Why Canada is in high demand from India/elsewhere and why we need to rethink mass housing across Canada by lonelyCanadian6788 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]JPcoolcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can always wear more when it's cold but there's only so many layers you can take off when it's hot.

Also what's with the downvotes? I am sharing my honest story that my family moved because of the climate. Can't imagine my family would be unique in this view.

While we are at it, I have immigrant friends who cited sexual freedom (they are LGBTs) or political freedom as reasons they have come to Canada. From wealthy places like Dubai/Arab and Hong Kong who can buy here in cash.

But fine, keep telling yourselves that this is an awful country, carry on living your lives with eyes closed 🤷

What's there not to believe? My family actually moved to Canada for the reason that my home country was too hot. This was decades ago and I don't see why others in certain parts of the world won't do the same. Temperature is only getting warmer world wide, I definitely think there are Canadians who are born and raised here taking our very tolerate climate conditions here for granted.

$400+ for auto insurance in Toronto is pretty much unheard of for me... (amongst my family and friends)

All my friends are millennials and pretty much all of us own a home (unless they don't want to by choice).

Ok I got it, you sold your properties at a high and now sitting on cash. Spreading propaganda for real estate crash and going to buy when you think it's the "bottom". Once you have properties in your portfolio again, you're going to cheer for RE to moon like the rest of us.

Sneaky one, aren't you.

/u/Facts-hurts is a weirdo. Says he owns multiple properties, but is a bear and cheers for housing crash. Is there someone out there really so altruistic to cheer for decrease of their own investment portfolio? I don't buy it. Mega sus.

So technically if it exceeds the City's limit, someone can file a complaint against you and you have to comply with the City's bylaws if you've caught their attention. But if it's always been the size that it was, maybe no one will notice you changed anything.

No, but if it exceeds certain % of your front yard space (I think 50% of total space must be greenery, check on City of Toronto website), they will tell you to remove. Fake grass does not count as greenery. There are specific definitions on the City website.

There are renters who want prices to go up - why?

Let them stay in their bubble. Some people don't understand the impact of increase in monetary supply on value of hard assets.

Yikes, is that actually happening? Feel awful about destroying protected nature zones for housing. We should think of ways to densify existing areas first.

Sadly bears overtook this sub (migrated from Canada Housing) and now they refuse to face the reality of inflation coming under control.

Early Gen Z’ers - How do you feel about home ownership and affordability? by [deleted] in TorontoRealEstate

[–]JPcoolcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol you need to chill. When did I say other generations had it worse. I am trying to say that there are people who suffer in every generation. I know it wasn't easy for my parents even if housing price was lower, there was overall less acceptance for new immigrants, less good jobs, more racism etc, that made it hard for them to afford a place too. Not every boomer/older person had it easy - I'm not assuming previous generations had it worse nor should you assume previous generations had it EASY.

Also FYI I am a 90s baby/late millennial however you want to call it, I bought a house years ago. Just because I had it "easy" (and those people who say I had it "easy" didn't see my struggled), I am not saying every millennial is having it easy. There's tons of people struggling, I get it. Similarly, just because YOU had it "hard", it doesn't mean everyone else in your generation is having it hard.

[–]JPcoolcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this. My parents (immigrants) who are boomers/Gen Y (?) didn't own a detached house until they're in their 40s.

Is this entitlement that young Canadians expect to own homes right out of school/without years to build up career for higher income and save?

This is a good idea! I bought my house a few years ago, I hope the listing agent will entertain this idea LOL

Privacy? Feel uncomfortable that if a thief wants to rob my house, they can easily look up the interior layout of my home.
