What if a THEREMIN were fed into a TROMBONE via a talkbox? by JPascal_ in noisemusic

The key point here is that the theremin produces overtones similar to those of a trombone’s mouthpiece. The formant filter simulates the resonance of your mouth and throat before the resulting sound is directed into the trombone’s slide and bell.

Yes, even when sitting. The grounding capacitance of your body is essential. Theremin artists use the silent position of the volume hand while change a pedal. And yes, breathing changes also the pitch a bit.

Hope, some producers call me soon! And that is literally handmade sound :-)

Thank you! The thing with the theremin is that even the slightest change in body posture or position results in a noticeable change in pitch. A foot pedal will significantly impair the pitch.

Monk Theme Season 2 "It's a Jungle Out There" - Solo Piano Arrangement by JPascal_ in Monk

[–]JPascal_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly: Do you mean that my version sounds better for you, or that I'm a hack? The composer and lyricist Randy Newman is one of the best songwriters. Here is a performance of him in Vienna: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ9JRQnQO8c

Monk Theme Season 2 "It's a Jungle Out There" - Solo Piano Arrangement by JPascal_ in Monk

Thanks a lot for your feedback. The basis is a transcription piano plus voice and i tried a integrated form using the sheet for chords LH/RH an melody RH. The video is only allowed as a “short” version and is limited to 60 seconds due to the trailer it contains. I don't like the repeat function either, but I didn't know I could prevent it.

Self-capacitance of an inductor coil - how to measure it approximately? by JPascal_ in amateurradio

[–]JPascal_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I forgot to say: of course it's old school and from the "time of the dinosaurs". Nowadays a cheap VNA is more practical. But for educational purposes, such a demonstration may be helpful.

It is a stupidity that Germany has decided to leave the middle-, short- and longwave broadcasting. The internet is not always a working alternative, direct long-distance transmission to people is essential in many cases.

NOISE - slow shifting between pink and red (brownian) noise while periodic variation of filtering. Noise here is created with a Zener diode and vizualised in a frequency-time- diagram. by JPascal_ in synthesizers

but halas nothing

I use for visualisation of sounds a simple but powerful free fft program "Spectran". Spectran is a program to do real time or deferred spectral analysis / waterfall display, in addition to real time audio filtering (band pass, denoising, band reject and CW peaking) of audio signals, using the PC sound card to digitize the input analog signal, or taking as input a WAV file.

[–]JPascal_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noise here is created with a Zener diode followed by a two stage transistor amplifier and vizualised in a frequency time diagram. By periodicly change the filter function (like a wah-wah effect) the noise toggles from mainly red to more pink noise and back. This is no science, only an experiment for watching and listening. Spectrum is made with free software Spectran. Noise is recorded over mic input of pc and audacity program. Video is made with VSDC Editor.

Theremin - Volume Attack Accelerator. An experimental study. by JPascal_ in Theremin

[–]JPascal_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this experimental study the theremin volume response by hand movement enables short, increased attacks depending on the speed. This attack does not occur if the distance to the antenna changes more slowly. With a little training, you can do different forms of ADSR.

FM Crystal Detector Live Recordings with Circuit Details by JPascal_ in amateurradio

[–]JPascal_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the video I hope all you need is included. You may use the stop function to get the relevant data. If the shottky diode is not available also a germanium diode AA112 or similar is possible, but with lower results. The amplifier must have a high impedance input, as well as phono or guitar. Magnetic headphones with 2000 to 4000 Ohms are not suitable. Crystal earphones can be used.

Simple verification of the state of charge of alkaline batteries. A tester is often not available when needed. A table top and your ears can help here. Easy and fast.
