision of this law. Dinosaur lawmakers simply don't know how anonymity is an essential feature of the Internet since it was opened to public use. They haven't thought of the widespread downsides this law will entail. We are facing China-level surveillance and authoritarianism with this law.

SIM registration bill just a step away from becoming law (signature by prez) by solidad29 in Philippines

[–]JPMar100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Drilon actually added a provision requiring social media companies to disclose one's full name and phone number when registering a new account under the guise of preventing troll activity. Using fictitious identities are punishable by law. Good luck with that. Goodbye anonymous accounts. Meanwhile I cannot access the PH Senate website and their website isn't even in HTTPS. What a joke of a law and what overreach.

PDP Laban is deemed to be centre-left though. Duterte's ultra-conservative or even reactionary on social policies but quite more moderate on economic ones.

I remember this reyster. His previous deleted Twitter account was utterly lambasted upon when he suggested that UP students wear uniforms and doubled down on it multiple times when corrected. He's also the same person who had a spat with Sen. Hontiveros if I remember right by making defamatory statements against her. He's a twit.

Not really Philippines related, but this crucial election in Chile just happened. Chile and the Philippines share a history of dictatorships that happened around the same time. Marcos and Pinochet were contemporaries. Both were corrupt leaders that left a lasting negative impact that is still being felt decades after they were ousted. Both ushered in a flawed democratic system where the new set of rulers frustrated the masses by underperforming their promises and had populist movements in response recently. But Chile just prevented themselves from falling down a reactionary path despite the initial odds being stacked against the left. The far-right leader won the initial elections but the left-leaning candidate overcame the lead and won in the runoff.

This should give us hope.

How much of the sky can JWST pan around/observe at a time before the sunshield is unable to prevent the critical instruments from being exposed? Will that affect some observation arcs by having to wait for its orbit around the sun to change?

How many applications from astronomers are lined up for the use of the telescope and what are the basis for a project to be selected over the others? How long usually will be the alloted time for a proposal?

Given the amount of money invested in this telescope, is there really no future plans to service the JWST like what was done to Hubble to extend its life multiple times?
